Two players I would love to see in this first cut, but probably won't are, Dallas Thomas and Daniel Thomas.

Neither of them have earned a spot in the top 53 and I would rather see their positions filled by players who can actually contribute during the 2014 season.

 

hope they look long & hard before they cut Armon Binns. having said that, we are stacked at WR...

The game hasn't yet been shown here in Hawaii, so I'll take your word for it. I guess he must have looked decent against the third and fourth stringers for the Cowboys, who will be out of a job in the next 10 days.

 

He didn't embarrass himself, but Shelley Smith looked much better to me.

 

Well that's his forte...run blocking (Smith). He's always been average/slightly below average at pass pro, so if you expect him to stonewall in the passing game, you'll be disappointed. Last year he was a very good to great run blocker. Whereas Thomas excels in neither.

 

I have not rewatched the game yet, so maybe I'll come around to your way of thinking when I do. However it seemed to me, on initial viewing, our best running plays early, came when running right behind Smith. Never seen him get beaten on a run block.

 

I do, and Smith played more snaps against Dallas' first teamers.

Thomas's problem to me is he looks like a Tackle trying to play guard, he plays "Tall" and loses leverage to easily to ever be consistent at this point.

I also disagree with you about Satele, for ONCE the offensive line looked like they all were on the same page, there were none of those inexplicable "whose guy was that" as Tannehill got lit up

Tho the 7:55 "Fall to the Ground" deal on Smith is one of my issues with PFF's grading, he did not whiff on the block all on his own, if one notices the DT he was not blocking picked him off via pushing him when he was coming down the line of scrimmage to pick up his man.

They are kinda missing that Dlineman do things like that, including holding the OL men to free up a man for penetration

 

Especially in the run game. Smith made some very good plays that helped to create bigger holes than we have been seeing. Now granted it was against Dallas' defensive line which isn't very good anymore but it is what it is. The protection seemed better as well. The line just had the look and feel of a pro o-line. I think if you put Smith and Colledge next to Pouncey when he's healthy I think you have enough to produce throughout the season.

 

I wonder if they try and get Billy Turner into the lineup as a starter once Pouncey is back...as long as his turf toe doesn't prove problematic.
