*Right now, we have 2 seconds and one first round picks, which I consider 2 first rounds and one second (because our early second is #32 overall, due to NE's forfeited pick...).
*Parcells (a guy who can be very connected with the Dallas' staff) is here at VP
*Dallas has 2 first round picks and a second...
*Dallas wants McFadden so bad (rumors have it)
*Miami wants to keep McFadden out of his AFC-East rivals (the Jets and the Pats have top 5 picks)
*The Cowboys and the Dolphins can contact themselves to reach an agreement in which Dallas gets the first overall, Miami gets the Cowboys' both firsts and their second (perhaps another pick in the next years' draft?), the Cowboys would pay that price for any top 5 team (McFadden will surely go within the top 5 picks) and is a price that the Cowboys should be willing to pay if they really want McFadden...
Do we get better or worse out of that trade?

honestly i dont want to move out of the top 5 and miss out on either dorsey or long or gholston.

Let me phrase it that way: I've seen highway robberies that weren't that ugly. Trading out of the #1 pick for two first round picks which figure to be in the 20-25 range (with one pick possibly being #30 or #31) would be the mother of all daft draft day moves. Even if Dallas was to offer their first round pick in 2009 and two more 2nd round picks as well, it would be a questionable move for us - and it would certainly be one heck of a dumb move for the Cowgirls.
To make a long story short: I don't see a trade happening with Dallas. Our best shot is to have one team (Atlanta? Carolina?) falling in love with Matt Ryan and looking to secure him by trading up. Unfortunately, the Falcons will have a new FO in place and new FOs generally don't like trading up. Once again the Dolphins will hold a high pick in a draft that lacks a top notch QB - and that's always bad news for a team trying to trade down. It's kind of funny actually: We even suck at sucking ;) -

In order to trade with the boys i'd want:
-both of thier first round picks
-Marcus Spears
-Anthony Spencer
This adds two starters to our front seven and a possible another 2 starters( Fred Davis, best o-linemen). That gives us four starters. I don't know about anyone else but i'd rather have 4 great players then one excellent player. Both Spears and Carpenter were drafted by Parcells and the Cowboys have plenty of depth at those positions to let them go. -
if we trade with Dallas, id want
-both 1st rounders
-2nd rounder
-Bobby Carpenter and Marcus Spears -

Without even looking at the draft value chart i can tell you that Dallas would be stealing our top pick with a trade that lop sided. It would take all of Dallas first day picks plus their 4th to even come close to equaling the value of a top pick. Sure they could toss in a pick next year and keep their 3rd, but that pick would most likely have to be their 1st because its no secret the Cowboys are likely to be among the NFLs elite next year as well. Especially when that top pick lands them one of the best atheletes to come out of college in a long time.

ya know, u can still get 2 great players in the 20-30 section. u can still get Fred Davis (TE) which personally, i think we desperately need him. u can also still get a shutdown corner like Mike Jenkins or Justin King (if we dont get Trufant or Asomugha), or u can still get a good Safety. u can also still get Frank Okam (biiiiiiiiig DT) which we also need.
now if we keep the 1st pick, we'd be getting Long or injury-prone Dorsey. LONG i think, is the only person worth the #1 pick. some people speculate trading Jason Taylor for a 1st round pick, a guy whos 34 and has 10 sacks on the year, pro bowl, still has 5 years left in him....i tend to think he too, can be had for a 1st round pick...probably between 12-18. where u can find someone like Dan Connor or Kenny Phillips.
so now u got 3 first round picks.....can we afford that??? -

my guess would be the cleveland browns, or minnesota vikings...their past defense sucks, taylor could really help. maybe even washington...but with how good cleveland has been, it wouldnt surprise me to see them in the mold for taylor.

Cleveland has no first because they gave it Dallas to get Lady Quinn. -

Miami's Pick has a Draft Points Value Chart worth 3000
Dallas' 2 first rounders combined are worth 1350
Dalls would have to give up roughly their 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks to even get close to making this work. Not gonna happen. However, being as how Parcells built that team and knows the players well, players could be added into the deal to make it happen. I hope it does, but Im not holding my breath..Last edited: Dec 22, 2007 -

I thought Dallas traded their first round pick in 08 to Philly to move up to pick A. Spencer. I could be mistaken, but anyway....
Thats the wrong avenue to go with that trade anyway.
When you are picking first overall, you really don't want to drop that far. I think the Raiders might have an eye on McFadden to team him up with JaMarcus Russell.
And I think they are picking top ten. If they are picking 6th or 7th, then you get their first and second and maybe a fourth.
Then we could pick whoever falls to us (Jake Long, Chris Long, Gholston, DT from USC) and have three 2nd round picks.
As for FA, I would target a DL and S. I would try to load up on WRs that are right now considered second tier (Terrence Copper, Patrick Crayton, perhaps Matt Jones, Michael Clayton). If we sign a plethora of those guys, surely one or two of them would pan out with the guys we have now.
I think after the first round, our 2nd and 3rd rounders will be linemen.
Two wildcards who I think we could get late both from LSU are Matt Flynn and Jacob Hester. Perhaps both PS players the first year...but both are smart and work hard. Hester might even be able to make the team because hes faster than advertised, he blocks, can play STs.....Flynn would be a developmental guy but is coachable and could be a reliable, long term backup that gives your peace of mind once we work out who can be the starter in a couple of years. -
I'd think about it if they threw in Jason Whitten!
-
there was talk about trading our 1st to Atlanta for their 1st, 2nd and DeAngelo Hall...
that wouldnt sound so bad...add Marcus Trufant and it would be hard for NE to pass all over us. -
have you seen Keith Traylor this year? He's 39. And he doesn't rely on speed. -
I would rather try to trade down with Oakland for their 1st and the rights to Asomugha, if we were looking to add a CB. I really don't like the idea of trading too far down in the draft (w/ Dallas), I would rather stay in the top 10 and select Gholston.
Hopefully Parcells can lure a BIG NT to Miami (Haynesworth?). /prayer -
