I hope he does slide. Man, if we could slide down from say 8 to 15 and grab Coples or Mercilus and then trade back in to like 20-22 range and grab Tannehill...best draft in a very long time. Id be thoroughly impressed with JI's draft manipulation. Not sure Tannehill slides enough to make that happen

I have never felt Tannehill is worthy of a first round selection and I don't see him ever being a quality starter in the NFL. Of course Sherman may feel differently and if he does, I suspect the Dolphins will draft him in the first round. Yet it would not surprise me in the least if Tannehill is not drafted by the Dolphins or the Browns at 22 and he slips completely out of the first round.

In a perfect world, Miami would trade down into the teens and STILL grab Tannehill (and he goes on to be a stud QB of course).

I could be wrong, but I don't think most GMs will put much stock in whether Ireland passes on or picks a player based on his past valuation of the QB position.

In a perfect world Miami would grab Tanny at 8 if he's the player they want. Letting it ride is insane with the most important position. The draft is a gamble, because of all the variables. Why add one more variable when trying to nab your guy by hoping someone doesn't take him after you could have?MAFishFan likes this. -
So basically, we've heard every single scenario possible for Tannehill. One of them will be right.

Well, my perfect world is MORE perfect than your version. I'd love to trade down, get another pick or two, and still get Tannehill. I will agree that if they view him as a Franchise QB you get him at #8. If they were totally CONVINCED he is a Franchise QB? Then you trade up to #3 and take him. There would be screams of protest, but if you are convinced, why gamble, right? -
Hard to imagine him passing the Browns at 22, draft day cant get here soon enough.
-
It all boils down to whether they want an immediate impact type player who can start right away or do they want a quarterback who will take time to develop.
I believe Ireland's decision will be based on what Sherman and Philbin's opinion on Tannehill are. -
-
This sounds like a team is trying to get Tannehill to slide. I don't think I've ever smelt a bigger smokescreen.
-
I agree though that draft day can't get here soon enough, so we can all see exactly what the GM's in the NFL really think of Tannehill and all the other players in this draft. -

If we don't take him at 8, I see him sliding. Not because Miami, and his own former coach didn't take him, but because then he's actually going to be drafted where he belongs IMO.
Personally Im thinking we should trade down, pick up an extra pick, then draft Weeden. If we can't trade down, take someone like Cox, maybe Floyd... just some kind of help for the pass rush opposite Wake, and we need another potential #1 WR, then hope to get Weeden later.
I really think with Moore and Garrard being here, we're not going to draft a QB early. I'd be shocked if we do. -
-
BTW, I'd be very happy if we got Blackmon at #8 and then traded back up into the late first for Weeden. In that scenario, the Browns get Tannehill at #22. The draft can't get here soon enough though.... -
Yeah easily. KC and Seattle will both pass on him. He will slide into the 20's. Someone will trade up for him if not he possibly goes to the Browns 2nd pick.
-
If we don't take Tannehill at #8, and KC passes on him at #11, falling to the 20's is really almost a certainty. Just look at each team between KC and Cleveland picking again at #22. How many are in the need of a starting QB (above all other needs)?
As far as Cleveland goes, if they don't take Richardson at #4, Blackmon is the other obvious choice for them. So, Tannehill will be there at #8 IMHO.
Either Tannehill or Weeden slips into the second IMHO. -

Philly has other needs, so drafting a QB prospect for a couple years down the road vs. getting an immediate impact player that potentially helps them get into the playoffs and a shot at the SB this year is really more of a luxury than a need.
JMHO. -
Frankly I think it's about draft picks. A drop into the mid-teens would make sense. I'd evaluate Tannehill to be on the same level as a Jake Locker. If Miami can snag a 3rd and perhaps a 4th out of moving down they may very well do so and then move up on the other end to draft a DE. All indications to me suggest Miami is trying to convince teams that may want Ryan that they're crazy about taking him, I'm not sure about that. The whole played for so and so many years experience factor is critical. Ponder, Locker, Henne, and all the guys they've looked at played quite a few years. Is Ryan mobile, yes.
If they skip on him at 8, it's a big indication. I'm not convinced they like any of these guys. -
A couple of guys who slid were Dan Marino and Aaron Rogers .Not bad company. It just goes to prove that its not an exact science and that the experts, gurus and pundits are not always right. If Ireland passes on Tanny and he becomes a success it will reflect on Ireland and his coaches in a negative way
-
I see weeden going before tannehill to a team with a coach that needs to win now. Tannehill is going to end up getting drafted by a team that already has a good qb and sit on the bench for a few years like Aaron rodgers did or get traded like kolb.
-
Qb prospects are generally overdrafted to begin with as that is the perceived need so I doubt Tannehill slides out of the Top 10.
I'm of the view that running back and generally upgrading the skill positions talent on the offense can be more effective then overdrafting a Qb and hoping for the best. -
