Dolphins' tackles among the best in the league

All good and great but it takes more than 2 players to
produce an outstanding offensive line

This time last season we had 8 rushing tds
this season we have 1

Call it what you will,poor play calling adds to the problem
but make no mistake this offensive line is a shell of what it was last season

I agree, a lot of times I feel when these ratings are calculated they are skewed to passing more so than running. If I am not mistaken, Long has not allowed a sack all season. I would be interested in seeing the metrics used to identify them as #1 and #4 respectively to see if they included running metrics such as runs to their gaps as well.

Carey has been pretty good lately.

Vernon Carey is by far and away the most underrated player on the team. It's really bizarre. The guy has been an elite RT for several years, and did a pretty damned good job at LT, but the only time you hear about the dude is when he gets **** on is in the rare instances he does give up a sack.

Last year was even worse, the guy had a knee injury and a back injury at the end of the year and didn't have a great game against LaMarr Woodley and suddenly they should cut him or replace him, which was really amazing to me.

He doesn't even get the usual UM hype around here, either. I guess he doesn't bark like a dog or act like an ******* on the field, but whatever.

Run blocking I agree.

However pass blocking the line this year is head and shoulders better than last season.

I'm not 100% sure, but I am pretty sure we have more passing TDs this year after 5 games (helps offset some of the difference in rushing TDs).

The glaring issues with Carey throughout his career have been his weight problems. That one thing right there has contributed immensely to his nagging injury history. If big Vern could step away from the buffet table he would be an unstoppable force in this league. I think this is the rub with him and why he is not exactly what you would call elite.

Jake Long doesn't have a weight issue? Why does he get nagging injuries?

We'll see how well those stats hold up this weekend.

I don't know you can call it a nagging injury history when I don't think he's missed a start due to it in his career, nor can I ever remember him having performance issues besides last year.

Also, I don't know how you can not call him elite. Who is a better RT than him? Right now, he's ranked #2 behind Kareem McKenzie on PFF, in 2009 and 2008 he was #3.

How can you be underrated yet one of the highest, if not the highest paid players at that position??

I would say whatever he does he is expected to do....or he would be cut...alla Smiley and Grove...

Couldn't tell you but what I can say I've heard Carey say so himself that he has weight issues and it creates problems in his game. The man knows it yet still can't control it. Although it does look like this year he has managed it better by the watching him. He seems quicker and more mobile.

Underrated, underappreciated, whatever you want to call it. The dude has been here a long time and gets almost no love from fans. He's better at his job than Bell probably is at his, but Carey doesn't get anywhere near the love Bell does. He certainly gets more unwarranted remarks than his play deserves though. The guy may be the 3rd best player on our offense, but I doubt most fans would rank him anywhere near that.

Our inability to pull is one the reasons why we can't generate TDs. Counter is Rickys best running play, but since we can't pull, we can't execute it. Short yardage wise, it was our bred and butter. Same thing with Wildcat, not being able to pull plus lack of passing threat = useless cat.

I have absolutely no problem with Carey at all...I love the man's talents, does he laspe from time to time...sure who doesn't...but anybody who has a problem with the bookends of the Dolphins O-Line is nitpicking IMO.....I just dont think he is underated...I think he is as steady as they come at RT....and is paid like it as well...

him getting in better shape helps him, however the injury part is just the realities of being a lineman. Any lineman who has played more than 4 years in the NFL has nagging injuries.

Hats off to Joe Berger who is ranked 11th among Centers in the league. He may not be great, but extremely solid in my opinion.

Carey is just consistently great. Dude is one of the best in the league and no one talks about him.

He was 14th last season if I recall correctly.

If there are problems along the offensive line, you can't point a finger at either tackle. They are good but they can't play all five positions on the line. The rest of the line has been fluid all season and that doesn't help the running game. Once those positions are set and they have time to develope a chemistry, hopefully the running game will catch up.
