All good and great but it takes more than 2 players to
produce an outstanding offensive line
This time last season we had 8 rushing tds
this season we have 1
Call it what you will, poor play calling adds to the problem
but make no mistake this offensive line is a shell of what it was last seasonfinyank13 and MikeHoncho like this. -
I agree, a lot of times I feel when these ratings are calculated they are skewed to passing more so than running. If I am not mistaken, Long has not allowed a sack all season. I would be interested in seeing the metrics used to identify them as #1 and #4 respectively to see if they included running metrics such as runs to their gaps as well.

Carey has been pretty good lately.

Vernon Carey is by far and away the most underrated player on the team. It's really bizarre. The guy has been an elite RT for several years, and did a pretty damned good job at LT, but the only time you hear about the dude is when he gets **** on is in the rare instances he does give up a sack.
Last year was even worse, the guy had a knee injury and a back injury at the end of the year and didn't have a great game against LaMarr Woodley and suddenly they should cut him or replace him, which was really amazing to me.
He doesn't even get the usual UM hype around here, either. I guess he doesn't bark like a dog or act like an ******* on the field, but whatever.MarinePhinFan, Trowa, RevRick and 6 others like this. -
However pass blocking the line this year is head and shoulders better than last season. -

We'll see how well those stats hold up this weekend.

Also, I don't know how you can not call him elite. Who is a better RT than him? Right now, he's ranked #2 behind Kareem McKenzie on PFF, in 2009 and 2008 he was #3. -

Our inability to pull is one the reasons why we can't generate TDs. Counter is Rickys best running play, but since we can't pull, we can't execute it. Short yardage wise, it was our bred and butter. Same thing with Wildcat, not being able to pull plus lack of passing threat = useless cat.

Hats off to Joe Berger who is ranked 11th among Centers in the league. He may not be great, but extremely solid in my opinion.

Carey is just consistently great. Dude is one of the best in the league and no one talks about him.

If there are problems along the offensive line, you can't point a finger at either tackle. They are good but they can't play all five positions on the line. The rest of the line has been fluid all season and that doesn't help the running game. Once those positions are set and they have time to develope a chemistry, hopefully the running game will catch up.

 ha, I thought this had something to do with form-tackling and helmet to helmet hits....everything else NFL related this week is...so thought this thread did as well.

Vernon Carey:
Offensive Line
Year Team G GS
2010 Dolphins 5 5
2009 Dolphins 16 16
2008 Dolphins 16 16
2007 Dolphins 16 16
2006 Dolphins 16 16
2005 Dolphins 16 14
2004 Dolphins 14 2
If that's not a model for consistency I don't know what is. Hell I don't care he's got a gut...makes him harder to move in the run game.
