I went Direc TV because it is the only way I could see Dolphins games. I had DirecTV when they first came out with NFL Sunday ticket but left them in 2002 so I could get broadband internet. When Comcast moved NFL Network it also happened to be the same time I could get Verizon DSL so I got Direc TV HD and NFL Sunday Ticket again. :up:

 

If you want to watch the Dolphins, DirecTV is your only choice. We all know they probably won't be shown on the regional markets.

HD Sunday Ticket is expensive, but freakin' awesome.

 

I have Direct Tv fo rthe NFL package as well. Comcast has been the only cable provider out here in Northern California and I hate their DVR box and remote. Also, I find better more HD channels with Directv.

Not sure on price in your area, but I think it was pretty much a wash for me and my package as well so directv was the way to go for me.

 

Directv is the leader in HD and if you can get DSL, cable shouldn't be an option. The only reason for what you are wanting that I would pick cable would be if I couldn't get DSL or Fios. Directv seems like the best choice to me.

 

When I signed up DirecTV gave me Verizon DSL first month free & all equipment free, 19.99 for 6 months then 30.00 after that

 

Direct TV unless you go to the Sports bar like myself. Cable will give you a great deal when u combine with Internet.

I have Time Warner Cable, it is the devil. There are no other alternatives around except satellite, which I didn't sign up with because I am only living here short term. As soon as I move to my next place I am getting directTV.

 

Hopefully you get that place before opening day.

 

I've had Direct TV since the day they came out with Sunday Ticket. Before that I had a huge 12' dish in my backyard with multiple receivers and "billing addresses" if you know what I mean :-) I have to see the Dolphins every game and currently that is the only thing that assures me of that (unless of course they come out here and are playing the raiders or 49ers and it is blacked out but then I'd be at the game anyways). I don't know how the whole DTV internet access stuff works but bottom line is Dolphins Game every Sunday and this year CBS is supposed to have ALL games broadcast in HD!

 

IMO Cable is WAY better than DTV, but if you want to watch fins games you have no choice. I settled for Fios internet and phone with DTV as my TV solely for Sunday Ticket

 

If you're dead set on a bundle deal, go with Comcast's Triple Play offering. Be warned, though: Comcast's customer support is one of the worst experiences you will ever go through. Also note that while Comcast's cable speeds aren't bad (their upper tiers are faster than AT&T's top tier DSL offerings) they have far less HD programming than DirecTV.

You guys recommending Verizon FiOS need to go away; Verizon doesn't offer it in South Florida. (Or if they do, it hasn't yet made its way to my house and probably never will unless AT&T stops cheaping out and lays fiber.)

The biggest problem you're going to encounter is Internet speed. AT&T's still running copper wire, so their speeds max out at about 6Mbps--but they have the balls to charge $40 for it. Comcast's speeds are a bit higher, but it's Comcast; they should give you a free box of Preparation H every time you call customer support. You'll need it.

Of course, if you don't need lightning-fast internet, DSL is fine. And AT&T's offering rock solid reliable.

 

Actually, they will blackout the Braves games even if you have the sports package. I thought I had that loophole as well for getting FSWest for Dodgers games. No go. :sad:

 

You could get the package, I don't know ho wmuch it is. I didn't get it because I knew I would be a zombie each and every night watching the Dodgers blow it and get nothing else done.

 

if you love football, its a no-brainer. i just got hooked up with a new dish and hi-def dvr receiver. every time i have an issue, the company does take care of me. they give me credits and new equipment all the time. and theres mucho hi-def channels now too, and more on the way. good things.

 

If it's Braves games you want, MLB.tv is the solution. (And if you hook a PC up to your TV and stream the highest-resolution version of the game, it'll ALMOST be like a TV broadcast.)

 

Not to mention that Cable Internet is MUCH faster than DSL :up:

 

Depends on which tier he gets, if any. 8Mbps isn't THAT much faster than AT&T's max 6Mbps, but that 12Mbps package isn't bad.

I'm curious as to how often service gets "blown out" w/ the horrible weather conditions.

 

I don't know who you have, but my cable gives me no incentive to have both.

 

Can't help you with how often you get service interruption in Florida, but I think DTV does a pretty fair job of avoiding service interruption with foul weather. It takes a heck of a thunderstorm to disrupt service, and even then, it's usually quite brief. Snow or rain by itself doesn't do it; it takes a good, strong thunderstorm.

Personally, I think the only reason to get DTV is the NFL Sunday Ticket. Other than that, I think digital cable is far superior.

 

Yea I have Time Warner. I pay like $40 for each plus $5 for DVR (free HD, but it is very limited), it ends up being $90ish after tax. They charge me like $2/month for a modem rental fee. :rolleyes: I am very surprised they don't charge me for having my bedroom tv hooked up, even though I don't have a box. :pity:

 

Don't bank on that. Ticket sales have been slow, as Huizenga said in a resent newspaper article. I think we may only get to see 10 games this year (away games and NE & Jets in Miami).
