There's no guarantee of that. Holdouts come from very high picks, we're drafting in the middle of the round. Besides, not drafting player because they might hold out is idiotic.

I know exactly who his agent is. So you think that just because Crabtree held out, with some justification from his point of view, that we shouldn't draft Bryant? Hell, Bryant missed a lot of action and he still had a very good season for the time he played. Bryant is universally regarded as being a much better talent. You don't pass up on that. Ever.

 

I will forever argue that if we are planning on spending our #1 pick on Dez Bryant, we should spend that 1st rounder on Brandon Marshall.

I'd rather go defense in the 1st and take Demaryius Thomas in the 2nd. He could be as good as Bryant in the long run.

That is a risky pick up as well though. He hasn't been an angel in Denver by any means. You put him down in south beach year round you may be asking for more trouble. Not to mention the trouble he was causing within the organization. I would just be guessing here but I'm going to be Tony is much more of a no nonsince guy that Josh McDaniels is. Not to mention he is older.

On the flip side of that arguement you know that you are getting a proven talent in the NFL. They guy had a good year with a below average QB tossing him the rock. He is a talent that can take over a game and I really think we need that talent against the teams like the Jets that have great corners.

The problem is that there is that chance that Dez could be better than Brandon can ever be. Because he does have a ton of talent as well.

 

What I was saying is that Crabtree was right, the Raiders should haven taken him over DHB. That said, he was taken where he was taken and he should've accepted that. I think his agent's learned a lesson about how the NFL works, though.

 

Everyone always blames the agent and not the player during a holdout. This is stupid and it assumes that the player is some idiot who can't think for himself and is weak-minded.

The agent gives the player advice and counsel, but at the end of the day, it's the player's decision. It's insulting when people insinuate that these evil agents are manipulating the athletes.

 

To be absolutely honest, I don't believe there is any chance that Dez is going to be better then Marshall. Marshall is widely regarded as the best route runner in the NFL. He is by no doubt a Top 5 WR in the league today. I believe Dez can be very good, but the chances of him being better then Marshall are slim at best especially looking at draft history. Every WR drafted this high is given the same type of billing, and they certainly do not all pan out.

WR's need a couple years in the NFL to produce,Marshall is already developed. He is automatic production.

Yes there is a chance that Marshall comes to south beach and goes absolutely mental, and gets himself suspended/expelled/executed by the league. We also have to put in the fact that Bryant’s character is also being scutinized, especially his work ethic. Marshall is described as a very hard worker.
However, given the odds of Marshall going off the deep end or Dez Bryant not panning out for whatever reason, I highly weigh myself towards Marshall.

Of course this all weighs on the fact that the FO actually is looking to take a WR at #12. If Bryant (or any WR) isn't even on their minds (a real possibility) all this logic goes out the window. This is most likely the true case.

 

Someone posted a list of all the first rounders who had Parker as an agent in recent years and the number of those 1st rounders who were holdouts. I do not recall the names, but there was an inordinately high pct of them who did. We can say, it is not the agent's doing, but why then do so many Parker clients hold out? Coincidence?

 

It's an acknowledged problem in the NFL and FO of various teams that agents do take advantage of their clients to get the maximum cash for themselves. Why do you think the NFL's biggest point for a new CBA is a slotted system for draft picks?

 

I agree with the latter sentence, but I have never heard/seen, not once by anyone (even Bronco fans), state the former.

This is absolute rubbish. When you have slot receivers playing as flankers and flankers playing as wide receivers, your offense isn't going to work. And it didn't, really, because it allowed the opposing team's safeties to stay in and work on our tight ends. So, not having a true #1 can and did severely effect our passing game and make us one dimensional for most of the season. That makes getting a #1 a must have, because just another body on the Fins' WR corp isn't going to do the job.

Nolan can scheme around not having ideal OLB, although I don't doubt it'll be addressed with a couple picks, but there are so many hybrid guys it isn't worth a first round pick (and there are none worth spending the #12 on, anyway). Then you have NT, which doesn't have to be addressed in the first round, at least in this draft. FS is the only position that can arguably be said to be of equal merit to drafting Bryant and only then if the best two safeties in this draft are even available.

No, I don't watch any games but Dolphins game. I fail to see what your point is, though, because they have a good defense and a very good offense.

 

I'm only cool with taking Marshall if there's a lot of performance incentives and practice incentives in his contract. Make him piss away his money if he's going to be a prima donna. Nothing motivates a guy more than realizing he's going to lose a ton of money if he doesn't step up.

The other thing too is that he's no doubt going to want a pay day. Whereas we can probably get off cheap on Bryant.

That and I think if we get Bryant in here, and break him, he will be much easier than trying to break an already wild Marshall. Less drama, less attitude.

 

I agree that we need to fix the defensive problems, but we've already addressed one key area, and are hopefully in the process of addressing another at Safety (Since we've already released ours).

Our CBs will have another year to grow, and with Will Allen back, we've got some more assurance there too.

All in all our defense, just from those 3 things will be much better (assuming they don't flop on the FS).

Devoting an entire FA and draft to one side of the ball won't get us to a championship unfortunately.

That's bull****, too. I should think it would be obviously so, since if most draft picks didn't pan out nobody would have a team worth fielding. If you meant to say most first round draft picks don't pan out, I would counter with saying that's because GMs often don't have the same priorities as the coaching staff and draft how they think the team should be rather than fitting players into a coach's system. That's not a problem with the Fins.

And seriously, why all the worry about Bryant's work ethic or attitude? Do you guys remember who our coach is and what his reputation is? We don't have problems with rookies, plain and simple, because our coaching staff is up front about their expectations and what'll happen if a rookie ****s up.

 

Not to mention an ineffective offense hurts our defense. If we have the same ineffective WR corps, we'll have more 3 and outs, and our defense will be suckin wind.

 

Yeah another internet know it all! You do realize that the average NFL career is 3.7 years? By pan out he went on to say make an impact and the draft is a crap shoot. You just don't know if any of them can play at the NFL level. Fact is out of every draft class teams average 1 immediate starter, and 2 potential starters, only 1 of them become elite. Why is everyone concerned about Dez? Well because he got suspended for lying to NCAA investigators. It wasn't that he lied once it was that after he was told several times we know what you did just tell us, he continued to lie. Then you have several sources that if you draft Dez you better hire someone to get him there on time. Several sources report Dez was consistently late to everything practice, meetings, workouts, trainers, and even game day. 2009 was suppose to be the year Dez rose above his critics for his behavior and drops instead he was suspended. If he had not lied he would have been suspended 1-3 games not a year.

Dez is a great talent! But there are serious question marks around his behavior and maturity. He may rise above them, or he may go down the road of Pacman. Most would agree handing a immature 22yr old 15 million dollars is not generally a recipe for maturity.

Out of the 224 players that came out of the draft 5 years ago (2005), can you name 113 that are still playing successfully in the NFL? If not, then the majority of players do not pan out.

I know it's a ridiculous task, but I'm just trying to put numbers to it it so it's easier to see.

 

I'm with JT .... if we are going to go WR in rd 1, then Marshall is the more prudent move -without a doubt.

I still believe we go defense, as well as move down from #12.

The only thing I worry about is the pay day Marshall would be looking to get. I mean what happens if we've got the same attitude problems here, and a guy on the hook for a huge multi-million dollar contract? I mean sure the boy can play but attitude can bring down the play of everyone else on the team. And for a team that over the last two years has relied more on teamwork than skill, that scares me.

Uncapped year or not, spending money without regard is just not good business.

I can see your point bro....but were is the sack from Sporano, and Parcells, the guy is IMO top 3 right now at 26 (I would put AJ, and Fitz in front thats it)...imagine in another 3 years what he will be like?? Also consider he is 26, he isnt 22 anymore, at some point he has to grow up, and 26, 27 is the time when if it does happen, it will....we havent spent like bastards, just one contract to Dansby, Clark got 17 over 4 years, even if they did sign him to something like that, its a market contract....

Lastly when the Pats got Corey Dillion, he was just like Marshall, they got him, hooked him up with crazy responsibilities, and they won a championship with him being a alter boy the whole way....do you think Bill Bellichic is saying "I'm not getting BM because he will cause problems".....hardly..
