Not saying young Teddy is all world, but Quinn is stuck on the bench behind a guy who who 2-17 for 23 yards against the Bills last week.
Sometimes least bad is the best option.

but i still think ginn over patrick willis (who i wanted the entire time) or darelle revis was/is a bad idea.Trowa, GreenMonster, #1 fan and 4 others like this. -
can we just get over it now? I mean for how many years are we going to have to see this post (every week)?

I am happy with Ginn and where he is with his career, I think he is a valuable weapon for us. All this talk about who we could have taken is irrelevant. I am glad we didn't take Quinn, he would have ended up ruined as a Dolphin just like Beck.

Ginn has yet to live up to a 1st round potential, its been more like a late 2nd rounder. Still, not one day since its happened have i been upset that we picked ginn over brady. We made the right pick.
-
I NEVER said Ginn over Quinn was a bad choice, Ginn over Pat Willis was a TERRIBLE pick
Okay, and either Griddles or Pete will be in to bash me in....5....4....3Frumundah Finnatic and SICK like this. -
hey. at least we didn't take jamal anderson. -

I pimped willis like I was his agent on FH
I then went on to equally pimp Glenn Dorsey the LSU horsey.....and swore up and down Matt Ryan would be a bust.....we all know how that is turning out :pity: -
Bashing the pick, isn't bashing Ginn.......he didn't pick himself. I've had plenty un-complimentary things to say about him, but where he was drafted falls on the idiots that used a top ten pick on a return man, wr prospect.
Unless you have a loaded, reigning SB champion team, I can't ever see a situation where it's ok to use a first or second round pick on a situational player. Even a third is really borderline, IMO.
Those guys deserve the Spielman award for drafting.FinSane likes this. -
Well anyone could say that Willis over Ginn is the right choice now... Who's to say that if Willis was in Miami and Ginn was in San Francisco, that their careers would have turned out the same?
For all we know Willis could have sucked in Miami, Ginn would be OK in Miami, and Quinn could be a hall of famer in Miami...
We could play the "what if" game all day, but the fact is... Different players will shine in different situations... For example, I doubt Tom Brady would be what he is today if he was on a different team... he just got a chance at the right time with the right team.
And you started the countdown, figured I may as well respond  -
But you were right about. I remember thinking he'd be the smartest pick, but not the one we'll make.azfinfanmang likes this. -
Ginn would be "OK" pretty much anywhere, a little better or a little worse at the most.
Quinn might be better if he walked into a situation like some of the more recent rookie QB's have flourished in, where he's not the savior on a team with little talent. But doubtful HOF'er.....he was a decent QB prospect in a weak draft for QB's.
But Willis? This guy could make the pro bowl on an expansion team. He was bad *** from day one.. -
On a side note...wonder how ol' Tommy Boy would've done in, oh, I don't know...say Cleveland maybe? Or, how 'bout Oakland? -

:knucks: -
Have you actually ever seen Willis play?
I imagine that Barry Sanders or Walter Payton on bad teams wouldn't have been very good either....oh wait, they were both on TERRIBLE teams :up:SICK likes this. -
Now hold ya Willis lovers, keep in mind what the situation was when Cameron was hired, we had a top ranked defense in 06, we had Zach Thomas coming off of a pro bowl season, we needed offense (or so it could be concluded at the time) not a MLB who would not be expected to play.
Cam and Mueller watched the Wannyphins collapse as their evaluations were simply not realistic especially on Lorenzo Booker and Mauia, but they were not behaving illogically.
There were also more than a few people who wanted Okoye.Frumundah Finnatic and like2god like this. -

Just sayin. -
should of took some one else besides those two
-
Two back offenses are not unheard of AZ, two MLB defenses in the 4-3 are... -
I really don't care if people didn't want Ginn... if they wanted someone else over him... but I think we need to get past that we could have had Drew Brees... Anquan Boldin... Patrick Willis... The list goes on and on. -
-
Would Willis have done well in Miami? Very likely. But will we know? Never, so we have no reason to sound so "matter of fact" when saying it. -
I'm not saying they were right, in fact Okoye would have made more sense the truth be told, everyone outside of Roth on the Dline was well over 30 we could have used a youth infusion...
But instead, the normally smart Dom Capers stuck Joey Porter as a strongside defensive end..this with JP coming off of knee issues...not so good. -
-
Ginn was as Gimpy as could be when we drasted him  -
It is probably agreed that our defense is better than SF's, so some could (not that I am) say that Willis only looks so good because the rest of the defense looks so bad. He might seem a lot like Crowder (from a sheer numbers standpoint) if he played here.GridIronKing34 likes this. -
He did not violate cardinal rule #1 of drafting players, never take a guy who cannot run a 40. -
Back to the OP, I am indeed VERY thankfull we didn't pick Quinn over Ginn
What's even better, the Brown-stripes actually gave up extra draft picks to get him  -
On draft day I posted that Quinn would bust and that I wanted Patrick Willis but Ginn was needed more than ILB. We had zero speed at WR then. It was a draft pick out of necessity. It made sense to me then and its going to pay dividends now that we have Henne

Knowing about Patrick and what he has gone through, I, personally, had no doubt he would do well in the NFL. I actually thought Miami would be a great fit because he could have learned from one of the most cerebral LBers in the game. And saying he would not do well on a bad team.....well, he did play for a very bad Ole Miss team, and flourished! If I had one good thing to say about Ed Orgeron, I would say he had an eye for talent. He just did not know how to coach.
Anyway, Willis is one of those special players who has that "it" factor. He worked hard and stayed humble. He did not holdout. He is a stand-up guy. I watched the guy for 3 years and I just knew. There are always guys coming out being lauded as the next big thing. Willis was not one of those guys, and yet he is.....
