Anyone who has heard Peyton talk the last few days knows that this dude is not happy about talking shop about the colts drafting Luck..He no'nos likey..and is going to demand to be traded it would seeM..He also seems very determined to come back and play..
Would be nice for us to get a prospect, and make a bid for that dude eh?
I hear he likes it down here, nice change from that city he spent his entire career in..
PEEEEEYTON, COME OUT AND PLAYYYYYEEEEE!!!!

Called this in a thread the other day, you could see it coming. -
It would be a huge risk at this point.

Heard on the radio today that Luck and Manning have formed a nice relationship, but no way they'll be teammates. I believe that came from Luck's father.*
With that said, isn't Manning's contract impossible to trade for? I rather just draft my own franchise QB and see if Moore can build on what he's done here.
*After seeing NJ's link, maybe it was Archie who said that, not Luck's dad. -
A healthy Peyton Manning makes us a relevant team for about two maybe three years. I am more on the side of us building a dynasty and I think that starts with a young franchise QB in place. However... If we miss out on Luck, Barkley, and Griffin (which looks like a posibility) I would only settle for Landry Jones if a Peyton Manning was in place to "groom" him for the next two years.
I am willing to throw in all cards for Robert Griffin. I think he is going to be awesome in the NFL and I hope we get to draft him. Barkley would be great as well. Hell no to Landry Jones or Brandon Weeden...I'd rather sign Manning and draft Jordan Rodgers the following year. -
PS
Archie has spoken

Ross needs to fill seats and this would do it. He could forego canning TS if they made this move.
-
The heck with that. The last thing we need is another broken down QB to come in here. Until shown otherwise Peyton is done. Draft a Qb in the first. Even if Peyton gets healthy he has what, 3 years left in him. I want a long term solution, not another stop gap halfhearted shot in the dark.

This is a move that will blow up in the face of the Dolphins. Does anyone really think that Indianapolis would come close to getting rid of Peyton Manning if there were no doubts about his ability to come back from this neck problem? Buyer beware! Franchise quarterbacks that aren't damaged goods do not hit the free market. Peyton will not be traded unless Indy can truly hoodwink someone, because no one is going to pick up that $28 million tab. If Manning goes, he will be released and free to sign with any team. Again though, why would Indy release Peyton Manning if they are getting good reports from the neurosurgeons who have been evaluating Peyton through this process. Do not forget that it was a bulging disk with a pinched nerve that ultimately ended Dan Marino's career.
-
It all depends on his neck.
Its a risk I am not willing to take, no more stopgaps. WE MUST do what it takes to draft a QB in round 1.The Rev likes this. -

If Peyton Manning hits the open market (which I think he will), the Miami Dolphins better explore that avenue. This doesn't mean that they cannot draft a quarterback in the first round by any means. I don't foresee Manning and Luck on the same team... either the Colts will trade down and pay Manning that $28M bonus in March or they'll take Luck and release Manning in March.djphinfan likes this. -

Not comfortable giving anymore than a 3rd for him, even then it might be too generous. Plus a renegotiated contract. Fact is he is on the downslide...

I don't think I buy Peyton as any sort of decent mentor. Look at the job he did on Painter.
Tin Indian and electrolyte like this. -
The way I see it.
Indy has two options; luck or peyton. ( NO ANDS N NO BUTS)
Of course I'd rather have Andy luck. -
-
If Manning is anywhere but Indianapolis in 2012 it'll be because he signed with that team as a free agent. No one will be trading for Peyton Manning and his massive contract.
-
Anyone really think they won't keep Manning's legacy intact? -
The phenomenon of veteran players tutoring rookies or new guys is vastly overstated by the media and fans anyway. Veterans aren’t going to teach the new guy how to replace them.mbsinmisc likes this. -

Not that this makes anything official of course but Tony Dungy was on ESPN radio today and said he did not feel Peyton would be traded , that he didn't feel Peyton would want to play for another team and also said he felt you take Luck if you have him rated as high as the consensus to date has been.
Something has to give. -
With this high of a draft pick, and the collection of skillsets that seem to be coming out, I would find my own..
The thing is Stitch, I don't believe we will have to trade for Manning..Aquafin likes this. -
The thought of relying on the Fins' crack medical staff to accurately evaluate Peyton post fusion is too scary to contemplate.

Eh, I'd take the shot, we'd still have MMoore behind him if he went down, if he is healthy then we have as good a Qb as there is in the NFL.
As for the 28 million, one would have to think his new team would not have to eat that sort of cap hit, that would be the exchange for taking a chance on him. -

This year's QB class appears to be one of the better one. If we can wangle a first rounder this year, we need to do it NOW and forget about quick fixes.FinSane likes this. -
Anyone hear papa Mannings coments regarding drafting luck. It was something along the lines of....."I dont think the Colts drafting Luck would create a successful, beneficial dynamic for either QB." What? He is the voice of reason???:knucks:

..and to everyone who says sarcastically, "As if it taking a QB in the first round is a guarantee of success", I'd much rather take a gamble with a young QB in the first round with a high risk of bust than QB over 35 with a pinched nerve and bulged disk in his shoulder. Even if he was a healthy, I still don't want yet another caretaker QB unless it was because our rookie wasn't ready to start. Even then, I'd rather just keep Moore for another year. -
All I am going to say is Yes. I'll let my avatar say the rest.

1) how healthy is he really ??
2) Even if he's healthy come next August, can he stay that way ??
3) How much would we have to give up for him ?? 2 #1's and a #2 ??
4) Would that compensation be too much based on the other holes this team has (S, OLB, OL, TE, WR) ??
5) How would Manning assimilate into this O or how much would we have to change our O to accommodate Manning (the more likely option) and what effect would that have on our development next season ??
6) Who will be running the franchise ?? Sparano and Ireland ?? Are they good fits with Manning ?? Cowher ?? Fisher ?? Pagano ?? Reid ?? Rob Ryan ?? All that would have to be accounted for with acquiring Manning.
7) Are the Colts going to let Manning go ??
I like the idea of Manning coming this way, but there are some serious adjustments that have to be made if he does... -
If...if, if if. If a frog had wings it wouldn't bump its *** when it hopped. Now with the sarcasm set aside....
If the doctors give Manning a clean bill of health, GENUINELY clean bill of health....
If Bob Irsay puts Manning on the market...
If we draft a first round QB to be mentored by Manning...
Then yes, I say do it. I don't think anyone here would argue that a good quality first round QB riding shotgun to the great Peyton Manning for a couple of three years wouldn't be a dream of alifetime learning experience. I don't think anyone here would say Aaron Rodgers didn't learn a thing or two from Brett Favre in Green Bay...and thus far, that's worked out pretty good for the Packers.
On a side note....seeing how well Moore's been playing, I wonder, from the viewpoint of Captain Hindsight and his sidekicks Could'a Should'a and Would'a, how would Moore's play be right now had he ridden shotgun to Chad Pennington instead of Chad Henne? Hmmmmmm
