Just wondering if it makes sense to have Pat White
active as the number 2 Qb on game day when it seems like the wild cat may be a thing of the past.Would you feel more comfortable with White or Tyler Thigpen running the offense in the scenario that Henne would go down with an injury.
This is with the understanding that both White and Thigpen have a grasp of the playbook and offense. If they do then I would want to see Thigpen as the number 2 QB on this team.
Although White did produce in college he hasn't put up 18 TDs in a nfl season like Tyler has.
I've got to feel that Thigpen should/would be the better choice as a number 2 than what we have now
feedback please

I think its a legit question when talking #2 and who would be more efective in that role if given a situation in real game action.
However i will keep him at #2 because i still think he can run some of the things ronnie ran, from the base wildcat, not the spread stuff, the base wildcat..Let him run the sweep to ricky and take it up inside there a few times, let Pat do some of the passes that were implemented for Ronnie, do this to take some carries away from ricky... i think the kid can handle some of what ronnie was doing..
I also think we value keeping the opponent preparing mid week. -

in our current state .... no, it makes no sense to keep him active - make him the emergency QB .... unless, we just have no use for Thigpen -- which at this point would make me ask why we sought him out to begin with.
-
I'd definitely make Thigpen our #2 QB, unless he just doesn't know the playbook yet.
-
If Henne isn't returning to the game, we can activate Thigpen anyway. If Henne is returning, they seem to have enough confidence in White to run the offense for a few snaps.

is there some rule that says you have to bring in the number 2 QB before the number can even come in? i know that once 3 comes in, thats it, no one else can.
and LMAO at comparing 18 TD passes from a starting QB to 0 from a back up, rookie QB. boy, people will pull anything out of anywhere to make an argument out of nothing.
i dont doubt for 1 second that thigpen mops up if anything were to happen to henne. i think pat white needs to bulk up before he sees any extended playing time. -
Why does it matter if White is the #2? It just means if Henne goes down, Thigpen can go in and White nor Henne can return to the game. Remember when Penny went down? White was #2 and Henne was #3 but it was Henne who came in.

We don't need the Wildcat.

Say it out loud "Pat White is our backup Quarterback"
See, that is easy enough. -
However, in the words of Henning, they are happy with White as the backup Qb. -
If White is #2, then it's by nothing more than default. Next years TC should straighten out this problem.Eop05 likes this. -

when or if henne goes down
god forbid
thigpen would then go into the game
with white the passing game would be gone
that currently listed #3 qb gives you a much better chancejetssuck likes this. -

2) White is a fine Qb prospect, and worth developing.
Consider, Henne is the man, we have White and Thiggy as backups, White has ton of upside (he would be a better version of Garrard imho) and Thiggy does have starting experience, develop them both, and have trade fodder 2 or 3 years from now.
Packers did that exact thing for years, and traded Hasselback for a #1 pick, traded Aaron Brooks for a #3 or #4, and I think there was one other Qb they traded off (no not Favre..)like2god likes this. -

I know my big fear is that he is going to get tackled and broken in 2. He seems very scrawny and thin. Im not saying that makes him a bad QB, it simply does not put me at ease. The other thing is I have seen him throw the ball twice at most and I do not recall if it was preseason or reg. I recommend he start going to some cuban restaurants and eating moros and ropa vieja and fried plantains everyday, he will be nice and built for next season!!!

Well L2G, it is not possible to say either way what Pat White's accuracy is, he has only limited snaps, and even less chance to throw the ball or run the base offense.
I suspect we won't know either way until preseason of 2010. -

5 passes? Two deep passes that are hit or miss no matter who is throwing the ball.
White is a Qb, imho he will make a fine NFL Qb, I can dig that other people don't agree with my opinion and take the absurd position that "he is not a Qb prospect so convert him to Wr where he is even less of a prospect" is a division that cannot, and will not possibly be resolved until 2010, 9 months from now at that, if anyone is game enough to spend 9 months arguing about "Pat White, Wr?" then more power to you. -
All with the second and third stringers, and even then, he threw very few passes, and even then Qb Coach Lee tinkered with his throwing motion, they did the same for Romo and it took him years to develop.
Give him some time to develop, I suspect we will see an improved White simply because he is willing to put in the work to improve. -
If he were going to contribute early on offense, the place for him to do it would be the WC or the option, in both cases he hasn't done much of anything. It has to be alarming even to his most devout supporters that he's having trouble making plays with his legs, that's much easier than making plays with his arm, head and vision.
When I talk about drafting him and it being a waste, I'm talking quality of the player and his contributions to this team versus what was out there. You just don't spend high draft picks on part time players who may only see 5 plays a game. -
Sorry to go off topic, but what I don't understand is, why can't we run the WC with Pat taking the snap and have Ricky as the option he was when Ronnie was taking the snap?
Or even Ricky taking the snap with Ginn/White/Sheets on the option that Ricky was when Brown was taking the snap? -
But that doesn't particularly bother me, he's a #2 Qb, and a rookie, any production we can get out of him is a sort of bonus, most #2's never see the field.
I think people see "#44 pick! He should do more!"
Instead of " Backup Qb with tons of upside if we develop him".
Quite the opposite, the argument was Henne would take over for Penny either sometime this year, or to start the year, there was no moaning over what a waste the Henne pick was...eric likes this. -
His pro day was packed with scouts that were pissed off about him choosing to not run any routes........so maybe the idea isn't as "absurd" as you might think. -

He's the 3rd best QB on this team.....if Brown wasn't injured I'd put him at 4th.
Trying to develop him at something besides QB, isn't absurd. It's our best chance at getting value out of the pick and his best chance to be more than a foot note in this league.
