I think comes down to a fundamental dilemma, can Miami fix their issues without rebuilding, yet always thinking of the future? Let me address the future part, by drafting a qb in round 1, in a draft filled with qb's. The first thing, fixing this team without rebuilding, involves shedding salaries and building the trenches. I think this idea has a heartbeat because of how the Rams and Eagles built their lines, and how that enabled their qb's to thrive, thus maybe hiding some holes on the team. What needs to be admitted, is Eli sure "knew" how to throw to WR's, which we have a ton of. I recall a season or two with OBJ and Cruz, or am I imagining that?

 

But don't you think globally, Miami would be in play for Brees or Cousins anyway? Isn't this the reason Miami has the advantage of the backloaded contract after 2 years of the new deal? Miami protected themselves by signing RT early and avoiding the 5th year option. $15M cap savings next year, and in 2019, it is more. Look, all options needs to be looked at.

 

The article is inaccurate anyways...Manning wasn't benched in favor of Geno. Mcadoedoe wanted to get playing time to Smith and Webb to see what they have before off-season..

As to Manning here...17 isn't gonna have any setbacks and I wouldn't take Manning over Ryan.

look, a non story now, but don't discount in the future the Peyton/ Gase relationship, and wha that means for Eli. I think we are all convinced Gase was overrated on Peyton's resurgence, but he was still there, and Peyton likes him. Also, Eli will be highly motivated next year like Peyton was, and, he knows how to beat Brady.

The article to me sheds light in that Miami could be in the market for a vet qb, which I posted a few days back, in addition to drafting one. Miami can't expect to plug and play, even with Tannehill. the fundamentals of the line need to change. Is Pouncey healthy enough? Is Tunsil a T? What about the guards? In this league, guards are just as important as tackles and really if you have a glaring weakness anywhere on the line, defenses are smart enough to exploit all day.

 

yeah no one will admit it. But Eli getting hurt ruins their chances to get something in return on draft day, unless he is a FA?

aside from Manning, this team can't assume RT will have no setbacks. It was that mentality that caused us to scramble in the first place

 

terrible idea. He would get killed behind this Oline. until we fix the Oline, any immobile QB will be completely ineffective on this team.

2016 - Present Eli Manning is a terrible QB. He is done. Cutler is better.

 

Love all the hate for something different. More of the same seems the way to go. I believe Peyton was done too, and in worse condition than Eli, but Denver went to two superbowls

 

Even the article states this only makes sense IF there is a Tannehill injury/setback. So we should trade for a more expensive QB to be there just in case Tannehill can't go? No way this makes sense unless we get info preseason that Tannehill can't go... AND if we get that news, and go the Manning route, we will still be stuck in salary cap hell.

 

Eli would be a great fit in Jacksonville, not so much here.

Eli in Jacksonville has a much better supporting cast, an upper tier running game a better OL and a much better defense.

Eli hasn’t had even a resemblance of a ground game or protection in years, so it wouldn’t shock me if he played well there.

What on earth would be his motive to come to Miami?? And what would be Miami’s motive to put him in a situation he has failed in?

I really do not see a scenario where Eli makes any sense whatsoever.

I mean if you know u want to move on from Ryan (reports say the opposite) then perhaps it makes a little sense for Miami assuming they are 110% taking a Qb in the draft. Even then, why the hell would Eli want to come to this **** show?

Surprised this rumor has even reached a national level.

No one is "hating" the idea because it is different. They are hating it because Eli is terrible. Eli is not Peyton. What worked with Peyton will not work with Eli.

If you want to move on from Thill, then bring in Cousins. Draft Mayfield and do whatever you can as Gase to convince Peyton to help mold Mayfield.

Fix the line and draft a young QB we can have for 15 years.

Eli is awful.

His team is tanking for a QB because Eli is done. Maybe Eli goes to Jax to reunite with Coughlin, but only because Bortles is equally bad. Either that or he retires before most of the world realizes just how bad he is.

The real story is that this signals strongly the Giants will draft a QB high, and maybe that they are isolating a particular QB as we speak.

You are all aware Eli had no line and no WRs right?
Last year with a semi healthy team he threw for 4K and was 26/16. I don't know, those numbers kind of sound familiar.

Look to me, it's not about Eli, as much as it the veteran qb. FinD did mention Cousins, so yes to that sort of thinking. AND drafting a qb. You may not get Cousins on a short deal, which is what Miami could want to develop the rookie faster

 

This idea really doesn't make much sense at all. At this point in his career, Eli is a stop gap guy. A team would probably sign him and draft a QB. If we were going down the path of signing a vet and drafting a QB, why not just let RT be that vet.

Eli to Jacksonville makes too much sense.

 

It is amazing how the experts miss so often isn't it :) they were talking of him being a great LT.... perhaps he is not working as hard as he should. I was hoping they would start him there last year instead of making him learn a new spot, perhaps that set him back a bit.

 

I'm completely confused now. What is your end game with Eli? Are you looking at going for Eli as a replacement for Tannehill? If so why? Tannehill in his last full year gave you almost identical stats to the ones you are putting out from Eli, and he is much cheaper. Are you wanting to bring him in just in case Tannehill gets injured or has a setback? If so are you really wanting to burn 40 Million cap space on the QB position? Are you wanting to bring him in to play till a rookie QB is ready to go? Again, if so why? We can have Tannehill do the exact same thing for millions cheaper.

Cousins is going to look for a big payday, and he is going to get it. So you better be sure Cousins is your guy before you pull that trigger. If you have any doubts that he might not perform CONSIDERABLY better then Tannehill with our surrounding talent you might want to avoid this move.

I actually like Cousins if I thought we could get him on a team friendly deal and we pulled the trigger I wouldn't be too upset. I'm not sold that he is better then Tannehill by any means, but sometimes a change is needed for both sides. The reality is, why would he give us a team friendly deal? There are other teams that are desperate for a QB that will throw 23 mil a year for Cousins, he isn't coming here for 17.

 

If he's not sticking with the Giants, Jacksonville is the only team that makes sense for Eli. It would be both a waste of his time, and the Dolphin's time/money to bring him here for 1 to 2 years. Drafting and developing some QBs to put behind Tannehill should be the goal.

I think it's still a little early to proclaim that Tunsil can't be a great tackle. He's had to endure a lot. Starting with learning the G position. Working with a new oline coach. Three different QB's. Numerous olinemen including center's.

His talent is there to be a really good tackle.

 

This is exactly what I was going to point out. An immobile QB would be the worst possible fit on this team.

Eli rode the gravy train of his last name and good teams. He is a Brad Johnson of Superbowl winning quarterbacks. A quarterback who is O.K. but gets elevated due to his last name and his team success.

He is one of the reasons his team is 3-8.

So, dear god no. Please do not sign this mediocre quarterback who is too old.

 

i could be swayed on a 2 year stop gap if the following happened.

1 the team trades ryan for at least a 2nd round draft pic (top) and another pick in the draft.

2. the team uses there number one to draft or move up and grab whomever gase believes is a true franchise qb.

3. They invest heavily on the offensive line in the next 2 years through mix of free agency and draft

if they would do this i’d be ok with eli for two years to groom a young QB.

 

The whole basis of the post was on Tannehill not being able to return due to injury. Since we see him running around the filed pre-game and tossing long passes, I just don't foresee that as a possibility a good eight months from now.

I said last year they should not start him out at guard and should keep him at LT, so if your point is valid (and it could be) it is on the coaches for screwing him up.

 

Yeah, I had a hard time agreeing with moving him over to G too. I hope it didn't ruin him.

However, he only did it for a season. And not a full season because Albert got hurt for a few games if I remember correctly.

I still believe he can be a very good, long term tackle. Will he ever be elite? Who knows...
