Will Allen is a really talented CB, but he couldn't catch a cold, and that hurts. I'm not so sure that Travis Daniels makes the team- there are too many safeties to compete with and he's just not a very good CB. I don't think that he has the quicks or wheels to keep up with many WRs.

 

and everybody looks good running around in shorts knowing what their own offense is attempting to do. the question is if they will be able to get themselfs into position to make the plays/tackles once they are on the filed against teams they don't practice against everyday. i have better hopes for them this yr as long as they can get and stay healthy but i would still like to see another good corner brought in. atleast we have some youthful guys that show promise.

 

It does make you think that they (Tunaland) was more enamored with the current guys than they even let on... The DL was looked on as more of strength than weakness and they've blown it up in the offseason. The success or lack of success of the DBs will have a lot to do with how well this younger, more athletic DL and LBs play and how quickly the players adapt to more of full time 34 than the hybrid we've been running for several years...The bottom line is that even tho most of us think the DBs are solid, none are spectacular. I think this year, scheme will be everything related to any success we have...

 

i read that article with reserved skepticism. our cornerbacks were surprising because they weren't aboslute trash, just smelly garbage. :up:

I do. It gives the opposing offenses a second chance. I remember a dropped INT last year (not by Allen though) that would have led to a TD, and win by the Phins, early in teh season. I mean it was right in our CB's breadbasket, deep in their territory, with nobody in front of him. I'm glad he can cover, that is great. But why not want him to INT the balls as well?

Yeah, if he was talking about Reche and Givens, it wouldn't be "look at at tom brady" because Tom brady made those receivers as well :)

 

I'm just concerned our CB's looked decent only because the rest of the team was horrible. Easy to keep passing yards low when all teams had to do was run the ball and you had JT up front. I don't think teams really respect our ability (if we have any) to cover WR's and create turnovers and that could lead QB's to really attack them if the ground game goes sour.

Maybe it's the way I was coached as a CB/S, but I really put a lot of value not only in sticking with WR's but making those plays. Honestly, a lot of WR's playing against us have played better than their season averages (Braylon Edwards - 3TD's, Andre Davis - 79 yards, Hines Ward - 88 yards, 1/3 of Jerry Porter's seasonal TD's, don't even get me started on the NE, Cincy games). The one single blip I found so far was the game in London vs. the Giants which I thought was more a testament to the pressure we were applying and Eli's well-noted ability to fluster in games. So I really don't see the hubbub about our secondary. In fact, I noticed all last year, anytime a WR on one of my fantasy teams was playing against the Dolphins, I started him immediately even if it was a 4th WR injury replacement like Davis and reaped the benefits. This year, with presumably a lesser pass rush, will be the true test of whether our CB's have the right stuff or are mere charlatans.
