I don't care either way. I just wish Goodell would just leave it alone though.....constantly changing stuff is getting old, if it aint broke don't fix it.
It changes kickers, point records, incentives etc.Boik14, jdallen1222, MrClean and 2 others like this. -
Normally I agree with the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mantra, but extra points are basically automatic now. There's no point in having them.

And although rare, sometimes kickers do miss extra points and it could decide a game.dolfan32323, Ophinerated, ToddPhin and 2 others like this. -
I think they should look into changing it in some fashion. There's no reason to have multiple plays in the game where the outcome is essentially pre-defined.
Move the line of scrimmage back or something at least.Mile High Fin likes this. -
It will not be easy for him to get this rule approved though so let him say ridiculous things. I'm guessing he will flirt the idea of removing punts too. In that case you might as well just say "we want to cut player salary for the owners can profit more". Removing the kicking game is removing tradition from the game, it's been part of the game for more than a century. The 2010 rule change was more than enough, most kickoffs are touchbacks. Leave it alone.

Yeah, I saw him interviewed by Eisen on NFLN last night. He said something like you get seven points for a TD (extra point already included), but can go for another point (8). But, if you don't get it, you lose the 7th point. WTF?! Stupidest thing I think I've ever heard.
In the same interview they discussed the expansion of playoff teams, and how that would work. Goodell suggested playoff games played on Friday night, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday night. God Lord, can you say over-saturation?!
They are slowly but surely ruining this game. And, it's all about that almighty dollar. :pity: -
Lets just eliminate the kicker. And the punter too.
-
They are an absolute waste of time as they are right now.
This past year the success rate on PATs was 99.6% Out of 1267 PATs 5 were missed. I am not sure if any of those were blocked or just outright missed.
I think the best suggestion is to have the player who scored the TD have to kick their own PAT. Either that or move them back.Mainge likes this. -

Why not? The time it takes to kick the XP, they can fit at least one or two more commercials. No point going TD>XP>Commercial>Kick Off>Commercial>1st Down.
Eliminate the wasted time and make more money commish. Why not? You can even say it is for player safety.unifiedtheory, Mcduffie81, Mainge and 1 other person like this. -

Put it on the 20 instead of the 2 if youre going to kick.
-
I think they should kick it from the hashmark (left or right) instead of down the middle. It'll add a slight degree of difficulty. Extra points are missed from time to time... yes it's rare, but those misses can impact the game. I can recall a Dolphins game back in the 80's where one was missed at the end of the game and the victor won by one point. I forget who or what though because I'm getting old.

If you eliminate the XP in my opinion it should be mandatory teams go for two from thr five yard line or something.
-
Have them free kick from the 20 yard line on the sideline of the opposing team's bench.
-
-
-
Eliminate the kick, and change the 2 point conversion. A successful run into the end zone is 1 point. A successful pass is 2.
-
I'm not sure the point (pun intended) in doing away with the XP. Is there really anyone complaining, "Dammit they scored again now I have to sit through one of those boring XPs!!!" I can see tinkering with the rule to make it more challenging but its always been a part of the modern game so why change it? I bet this idea started when Brady had to hold for the XP try against Indy. Don't want Tommy boy ruining his nice manicure on an XP try.

I'd move it back to the 23 yard line, making it a 40 yard attempt. That isn't a gimme and would add some excitement.
As others have noted, I think this is more financial than anything else. Just another way to squeeze in more commercials. -
-
I never really thought about it, but I do realize that I often fast forward through extra point attempts with my DVR when I'm a behind the live telecast (I usually try to be behind so I can fast forward through at least some of the commercials). So I can't say that getting rid of a play I so often avoid watching is such a horrible idea.

Look, I'm a purist. So, I get a little uptight when those that are put in a position to preserve the sanctity of the game start talking nonsense like this. It may seem like a PAT is a given, or automatic, but it is not. As has been pointed out, plenty of games have been determined by a missed extra point. Or, put it this way...a game that ultimately that could've been won or tied had a PAT not been missed earlier in the game has come back to bite the team that missed it in the end.
I'm guessing the level of concern over this matter is probably generational. Probably more of the younger fans would embrace some kid of a change similar to what our good commish is suggesting (records be damned). But, not me.
