Would've been nice to see Jordan on the field a lot more. He seemed to have an impact when he was out there for those whopping 8* snaps per game

I don't know how Dion Jordan graded this year, but to the eye he looks like he's going to be good. I really don't know why coyle was so down on him. The rest of the draft....yeah

 

Unless you can get through to Ross it looks like we are cursed with this abomination for the forseeable future.

I don't know if it's Coyle or our coaches or what, but other than Tannehill they seem very down on playing any young players. Because, our veterans are so awesome :-p

 

Let's not take into effect that the coaching staff doesn't want to play rookies the first year. Their philosophy has always been sit for a year and learn. Tannehill was the only one who didn't have to share any time with someone else or sit.

 

Dion Jordan certainly ain't no Aldon Smith. Shame. So much resources spent where they could of been spent elsewhere.

 

I'm no fan of Ireland, and I think he should have been fired long ago, but I'm not willing to let Philbin escape blame on this. The coaching staff is down right stupid and stubborn when it comes to playing younger guys, or guys who don't fit 30 year old NFL molds.

 

Agree, he does pass that test.....just has that "it" factor when on the field it seems. Here's to next year.

The "it" factor from the DE position would be getting to the QB. Not just getting pressure. It was clear Aldon Smith and Cameron Wake had the "it" factors. I think Jordan clearly had his impressive moments, but that is simply not NEAR enough for the #3 pick.

 

Disgusting. To cheer for Ireland's continued employment is to cheer failure.

 

We took guys at positions that ended up being strengths of our team. We might not have taken Jordan had we known Vernon would have an 11.5 sack season. We don't take two CBS had we known Carroll would step up the way he did (jimmy Wilson too, to a lesser extent)

In retrospect, they should have all been lineman. But I'm still glad Jordan's here.

 

Cam Wake was cut his rookie year. you're comparing Wake as a vet to Jordan as a rookie.

 

If they lined him up at DE every time I would agree, but he was all over the place and still showed "it".....that was positive from a variety of fronts and the role he was put in.

 

I'm comparing his first year playing in the NFL. The same "can't play the run" so he's going to play in passing situations was said about Wake. And if you don't like my Wake comparison look no further then Aldon smith. The other guy.

Wake was not a "vet" his first season here.

 

I'm not saying there weren't a lot of positives. He definitely looked like he could be a good player. But that's not what you draft someone at 3 for. To look like he could be a good player. You pick someone at 3, to be dominate for years to come.

 

Maybe I am stating something different then you....I am saying Jordan wasnt the problem based on #3 overall....I am saying the problem lies with the coaches that refused to play him everydown even after he showed that "it" factor when he did get his chance.

He showed it when played....if you dont let him use it, then the problem is elsewhere

 

Someone who can sack Brady one play and cover gronkowski on the next play is worth that pick IMO.

 

Where was he going to play? I realize the linebackers didn't play good at all, but you had confidence that Dion would be able to fill the run lanes from a linebacker position?

So you are mad at the use of the pick (Ireland?)...or mad at Coaches for not using him? Or saying regardless of talent/need or coaches, Jordan is not a good DE nor have the talent to be an everydown player????

 

Wake didn't even make his first NFL team. His first year with the Dolphins he had 5.5 sacks. Jason Taylor had 5 his first year and 2.5 his third, starting 15 games that year. Granted, you'd like to see more than 2 sacks from the 3rd overall. No question about that, but it's still to early to say whether he has "it" or not.

 

Definitely not saying Jordan won't be a good every down DE. Alls I am saying is you don't expect the #3 pick to have to improve to get on the field.

And I'd say BOTH your first two options. I don't like the resources given up unless you have an Aldon Smith type of impact immediately. And I also don't like the coaches not using him more, more specifically when Wake was out with injury. He should of gotten the first crack, but they felt like his game had to many holes at the time.

Next year if he has 14 sacks it makes this conversation mute. But we can certainly judge it based on today. And it was a bad draft.

Jordan is a guy that can be very good, let's give him some time, JT took a while to get it going as well and we all know how he turned out to be. Expecting as huge impact from rookies - especially one that missed a lot of training camp and was injured in the beginning of the season- is just wishful thinking IMO.

 

I don't have that big of a problem with coaches that are hesitant to give rookies a ton of playing time. Rookies make mistakes. Having said that, the fact that guys like Taylor, Davis and especially Dallas Thomas barely saw the field given the issues at those positions is a bit disturbing. This draft class needs to make themselves known next season or this franchise will probably get set back once again.

 

I'm a diehard Cubs fan too. Its a very similar experience. Been a fan of both teams since the late 80s.

Fins have been in one AFC title game in that span (1992). Cubs one NLCS (2003).

Both teams were good in 2008, and lousy since. Both h

ave gotten their butts kicked in the playoffs on the occasions where they've made it.

Both have a fairly new owner who's had trouble dealing with local politicians regarding the stadium upgrades.

Both had a history of hiring big name coaches or managers who'd won elsewhere, but couldn't get the club to the same level, but more recently hiring no-names who've never been the head man anywhere else.

With the Cubs, they have a lot of talent in the minors that fans hope will oneday shine at the big league level. With the Fins, we finally have a talented QB and a few other good players who just haven't put it together yet, and hope that a better coach will get things going.

The Fins last won a title when my dad was in college. The Cubs last did when....my great grandparents were about that age.

You may not have realized it when you said it, but they really are mirror franchises!

 

Aldon Smith has 42 sacks in 43 career games. Yes in their first 3 seasons smith>Taylor. Obviously it's still to be seen whether Smith can be as good as Taylor for as long as Taylor.

And I will give Dion time. I'm not here proclaiming him a bust. I like what I seen from him.

There's really no excuse for not knowing better than to make a article or thread like this. If you're exposed to football to this degree, and you've got the resources available to you, don't post dumb ****.

 

I think the next GM (or Ireland if he is kept) has to do his best to try and fix the OL in free agency so he won't have his hands tied in the draft. The draft is where you pick up your future impact players and difference makers, you can't count on FA to do that because then you'll wind up overpaying like we did with Wallace.
If you look at the winning franchises they very rarely pick-up coveted skill position players in FA cause they already have guys like that brought in and developed from the draft.

 

To be fair regarding the draft and Ireland, 3 of the first 4 picks were known to be injured. Will Davis injured himself during preseason. So actually Ireland drafted for talent in the long haul despite drafting for desperation? If so you would have to respect that knowing his job was on the line, still I would fire him.

If you look at what we got from the draft this year, sure it was a failure.
But wasn´t Taylor even considered a first round talent and D. Thomas had a shoulder operation or not before the season. Therefore I would say give it atleast the next preseason and half a year. If than all of these picks do not produce ok you can talk about failure.

By the way, think Jenkins could develop into something.

What are you talking about? They did a great job carrying pads in practice, and their clapping was outstanding as they were inactive for most games.

As a side maybe it gets an F for this season since it didn't contribute much or at all (not that I expect most of it to, but a few of them like Jordan should have been played more), but it is still too early to tell obviously. The 3rd year is the big one for evaluating the draft class, it could go from an F this year to a B next year or the year after. However, I'm not optimistic considering the Dolphins have had one player they drafted stay on the team past his rookie deal I think in 10 years???

 

So does anyone want to step up here and go on record as claiming that Jacksonville Jaguars had a better draft class than the Dolphins?
