It is early...
But I think we all agree that our offense especially the playmakers SHOULD be superior to the Def in the end. But in most of these reports these DB's are balling day in and day out.
We just heard the DB's have 6 INT returns for TD's already, then this.

Couldn't be happier that our young Corners are strong out of the gate, because we need them to emerge as we know what we have in Landry/Parker (sorta) and Stills.
But it's humn nature to monitor this and see if the offense starts to take advantage of these young guy's....assuming they can.

This time of year the defense is always ahead of the offense. It is encouraging though.

Yup, the defense has been ahead of the offense every season lately. That's because they just have to react...the offense has to run with precision.

Look. Tanehill's main competition until week one is our defense. We need them to be as good as possible to cause him to continue to grow. It's competition and every single person on the roster is a competitor. They want to shine. The O will pull ahead but the D is going to pressure them. We need all facets to be at their best when the season starts so I hope they all make life tough on each other.
-
never sure which is better. You just hope to see playmaking on both ends

Doesn't concern me at this point. I mean, it's the first round of OTA's. Defense is typically ahead at this point. If we were like, week 2 or so of preseason, then I'd be concerned. Most of the INT's and pick 6's we read about last week were from Moore and Fales if I remember correctly, sounds like Tanny tossed one here too now though. Hey, whatever, it's early (and that's an understatement), but I think I'm more excited about the fact that our DB's are being aggressive and making plays like this at this point than I am concerned about the offense. Especially given the fact our OL isn't exactly in top form right now based on talent and availability. It sounds like this should be a lesson for the WR's to be more aggressive, but at the same time, it could be some terrible throws from our QB stable. Fact is, nobody really knows because we can't see it. To me, as I said I'm just happy to see and hear that it sounds like the DB's are ramping up the competition out there. That's a good thing, that's how teams get better.

Maybe they can at least get into pre-season before you start proclaiming the offense as a bust and asking for excuses for bad play. hahaTwo Tacos, Rocky Raccoon, jdallen1222 and 3 others like this. -
Isn't there a saying that the defense is always ahead of the offense in the OTAs/TC?
They are in underwear for crying out loud.jdallen1222, Tin Indian, resnor and 1 other person like this. -
I'm not worried at this point, but I would have expected more from the passing O with all the work that was put in this offseason, and how everyone showed up to RT's organized practices.dolphin25 likes this. -
Not only that but defense by design is reactive which means they are better suited to defending against rusty and learning offenses. The reactive part of the offense can only come after pads and hitting. Until then, the defense knows the plays and has all the other advantages. -

All offensive line vs defensive line is useless without pads. Not even worth commenting on, except how their technique looks.Fin D likes this. -
The DC is new, even if he is running an extremely similar D, he is different, and he has to get adjusted to being the DC, we have no idea if he can handle it.
Then we have a couple guys coming off injury, with Reshad not having played since early last year, and I'm really not worried about any of it, lol, it's all fairly run of the mill NFL stuff, but there is new and rusty in there.
The passing O however, has already been working together this offseason, and the only new guys are the 2 TEs, they should have a leg up you would think.dolphin25 likes this. -
The new DC isn't going to be tested by OTAs. -
Having said that, I'm loving the reviews of Harris, McMillan, and Tankersly...at least they don't seem lost or out of shape. Asiata...a very tiny bit concerned!Fin D likes this. -
Much Ado... Our beefed up attacking defense has been on display while the guys are in shirts and shorts, and from all accounts playing musical chairs on the interior of the OL with Ted Larsen, Eric Smith, Bushrod, Jesse Davis, and some other OL bodies.
Good news is that Charles Harris has been displaying why we took him with our first pick, Jordan Phillips was praised him for his improved consistency in effort and play and we have a much improved CB and Safety corp.
Gase has also been retraining the WRs on sideline and EZ play to stay on their feet and not jump for balls needlessly as it's too easy for DBs to push them OOB.
Not sure why some seem to be trying to paint this a failure of the Offense or WRs... DBs bark and talk cause that's what they do. Wait for the pads in July before trying to make hay out of practice performances.resnor and LI phinfan like this. -

Let's just keep in mind our plays are likely the most basic we run at this time of year. Also they will be repeated time and time again. its just about basics, etc.
Let's not go too crazy at the moment. It just became June, and I'll say it again - June.
Everyone come back inside from the ledge please. -

Maybe because no one is calling it a failure by the offense...
Man, some people around here really struggle with non basic conversations. The point was that we have much much more youth and inexperience on the defensive side of the ball and thus far it was encouraging to hear how well they were doing.
-Everyone knows they are in shorts
-Everyone knows the defense was bad last year so gee, maybe let's discuss our young additions
-Oh, its June? Wow...you guy's are breaking serious ground around here
We have one side of the ball with proven playmakers and the other side with young unproven front 7 players. The battle should be monitored all through camp, and not one conclusion was made that they are "better" than the offense.
It's a talking point, destroyed by cliche playground comments and a truck full of hyperbole per usual. -
Well, when the thread title says "good sign or no," you probably should expect pushback from people saying, "It's June, and they're in shorts."
