I know we need a TE LB possibly QB and OL is considered meh by lots of Forum Gurus like most of us.
But outside of the first rd. and thinking more of 2-3 years down the road believe that when creating a new level of competency for our team The OL is IMO critical,,, ya ya I know its not your everyday star recognition position but can and is just as important to actually make those star quality guys we all want to watch.
Anyway thought that this was an interesting view and some would like the read....( and its a bit slow )
Remember You don't have to read it if you so desire.... I will not make you by using my Valcan mind meld......lol

note: the idea of a Juwan James trade
-
Obvious opinion. Dolphins can't ignore ANY position in this draft. Maybe defensive end. that would be a maybe.

Except for our 1st. pick, we probably should be looking for BPA anyway. I would say even if it includes DE.
-
Don't think WR, CB, DE, RB is critical enough to make that move...though upgrade still applicable.
Also if fall back Vea the choice would be blown away to see the FO make the JuWan James trade plus 2nd rd pick to nab say Esch...I know TE is on peoples minds but think Esch if achievable a great pickup especially with Vea and losing out on Eds, Smith, Fitz, and James ...
The 3rd rd. TE or IMO C/G Ragnow if there ...
But like you said all just Obvious opinions at this stage..... -

Plain and simple, that article was pure BS with no stats, no breakdowns, and lots of random guesses. Mike Oliva has no idea what he's talking about....the only part he got right was that the line still needs depth. That's true for all 32 teams though and we didn't need 12 paragraphs of fantasy for that to be said.eltos_lightfoot likes this. -
Your Kilgore "Great"......... possibly jumping a little ahead of yourself (not that your wrong but ya actually just don't know without a crystal ball at this time) Though over a mostly injured Pouncey a needed upgrade."
Another view from (9 year SF 49er sports reporter ) who actually has a bit more perspective possibly due to his actually watching the guy.
" Kilgore’s season was a tale of two parts. For 11 weeks, he and the rest of the offensive interior struggled to find anything remotely resembling consistency. He had some bad penalties early in the season, and at times seemed to struggle with stronger defenders.
When Jimmy Garoppolo took over, things changed. The offensive line as a whole played better, and Kilgore emerged from his funk. Some of it had to do with getting more comfortable with the offense, but really it was about Jimmy Garoppolo. He helped raise up everyone around him, and Kilgore was a beneficiary.
Garoppolo was effusive in his praise for Kilgore at the end of the season, and it would seem Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch see him as a solid short-term measure. "
Hey if needed we can just print Garoppolo across the back of #17..
Juwan James, you may be right but Gase and Co. already had him traded til the last minute (do they not see what you do )
( truth is I haven't had much faith in Gases view of OL's, but he is surprising me. )
Sitton ...now there is a Great pickup but early 30's but still excellent pickup IMO...
Asiata ..... who oh ya I remember him, hope he learned the play book this year...
Oh ya Davis ....... think it would be more accurate to have a season of witnessing some of that consistency You seemed to think he lack. Though I like the guy....
Hey don't get me wrong we have upgraded our OL to what extend truthfully we will need to see played out but think much better than the last gazillion years..... But is their room for improvement IMO without a doubt there is.... -

Isn't Gase's workaround for deficient o-linemen the quick drop back and short passing game? I don't think they want to put high draft resources in OG or OC. Now, OT, maybe...

When’s the last time they haven’t drafted for the OL?
-
Went back 2008 and we must have drafted around a dozen OL the last 10 years.
#1's Rdr Tunsel, Big Jake...Pouncey...JuWaun
Think the lowest draft in that time was Andrew Gardener in the 6th rd. 2009
Outside of first rdrs we were not that good in the picking dept...tirty8 likes this. -
last season and with that I'd like to know how you know he was starting caliber?
I never heard the playbook problem but if that's the case it's a more serious problem
than him being slow footed
With his "lack of" progress last year, and our needs at guard he couldn't
even sniff the field. I think he may actually see time on the practice squad
unless he wakes up.tirty8 likes this. -

This is the first time in a while that we could afford to ignore the OL.

You also have to remember that he was practicing against Suh a good part of the time...not too many rookies will look good in that circumstance. Tunsil sure didn't.texanphinatic likes this. -
after the Sutton and kilgore additions OL is no longer a top priority. I would say LB, TE, QB2, DT, RB, FS are all higher priorities right now.

We have bigger holes on our roster than offensive line, and taking a guard at 11 is definitely not adding a playmaker to our roster.
But, yo, have you watched Quentin Nelson play? He is a beast and probably the best guard I've seen enter the draft in years.
Tunsil - Sitton - Kilgore - Nelson - James
That is a line that you can build an offense around. I think that people that have soured on this pick are seriously overthinking it. -
-
Not the FO's plan, its clear to see.
Plugging hole continuation .......... but its much easier for me to live with since we actually upgraded and plugged the holes in the essential area of the OL with significant upgrades and not more hasbeens with cross your finger backup potentials.
But looking at your Tun, Sitt, Kilg, NELSON, James and fantasizing about that, actually tingled my toes. Only I also added Ragnow and thought about additions on the focus on defense in next years draft with this OL upgrade and that 2019 team.
Just think what that OL could do for improving RT, Drake, Gore, and CJ if acquired. That would have been my approach,, now knowing that many fans are not willing to look that far down the road....Playoffs an improvement but as a goal I think extremely limited and being an old geyser used to being in the Big Picture find more unacceptable for me, though realize many new fans haven't even had much of being Mediocre so Playoffs a plus.
Wish they took the longer approach but see what they are doing enough of an improvement to keep the blood pumping for that playoff appearance...... But their moves made in acknowledging the value of the OL was a huge step for me in giving our organization a bit more credit than past approach.
We should be adding some exciting new players from this draft, whoever they are...adamprez2003 likes this. -
My previous post states much of my view.
No one is perfect (players) and like you said everyone has a weak spot but I think these fan forums are the place for us all to express opinions on problems and ways and areas we think to get better or improve. And not necessarily see criticism as a bad thing. Because negative is always around but when its learned and over come that negative turns into a positive and growth..... -
They can ignore the OL in the draft, and they probably will. They seem to be leaning toward developmental athletes, going the route that netted them Jesse Davis.
They've shown interest in Matt Pryor of TCU, Cole Boozer of Temple, and David Steinmetz of Purdue.
They could conceivably take an OL with one of their very-late round picks, the 6th or 7th round. They've shown some interest in Will Clapp of LSU and Nick Gates of Nebraska. KC McDermott is a local guy.
I've not heard anything but given what they're interested in, they ought to be looking at Korey Cunningham of Cincinnati.ssmiami and Dol-Fan Dupree like this. -

I don’t see Hernandez there at 42 but if he is get ready to flip that house.
Don’t see him as a scheme fit. I think miamis very content with what it has on the o line right now.
I’d be floored if there was a first 2 day add theretexanphinatic likes this. -
Yall know me and my fanaticism with the OL. But think FO have exceeded Their (again their) view of OL and would be shocked if it wasn't like CK stated 6-7th rdr if at all.
But at this point wouldn't mind Hernadez, Wynn but instead see a very good TE or DT at this spot....
Though if me I'd figure out a way to get Ragnow with our 3rd pick....
But surprised that the FO did what they did for the OL and truthfully don't think they feel the need (to bad) because it would pay large dividends for a more successful future...IMO -
If James Daniels is sitting there in the 2nd round when we pick we have to get him. If he isnt we can skip the position. we would be set at center for the next ten years if he falls
-
If it wasn’t for Griffin and me thinking I have to go there at 42, I would be all about getting a fine guard prospect..
One of Daniels, Ragnow, Hernandez, Wynn is gonna be there..adamprez2003 likes this.
