dolfan7171New MemberOPSoliai and the Dolphins have talked about a contract extension this season, but are “very far apart,” according to a person with knowledge of the negotiations.
Soliai doesn’t expect a long-term deal, especially with CBA talks between the owners and players’ union clouding the league’s future, but wants to earn somewhere in the neighborhood of $2.5 million next season when you add up his base salary, signing bonus and other bonuses.
But the Dolphins are offering far below that number, reluctant to give Soliai much more than $1 million total. Soliai is currently making $550,000 this year as he plays out the four-year contract he signed as a rookie. Soliai wants to stay in Miami, but he’s willing to test the free agent market if he does not receive a suitable offer from the Dolphins.
The CBA negotiations are making life difficult for Soliai and many players looking to strike a new deal, because Soliai does not know if he will be a restricted free agent next summer, or an unrestricted free agent under the terms of a new CBA

Agreed however I dont think he goes for it....
I believe this and Wake will get done...Miami is well aware not not letting go young talent, especially Line play...

LayfieldNew MemberJust pay the man. I mean is 2.5m really that much for a starting nose tackle? Plus if they don't resign him and end up getting a replacement they'll prolly way overpay for someone who never sees the field as they have a history of doing.

Da 'FinsmoderatorAgreed, $2.5 million for a NT is not big $$. We certainly don't want an Albert Haynesworth situation and one never knows how stable a guy is even though Soliai is having a great season. But, I'd pay him that much and try to make some of it incentive based. He seems to be a player that needs some degree of fear motivation. And, I definitely agree about the weight clause. He just can't be ballooning up and still be effective.
Tin Indianforum_veteranSoliai is just starting to come into his own. I don't think that 2.5 mil in this day and age is too much for a starting NT. I do think some of it would have to be contigent on conditioning.
