Once again, I am here to waste your time with the Dol-Fan Dupree Manifesto. Why manifesto? Because I am making fun of someone that 1% of people on this site knows about. The yearly article that got me chewed out by Rob Konrad’s father because I was kind of a jerk in college. I am less of a jerk now.
This season is interesting. I am excited and a little scared. I don’t want to get my heart broken again. There are people on this site that do not remember when the Dolphins were always in the playoff hunt. It has been so long. Eff Philbin!
Quarterback:
Ryan Tannehill – A player that people dislike for the wrong reasons. You can dislike him for his pretty boy good looks or his lack of dance moves, however, as a quarterback, he is much better than a lot of people give credit. Football is a team game. I believe that many people need to Bart Simpson that for a week to get it through their thick skulls. I am not just talking about fans. People who talk about football give quarterbacks way too much credit and blame even after saying that quarterbacks get too much credit and blame. I do not think he is as good as a Peyton Manning or one of the best, however, I do see Tannehill as one of the better quarterbacks in the league. I am still grateful for him to stop the “Quarterbacks since Marino” list that used to play before every game. – KEEP
Matt Moore – If you follow this board, you know I am not a fan of Matt Moore. He does not have a strong arm, he fumbles a lot, he makes bad decisions and gets credit for winning games where he deserves very little credit. He is a fine backup. If he wasn’t so freaking cheap, I would say get rid of him. However, he is very cheap. Tannehill likes having him around. I would be a fool to want to get rid of him. – KEEP
Brandon Doughty – An interesting prospect. Hopefully, he got more meat on his bones. He looked a little slender last season. I thought he looked great in the first preseason game and then not so great the rest. His college stats are off the charts. We will see this year if he can develop into a good backup – KEEP
David Fales – I do not know who he is. He is smaller than Doughty. A camp arm is my guess. A pretty good career. He has been in the league for 3 years. That is pretty good. Good for him. Not everyone can keep up their dreams for that long – CUT
Runningback:
Jay Ajayi – I went into this season excited about him. Then he disappointed me. He started the season very poor. Then all of a sudden the light went off and he blew onto the scene. Now he looks like one of the best runningback in the league. If he can continue to break tackles and make plays, he will be in the conversation as the best runningback in the league. I did not expect that. His power and vision are extraordinary. His speed is good enough. The only criticism I have is I wish he would stop trying to juke running backs when he is 20 or so yards down the field. He is not going to do that. Just run their asses over. Get those extra 5 yards. – Keep
Kenyan Drake – I keep on making a joke, “Forgot about Drake,” in reference to “Forgot about Dre.” To be honest, I do not even find that joke that funny. Makes me kind of chuckle. I should probably just stop. Drake has elite speed for a running back his size. Just like a tweaker, I love speed. He also has good strength. I have a lot of hope for his ability to step up this season. – KEEP
Damien Williams – A running back whose biggest weakness is the main job of a running back. His vision is very poor, which makes him struggle at running out of the backfield. It seems that each game there will be one carry where he will get negative yards by trying to bounce it outside when there was no reason to. He does have elite quickness, is good at catching out of the backfield, good at blocking, and is a great special teamer. He is good at everything else a running back has to do. What a weird player – KEEP
De’Veon Smith – An undrafted rookie free agent. Watching his tape, he has great vision and a huge drive. Not super powerful, but will break tackles. He is also pretty slow. Looks unathletic out there, but gets the job done. Might be a dark horse to unseat Damien Williams, as it would be nice to have a running back who can pound the rock. Funny, same size as Williams – CUT
Storm Johnson – A running back who has not taken the NFL by storm. Get it? Storm? I am just not funny. – CUT
Senorise Perry – I know nothing about this guy. Apparently, he is fast. I should really do more research – CUT
Wide Receiver:
DeVante Parker – One thing that annoyed me last season was the lack of broken tackles by him. He should really have more broken tackles. He was too easy to bring down. Apparently he is has been working very hard this offseason. Which would be nice because he has shown the potential to be a go-to wide receiver who you can just throw the ball up to if no one is open and he can come down with an amazing catch. – KEEP
Kenny Stills – I love his speed. One thing he does not get enough credit is his regular route running. He has been open for some big 3rd down plays. The last catch against the Cardinals to win the game he deserves about 90% of the credit for that play. He beat his guy deep, which was one of the main jobs of the cornerback to not allow him to do, and then came back to make a great catch on a very poor throw. Stills had a couple of huge catches. He is still young. He is only 25. Crazy. – KEEP
Jarvis Landry – One of my favorite Dolphins because of his passion. I hope Miami signs him to a long-term contract because I bought his jersey. He has a knack for making big plays. One might say he is a big play wide receiver. He might not have elite speed, quickness, or size. He does have an elite heart. Like if Rudy actually worked on his body instead of crying about watching to be a Notre Dame football player. I mean seriously. Why does that little pipsqueak get so much credit? He doesn’t hit the gym and do football drills all day. He just complains like a baby about not getting into the game and runs around in practice. What a douchebag! Honestly, **** Rudy! – KEEP
Leonte Carroo – A player who proves there are Dolphin fans who do not understand how math works. He did have one good touchdown catch that showed the promise of the type of player that he is. Unfortunately, he also did not show enough passion and love for the game to keep him off the bench. That is not a good sign. I do not know what to think about him. I am just not excited after his rookie season. I know that is too soon to write a player off, however, here I am – CUT
Rashawn Scott – A plucky player with good size. His special team play earned him being active in games. Doing youtube scouting, I enjoyed his game. A powerful player. – CUT
Jakeem Grant – Fast. So fast. His rookie season was plagued with drops and a few miscues. However, he is fast and quick. Extremely fast and quick. Had one of the better returns that I have seen called back that lead up to a potentially game-winning touchdown that turned out to be the game-winning touchdown. Had a lot of catches in college. I think he is going to play more. I am excited about his potential and this season he does need to produce. He is also very small. – KEEP
Isaiah Ford – A player Miami drafted in the seventh instead of all of the other players I would rather have due to my extensive research of, well, none. Just kidding, I do play those draft games and get bored in the seventh as I do not know most of those players. He can make great catches but seems to have a problem getting open. – CUT
Malcolm Lewis – A player who spent a lot of time injured. One of those high school prospects that people were excited about, but spent most of their time hurt or trying to get back to pre-injury play. Good story. – CUT
Drew Morgan – Landry Junior, Little Juice, White Juice. Umm, maybe not the last one. Some people might think his nickname is sperm. Might not be the fastest player, but has the fastest heart. That wasn’t as clever as I hoped. Go, heart! Go Ma-Ti! I had to look that up. All my life I thought his name was Monty. Not to get political, but we could sure use Captain Planet right now. – KEEP
Damore’ea Stringfellow – A player who never lived up to his potential due to his poor attitude. Is that going to change? I hope so. – KEEP
Francis Owusu – In a weird turn of events, he is the only player when I did a youtube search only came up with one catch. It was a great catch. However, that is it. Joby Saint Fleur has more highlights and he went to NW Oklahoma St. – CUT
Tight End:
Julius Thomas – One of those basketball players who come to the NFL and turn out to be pretty good. A lot of skills in rebounding translate to tight end. Who knew? Was a huge disappointment in Jax. However, most players become huge disappointments in Jax. Jacksonville is the new Detroit. Should help in the red zone. – KEEP
Anthony Fasano – The best second tight end in the NFL is back. He is good enough at catching and one of the best at blocking. He is a perfect player to have as your number two tight end. Should help Miami’s power running game and pass blocking as well. Good solid pick up. – KEEP
MarQueis Gray – He was a quarterback. Tim Tebow should have become a tight end. He might still be in the league. I thought Gray took a good step last season. He is a good athlete and did a good job at H-Back. I am actually excited for his development and would enjoy seeing a package with Thomas, Fasano, and Gray out at the same time. – KEEP
Thomas Duarte – I do not know. He is mostly a big wide receiver. Can he learn to block? Can his route running improve? Will he make the team? Find out next season, same Duarte time, same Duarte channel. – KEEP
Chris Pantale – I always feel kind of embarrassed when I do this every year and come to a player that I never even heard of before. Luckily you do not know that unless I point it out. Then I am no longer embarrassed when I realize that. He is tall. He is more of a blocking tight end. – CUT
Offensive Line:
Mike Pouncey – He is hurt. Always hurt. Stop being hurt. One of the best centers in the league. Just needs to stop getting hurt. – KEEP
Ted Larsen – Man does the site experts, not like this guy. – KEEP
Anthony Steen – He was O.K. last year. Just O.K. – CUT
Kraig Urbik – A little better than O.K. – KEEP
Jake Brendel – From the hall of Mordor comes a man with the last name that kind of reminds me of a legend. That legend of the world's first epic hero and the monster he destroyed. Angelina Jolie was half naked in that movie, which was a good thing, unfortunately, she was CGI. – CUT
Jermon Bushrod – A player who PFF said was the worst at his position. A player who Gase said was their second best offensive lineman. I think both of them are wrong. He is a fine backup. Hopefully, someone will overtake him as a starter. – KEEP
Issac Asiata – A player who is known for being nasty. So you want to call him Mr. Asiata if you are nasty as well. Seems to have a problem with his balance when sustaining a block. Is very good during the first few seconds of his block. Great punch. Which makes sense since he has a very powerful upper body. Needs to work on his feet. – KEEP
Laremy Tunsil – I am very excited about him playing left tackle. He looked good last year during his short stint. He was a good enough guard. Still, cannot believe he is a Miami Dolphin. Need more people trying to ruin talented players lives, so they can fall to the Miami Dolphins. Although he still lost millions of dollars, he still has millions of dollars and is still living out his life’s ambition. I would say the guy who tried to ruin his life did hurt him a little, however, pretty much lost. Great feet, great balance, everything you want in a left tackle – KEEP
Ja’Waun James – A player who has all the potential to be great and has played O.K. Needs to step it up this season if he wants to make the big bucks. – KEEP
Sam Young – I thought he was useless. One of the worst 6th linemen I have ever seen. I thought Sims was a better blocker than him. I thought Jones was a better blocker than him. – CUT
Avery Young – One of those players with talent, that got hurt. Let’s see him come back in a big way! – KEEP
Eric Smith – One-way teams become great is having undrafted free agents work out. Giving them a good player with not a huge price tag. Here is hoping Eric Smith becomes one of those players – KEEP
Terry Poole – I once played pool with a giant of a man. He pool stick was like a toothpick to the man. I lost 7 out of 8 games. I lost my house to that man. As much as that story is true, is how much I know about Terry Poole – CUT
Jesse Davis – Jessie Davis wins the generic name award for one of the most generic names in the NFL. Started as a defensive tackle and moved to tackle. Was cut from the Seahawks. Was an offensive lineman who was cut from the Seahawks. The team that started a college tight end who barely played in college. Let that sync. – CUT
Defensive Tackle:
Ndamukong Suh – He has been a Miami Dolphin for how long and I still cannot say his first name? One of the best at his position. One of the better players who has ever laced on cleats as a Miami Dolphin. I do not know if he will make it into the Hall of Fame, however, he will make it into the Halls of Valhalla and drink from his chalice all of the tears of the offensive linemen he made cry. – KEEP
Jordan Phillips – A lot of people like giving up on players very early. Like if they do not develop right away he will never develop. Which is not always the case. Jordan has shown great athleticism with a suboptimal motor. Not a terrible motor. He does see the field. Just need to be more consistent. If he can become consistent, Miami is going to have a great line – KEEP
Lawrence Okoye – A great story. A player who has all of the talents in the world. Just none of the skill. Which makes sense because was a track and field star. More of the field part, of course. You are not going to see Usain Bolt play defensive tackle. He has shown enough to last in the NFL for two seasons. Why not? – KEEP
Nick Williams – If I took a shot each time I said, “Who is this Williams guy?” last season, I would have been drunk a few games. I kept on forgetting he was on the team. I do not think this year I will have to remember whose his name – CUT
Davon Godchaux – Now that is the last name. Lime God! – KEEP
Vincent Taylor – He blocked so many kicks! He isn’t even that tall. Great quickness. Hopefully, can provide some pressure inside – KEEP
Defensive End:
Cameron Wake – To say Wake is my favorite player is an understatement. He is an amazing player. Love watching him play. Hopefully, he can keep it up another season. The way he takes care of himself, he should. – KEEP
Andre Brach – He is fine. Paid a little more than I think he should be paid. It is not my money. Still, would like to see that money go to a guard. He is fine. – KEEP
Charles Harris – Miami drafted for two things. One is ability. The other is the attitude. This guy has an amazing attitude. A very hard worker with an explosive first step. He can be someone in this league. – KEEP
William Hayes – He does not believe in dinosaurs. How do you not believe in dinosaurs? He is good against the run. Thinks he is the best at it. However, I cannot take his word. He does not believe in dinosaurs. – KEEP
Julius Warmsley – Preseason king of 2016. Did not do well in the regular season. Miami had to sign someone to start over him. I cannot remember his name. – CUT
Praise Martin-Oguike – What happens when two people with hyphenated names get married? I wonder that sometimes. A player who has a lot of draftable qualities. Looked very good. I am interested to see how this player can play. Can probably do both de and lb. Might be more of an LB. However, on the Miami Dolphins website, they have him at DE – KEEP
Joby Saint Fleur – He went to NW Oklahoma St. When watching his tape I hoped to see a man among boys. In a metaphorical sense of course. Just NFL players should look amazing when playing against much less talent. He did not look amazing. If he was playing against good teams, he looked good enough. He should look God-Like. – CUT
Terrence Fede – Speaking of God-Like, Fede looked that way on his college tape. He played linebacker sometimes. Was just more athletic than everyone else. He is athletic enough to play in the NFL. Has not shown enough. This is his make it or breaks it season for him being a Miami Dolphin. He needed to have worked out very hard and practiced a lot. We will see if he has enough – CUT
Cameron Malveaux – If I was ever to make a movie set in New Orleans, my bad guy’s last name is going to be Malvenaux. – CUT
Arthur Miley – I am at a loss. He is tall. He has a name. His name is not funny enough to make a clever pun. – CUT
Linebacker:
Kiko Alonso – He wins the most fun name to yell out loud. Almost makes me want to dance. Should be one of those singers who keep on saying his own name. Should have a song that is his entire name. It would make the EDM top 5 at least! Miami’s only starter worthy linebacker last season. So happy Miami now has more than one. – KEEP
Lawrence Timmons – To say Miami had poor linebackers last season is to say the obvious. They had Donald Butler and Paysinger as a starter at the same time. I am very excited to have Timmons on the team. He brings something to Miami that Miami hasn’t had for a while. A chance to have two good starting linebackers who stay healthy – KEEP
Koa Misi – As a player, he deserves much more credit than given. Always in or close to the top 10 in PFF ratings for any position he played. A good defensive end, good strong side linebacker, even was a good middle linebacker. Unfortunately, he deserves his nickname as Koa Missing as he is hurt a lot. I do not know if he can return after his last neck injury. He has a small contract. I hope he can do it because he can be a good starter or amazing depth. – KEEP
Raekwon McMillan – The Chef. Nice nickname. A great leader and a hard worker. Miami went for A+ personalities with their first two picks. They wanted players who are already accomplished leaders. McMillan is a very interesting player from a leadership standpoint. He also is a very sure tackler. He might not lay the big hits, however, those are very overrated. In fact, smaller tackles also generate fumbles. It is all about putting the hands on the ball. Football can sound dirty in the wrong context. – KEEP
Neville Hewitt – An interesting player. I have seen him play very good. I have seen him play pretty bad. When Miami upset New England two years ago, Hewitt was a big part of it. Then he did not step up last season. Then he got hurt. So many linebacker injuries. I do not know what to make of this guy. – KEEP
Deon Lacy – Miami signed him with the promise that he would get a good chance to become a starter. Then they were all like, “Just kidding!” Good one Miami. You sure got him good. – KEEP
Chase Allen – I was very impressed looking at his tape. By tape, I mean YouTube video. He looked great against lesser competition. Very athletic. Then CKParrothead mentioned he had the same profile as Mike Hull. I thought, “No way, CK has made an error in judgment.” Then I looked it up. Turns out, I was wrong. CKParrothead was right. See how easy that is? If you disagree with someone, look it up. Don’t just way things and argue for argument sake. We live in the age of the internet. The fact that people still spout of things as facts when there are many avenues in figuring out of you are right or not is silly. Plus, who cares if you are right? Is it really that big of a blow to your little ego? What is wrong with you? – CUT
Mike Hull – I was going to cut him, however, he is like a short Chase Allen. He already showed he has the ability to play. Plus he has a fan in Miami’s special team coach. – KEEP
Brandon Watts – The reason I want him to make the team so I can say, “Good ol Watts” each time he makes a play. I am so old. – CUT
Lamin Barrow – His middle name is Samboujang. That is a middle name. One of the most glorious middle names in the history of middle names. Mine is Alan. Not nearly as cool. – CUT
Trevor Reilly – When I saw his name, my first thought was, “This guy has to be white.” Do not judge a person by their names. When I looked up who he was, sure enough, he was white. Well still is. I might have been right this time, however, do not judge someone based on their name is still good advice. – CUT
Cornerback:
Byron Maxwell – Interesting player. He is paid a pretty penny. A huge penny if you will. He hasn’t played up to his pretty penny contract. However, Miami doesn’t have anyone better. Or do they? – CUT
Xavien Howard – I like him. He reminds me of Vontae Davis. Great size and speed. Not as good as a tackler, however, will probably hurt himself less than Vontae. He did spend some time injured last season. That happens. When he did play, he looked great. All signs are pointing up. – KEEP
Tony Lippett – A player who has had too much playing time due to injuries. He still does not have cornerback's feet; however, his length has helped make up for it. Hopefully this offseason he has spent a lot of time working on that back pedal and short quickness. If he has, then Miami has a good cornerback on their team. – KEEP
Cordrea Tankersley – Now that is a name to type out. Wow. Just wow. I do not know why he was available so low. He was the 97th pick in the draft. Reading his draft profile, the best I could find is a few times he missed a tackle. I think this is a case of a very good player falling in a very good draft. I think he is going to be a very good cornerback. One of the two players I am going to be fine with cutting Maxwell – KEEP
Lafayette Pitts – LAFAYETTE! I love Hamilton. Anyway, the other player. He shined last preseason. Made the team due to special team play. Which is good, IMO, because special teams are mostly attitude. If you make the team as a special teamer, it shows you work hard. – KEEP
Bobby McCain – He plays a position where he is going to mostly fail. It is very hard to be a slot corner in today’s NFL. Basically, his job is to prevent first downs and not catches, because they are going to get the catch. It is a thankless position. – KEEP
Jordan Lucas – I am not a fan. I do not even want to write anything clever. I am at the point where I kind of wants to be done. This is the problem with doing this in one day. Trying to be funny, and missing every time. Whoa is me. – CUT
Larry Hope – I like his last name. I bet he hopes he doesn’t get – CUT
Torry McTyer – His number is 5. He is the only single digit cornerback. That does not bode well for him. He is fast. He does not weigh much. – CUT
Safety:
Reshad Jones – One of the best in the league. I should buy his jersey. – KEEP
Nate Allen – A player who played well. Got a big contract. Got hurt. Did not play as well the year after he got hurt. Got cut. Now he is a Dolphin. The song as old as time. – KEEP
Walt Aikens – Special teams superstar Walt Aikens. Getting some work in at cornerback. If he can provide depth at both spots that will increase his chance of making the team – KEEP
T.J. McDonald – At this point, who cares. He won’t come back until week 9 anyway. Chances are someone will be hurt by then. Great talent, can’t stop getting suspended. – SUSPENDED
A.J. Hendy – Another player who looked good in preseason. Hopefully, he will take the next step. – KEEP
Maurice Smith – Looks like he has a rule named after him that is getting proposed. I want a rule named after me. Something to do with bacon and boobs. – CUT
Michael Thomas – Good leader. Not that good of a player. Not that bad of a player. Just O.K. Good at special teams. Can play slot corner, but not that good at it. Has a name that is good if you switch the last for the first name. Then he would be Thomas Michael. Which sounds like a preacher’s name. – CUT
Special Teams:
Andrew Franks – Is he the only Kicker on the team? I thought there was a second kicker. The website doesn’t have him. I guess he wins by default. Two of Homer Simpson's favorite words. – KEEP
Matt Darr – He is good enough. – KEEP
Matt Haack – Too man a’s in his last name. That is not how Jesus intended it. When Jesus invited last names. I slept a lot during Sunday school I never went to because I never attended Sunday school in my life. – CUT
John Denney – Good ole 92. – KEEP
Winston Chapman – The next to try to unseat the king. Will he have a chance to sit on the long snapper throne? – CUT
Overall - I am excited about this season. Gase has me excited. I love the energy and the leadership style he provides. He is bringing something I feel this team has lacked for a long time. A coach that can empathize with his players and demand their best out of them. He can talk to them at their level, and push them to move forward. He also has a plan to do so. I have studied leadership for the past 12 years, and Gase has me excited as he embodies a lot of the best traits I have studied. Not only that, this team has some serious talent. The offense has the talent to be a top 10. The defense has the talent to be a top 15. They just need to put it together. Last year when I did this I felt like I wrote, "if this player works out, Miami will be good." The funny part is, most of those players did not work out and Miami still made the playoffs. This season they are not banking on a bunch of players stepping up to be decent. They are banking on a bunch of players stepping up to be great. After nearly 15 years of the Dolphins make me cry, this might be the first time in a very long time where the tears are tears of joy. 2017 can be the year where people talk about Miami finally turning into a great team. Of course, it can also turn into a year where people say that 2016 was a mirage. We will see, and that is what makes football exciting. Go Phins!

I look forward to this each and every year. Love it!

Not a bad list EXCEPT FOR the Moore hate and the advice to cut every center that's not named Pouncey. Since Pouncey may not be able to start the season on the active roster, I guess your plan is for Tannehill to just walk up to the line and pick up the darn ball himself. I'm sure the NT's of the league would love that logic!
-
-
Exactly. Not sure what Key was getting at. Since he was signed, most have figured that Larsen is the backup center and will get playing time with Pouncey hurt inevitably.
Thanks for the fun writeup, Dupree. I have my differences, but they aren't major. Big picture, while I don't think that they will drop off as far as the record goes, even if they do, the season can still be one of progress, and 2018 can still be the one where they make a major move to the top of the league. There is a ton to like about the Fins these days.eltos_lightfoot and Dol-Fan Dupree like this. -

The Rob Konrad thing was REALLY funny back in the day. (Was that the other site?). Anyway I really do look forward to the Manifesto every year. It doesn't feel like the new year is ready to go until I read it. It looks like this is the first year in quite a while where it was a challenge for ya Dupree. We are finally getting some talent on the team.

It's not even about right or wrong, it's the hilarious way he cuts guys and keeps them. :D You shouldn't take it so seriously.Tin Indian, Dol-Fan Dupree and Fin D like this.

Yes That was the other site.
I do think the talent is good this season. -

Byron Maxwell's contract is not a factor. Miami is not in cap-hell. There is no way he gets cut, and the thought should never even be mentioned. We just pay him contract money, no signing bonus. Howard cannot prove he is healthy. Same thing for Carroo, even friendlier contract and Parker isn't always healthy. Getting back to Max, he played better as the season went on and there just isn't enough proven talent after him and Howard. And saying you are all in Lippett is just insane

Wait, what? Logic?! Facts?! Those are for weenies. If you can't support your argument solely based on the fact that I said so or I read it on the intertubes so it must be true than you are some weak sauce.
