Weddle's agent just showing Chargers that they should spend the money.
-
I'd rather gamble that Delmas stays healthy and use the money on Mathis. Overall, that would push us much farther ahead.

This confirms our one season ending injury we get every year before the season starts. Seems like we have one of these every preseason. I wasn't a believer in Delmas, but I still has hopes for him.

Mathis >>> Weddle as far as need.
We have solid safety backups, imo. Certainly they don't bring the stability, knowledge, and playmaking ability that Delmas does, but I would take Thomas or Atkins as starters over either of our OG's at this point. I'll take my chances there. But, OG? We need Mathis by a mile more than we need Weddle.the 23rd likes this. -
I would rather have Mathis for sure but if it was possible to sign a guy like Weddle, that would be awesome.
-
**** that guy.
One of few people who has me blocked on twitter. He was representing Sean Smith, Smith got beat for a TD where he clearly misread the route, he tweeted that it wasn't his fault, I tweeted screen shots at him showing that it clearly was and he blocked me lol -
While much more unlikely, I'd rather pay for Weddle than Mathis. I'd rather have the guy who'd be 30 all season that would give us the best safety duo in the AFC (possibly the league) who is a long-time team captain and has a knack for game-changing plays....than the nearly 34 year old who just pushed himself out of a city and is at a position of "lesser value" in terms of individual impact plays. With the guys we have up front and Weddle and Jones in the back, the D would be very tough. For the hypothetical Weddle trade, it would just depend what we had to give up.

What does Eric Weddle's beard have to say on the matter?

Jimmy Wilson played all through the stretch at the end where Miami's defense fell apart. So did Reshad Jones. Michael Thomas had only accumulated 96 snaps on a part time basis halfway into the season before he went down, same for Will Davis. They weren't a big part of the defense to where you could point to their absences as being impactful.
They did miss Cortland Finnegan during some of the bad games but he's not on the team in 2015 so it's not like we've got a healthy Cortland Finnegan coming back to rescue.
Losing Delmas is a blow, one that hurt immensely a year ago. But they lost Delmas very early this time so they get to invest in replacements to try and minimize the damage, which was not the case when Delmas tore his ACL on December 7th.
