With owner Stephen Ross opting once again for half measures, the mess will continue. A new G.M. will inevitably want his own coach. A new G.M. will have concerns about whether Aponte is aligned with the coach against the G.M.
Inevitably, the best available candidate for the G.M. position won’t want the job, because the best available candidate will be smart enough to steer clear of a churning, toxic stew.
Instead of a cycle that consists of firing the coach one year and then firing the G.M. two years later and then firing the coach two years after that and so on, Ross at some point needs to press the reset button, fire everybody, start over, and stick with whatever alignment he puts in place for more than two or three years.

This is ridiculous. Its already been reported by Darlington (who has a lot of Dolphin and NFL connections) yhat our GM position is highly coveted around the league.
I take thst article with a grain of salt.RoninFin4, SICK, Mile High Fin and 4 others like this. -
I read the title and thought to myself this is either a La Canfora or Florio hit piece......

Mike Florio regurgitating crap written by his best bud Armando Salguero. The only worry Miami has of not getting a top flight GM is if Ross decides to go with VP of Football Operations route instead of placing that power with the new GM, as per Jason Cole's tweet last night.
Asking the new GM to work with the incumbent head coach for 1 year is not a cause for concern, it happens all of the time. Last year, John Idzik was asked to do this with Rex Ryan, and Dave Gettleman of the Panthers was asked to work with Ron Rivera. Both kept their jobs. The year prior Phil Emery was asked to do the same Lovie Smith, who was fired for missing the playoffs. It puts Philbin on the hot seat to perform, and if he does then we, the fans win. If he doesn't then he gets fired and we, the fans win again by getting a new head coach. What isn't there to like?MrClean, Sumlit, heylookatme and 2 others like this. -
So we got rid of Sherman AND IRELAND, and people STILL want to complain? I don't get this fanbase. Like we get what we want, and it's never enough. I haven't seen anyone, really, complain about Aponte, but with Ireland gone, apparently she's the new thing to complain about?

Tannehill is thought of very highly around the league offices. It isn't often a GM gets to walk into a position where he already has a potential franchise QB.
My two cents. Most GMs dont hire their coaches by the way guys. It isn't an NFL standard.Sippi, Sumlit, BlameItOnTheHenne and 1 other person like this. -

This is Armando sour about Philbin being retained and Ireland getting canned. Florio reports everything Armando writesFin D likes this. -
I think this is going to be a very attractive job around the league. Great cap shape, coach who can be scapegoated in years one or two to buy additional time, owner who refused to fire previous GM despite missing the playoffs five straight years, young potential franchise QB, good pass rushers...

There's absolutely maliciousness behind this being released, but there's really no reason not to believe it's true.
There is a pretty clear and plausible connection of dots here based on the relationships behind the scenes. Ireland and Philbin didn't get along, Philbin and Aponte did, and there was some ****-smearing going on in the "investigation" after the season.
There's absolutely a fear that Stephen Ross could say or do some dumb **** in regards to Philbin and Aponte that would turn off GM candidates. -
It seems to me that the SuperGM thing might have been explored specifically because of Ireland's presence and Steve Ross' intention to get Ireland to accept a change of duties to where he doesn't have final say.
Now that Ireland is out it may well be that Ross is now just looking for a GM.
But that doesn't make me feel better about the organizational structure as you still essentially have four department heads reporting to an absentee owner who is too busy with his other businesses to keep an eye on the departments. -

"No Steve. I don't want a higher paying prominent job that I'm guaranteed at least 3 years in where I'll pay no state income taxes. I'd rather be buried down here in my current organization and wait for the Packers, 49ers, Steelers, or Giants GM job to open"
That will not be said by any of the people being interviewed. Miami will have their choice here. IMHO of course -

This is pure rubbish. The Dolphin position offers a potential GM the hardest pieces of the puzzle to find with no strings attached. If Philbin and Tannehill prosper the Phins will prosper and the new GM will get credit. If they fail, well they weren't his guys and he will likely get to hire a new HC and draft or trade for a QB. All the glory and none of the blame, what's not to like.
And Aponte being a deterrent is just plain silly. She is a capologist and by most accounts a damn good one at that. -
-
-more money
-more responsibility from their current job
-a promotion from their current job
-stepping into a job with a relatively long leash (at least 3 years)
-the opportunity to turn this back into the respected organization it once was
This isn't a head coaching vacancy where > 5 positions open up every year in the NFL and another countless number open up in NCAA. And a HC is a much more riskier position. If you fail, you're on the hot seat in year 1 and year 2. The GM will have at least 3 years to prove his success
This may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for these people. GM jobs aren't opening up consistently within those respected organizations like NY, Pitt, SF, GB, etc.Fin D likes this. -
