Well we've kept a vet wr on the team who doesn't catch any footballs, they'll probably keep a kicker who can't kick field goals.
-
Agreed.
That loss is on him.....and Sherman's idiotic play calling.
Both bush league. -
Agreed

You can't not trust your kicker. I'm sorry. He needs to go. Unacceptable from him. I have no patience for missed field goals. let's not forget he was doing this in the preseason too.

Shoulda been shown the door with that bum Sparano.

If I weren't so pissed I'd laugh at that joke. Carpenter,.... un****ingbelievable.
-
He's been on a steady decline in the last couple of years. Sorry, Goldilocks but FU.
-
lol at this thread. Carpenter is absolutely the goat today but let's not pretend he hasn't been very good his entire career here. This is the first time I think he's ever missed a big kick.

Of course if we just run the ball instead of trying to force feed Hartline in the endzone we might of got a little closer for Carpenter.

Name one other instance, because I sure can't think of one.

Kickers are streaky. They'll have unbelievable seasons followed up by flops. Happens all the time. Very rare to find a guy who does it year in and out. It's not like we're going anywhere. Plenty of time to see how he rebounds.

Can't cut Carpenter. There is nothing out there better than him. It has been awhile since he's made a meaningful kick--2009 maybe?
I think you bring kickers in for some "competition", but that's it. -
A lot of fault lies with Carpenter but everyone has off days. If he continues to suck then yes, have this discussion.

I can't believe this forum is actually yearning for Sparano style playcalling.Bpk, Sceeto, Ohio Fanatic and 1 other person like this.

Exactly, maybe Tannehill's pick six for example?

Blow for Baer.

As far as playcalling goes, fans are always yearning for the style they don't have. If we had run the ball in the 4th quarter and lost, it'd be all "why didn't we open up and try to put them away?"
That said, I'm pretty confident Sparano style would have won us this game. In many games, I prefer a more aggressive and open style. This was a game where all you had to do was pound it home and eat cloak.dont fumble likes this. -
The other game in which I remember him struggling late was the Buffalo game in 2010. Any others??
-
Last few seasons have been subpar.

this lost might be my fault. my superstitious underwear were washed. I was looking forward to posting about washing supertitious clothes being a myth, but it must be true.

This loss is on the kicker, but you can't cut him after one bad game. You can put him on notice though...

No knee-jerk reaction from me. I have not been impressed with Carpenter for at least 3 seasons now (counting this season) He is not good under pressure. I will say his leg strength has improved some because that was another knock I had about him too but that has improved. I did bring this topic up in preseason as well. While there were certainly bigger holes that needed to be filled his postion is one that we could use an upgrade at. This is just another example of it. Yes the play calling could of been better but he should of made his kicks.

Honestly, if Philbin loses confidence in Carpenter then he absolutely has to go. There's no other option. If you can't trust your kicker, it affects how you call the rest of the game, and not in a positive way.
