Digitimes is fairly reliable, but they're going with this as a rumor, so you should too.
If PS4 production begins in December, then it would likely be out a few months later, and would probably be preceded by an announcement and unveiling at TGS Autumn. This does jive with Sony's history: the PS2 came out March 4, 2000 in Japan and October 26, 2000 in North America. The PS3 had more of a worldwide release in November 2006, however. But if they really plan to ship 20 million units in one year, they need to get it out in every region as early as possible.
And don't forget, Sony may be using off the shelf components, which would result in a cheaper console. Maybe a $300 launch price?

Everytime I fall in love with a playstation, a new one comes out and steals my heart................same with my iphone.

I'm really not buying it at this point, but if they could somehow merge the kinect idea with the move peripherals they could make some sweet stuff I'm sure (and it'd be a lot more accurate than just one or the other).

I think this is a year too early, though. -
I agree a year too early (at least). That's why I don't buy "a". :P

Well I think getting the jump on Sony really helped the 360 establish itself. Maybe Sony is hoping to get the jump on Microsoft this go-around.
-
If it's in the neighborhood of $300 I'll buy it the day it comes out. If it is over $400 I'll wait for the price drop.
-
I would have to blown away by it before even considering buying it within a year of its release

I'm extremely satisfied with the current gen... not going to be looking at upgrading at launch this time around personally.
-
Wait, they could do that with a decent update. The current web browser just SUCKS.
I don't game a whole lot right now either. I guess I'm waiting for some new game releases. The PS3 is a great media pig though. Hooked up to an external hard drive it's gold. -
What would be nice is if they allowed third parties to write PS3 apps and distributed those through the PS Store. I'm sure someone would post up a good Webkit-based browser ASAFP. -
