- MELVIN GORDONRB, LOS ANGELES CHARGERS
ESPN's Cameron Wolfe reports the Dolphins have interest in free agent Melvin Gordon.
The Chargers won't be re-signing Gordon, but his free-agent landing spot remains up in the air. Miami would be an obvious fit for Gordon as the most running back needy team in the league. Gordon has said he would play for the Dolphins "for the right price." Gordon turned down $10 million annually during his holdout, but his value is down coming off a middling 2019. Signing with Miami would give Gordon his best chance at an every-down role.

I'd be fine with signing him at a fair price or an incentive laden contract.
I personally feel every contract should be centered around player incentives where possible. It mitigates the risk in free agency a bit and the player can still cash in if the incentives are done right.
I'd also still want to draft a back.resnor likes this. -

It's a yes from me. If we can upgrade the O line in FA and the draft and get Gordon for the right price, what's not to like?

IMO it all depends on the contract. Gordon has proven to be a good, well-rounded RB. But he was asking to be paid like an elite back. If he was on an incentive heavy deal that the team could get out of in a couple of years then I'd be in favor. A well built team will have a mix of young and old. Having a veteran presence in the RB room would help develop whomever we bring in through the draft (I'd draft a RB regardless of what we do in FA). I see this push by some fans to just sign young players or mostly ignore FA and just use/acquire draft picks, but I would see that a mistake. You end up with a roster that lacks leadership and experience and you set yourself up for cap problems down the line if too many contracts come up for renewal at the same time.

Pass... a running back that cant get one yard at the goal line and instead fumbles the ball at the goal line to end the game, is not a running back i want to pay at a premium price.

Carlos Hyde has very similar numbers over the same time. Are we going to offer him big money? Latavuis Murray too. -

I've always rated him. An effective, explosive back, when not injured that is likely to get 8 or 10 TD's a season. And like someone else said earlier in the thread, experience at that position to help anyone that might also come along in the draft. If we can get him under the right contract, I think it would be a good move.
The stats I saw for him, show him getting 3.9 ypc in 2016 & 2017 with 10 and 8 touchdowns respectively; 5.2 ypc and 10 TD's in 2018 and 3.8 in 2019 with 8 TD's, when he spent a lot of time out of the side for one reason or another.
Like with Schobert, I think Gordon is exactly the type of talent we should be targeting in FA, seeing as we have the cap space, which can only compliment what will hopefully be a decent draft.DOLFANMIKE likes this. -
Gordon and Dobbins would be the cats meow.

I'm not opposed to paying the right back at the right time. But I don't think that Gordon is one of the top twenty backs in the league right now, and he's arguably past his prime, or soon will be. If we were going to over pay for a RB who's not elite, I'd have much rather just kept Drake!

I don't think he can get 10 -
Pass...
Gordon wants to be paid... No way he comes to play on a losing team like the Dolphins for less money.
If he was going to accept less I would think he would pick a powerhouse team where he could be in a high powered offense and get a chance at a ring. -

I don't like what Gordon brings no matter how you look at it. -

I actually like Glascow
No on Gordon
Aglohor... Okay but that would just be a waste... I think there is so much young cheap wide receiver talent in the draft.
I would be on Board for freeman if the price was right.
I like Peat also... but wonder about the price tag?
If we signed Glascow and Peat... We could roll into the draft and take Cushenberry at Center and then Prince Wanegho at Tackle and have the makings of a very solid line.
Ink Freeman on the cheap... and draft a big back like Dillon and let him pound it out on the ground for us. -
I still think that Running backs are a dime a dozen anymore outside of a handful of exceptions. At this point my feeling is you draft one in the middle rounds, use him for 3 or 4 years then grab another. From a purely business point of view, I see no value in putting a lot of capital into any Free Agent RB.
