Dolphins’ Vontae Davis matches up well with Titans’ Randy Moss

Randy Moss will make his Tennessee Titans debut today in Miami, where Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis is expected to draw the coverage assignment. If history is any guide, Davis should do quite well.
On this morning’s episode of NFL Matchup (which ESPN airs at an ungodly hour to make sure we insomniacs are the ones who benefit from the always excellent analysis), Ron Jaworski broke down how Davis has played against Moss in the past.
“Vontae Davis, the corner for the Miami Dolphins, matched up very well against Randy Moss,” Jaworski said. “I expect we’ll see that same matchup today.”
Showing film from a Dolphins-Patriots game from last season, Jaworski demonstrated the confidence the Dolphins’ coaching staff has in Davis.
“The Dolphins were obviously comfortable with the matchup,” Jaworski said. “They did not assign two defenders to Moss. Davis was on an island. He ran stride for stride with Moss.”
In the Patri0ts-Dolphins game in October, Davis shut Moss down, holding him without a catch on Monday Night Football. Two days later, Moss was a Viking. Now he’s a Titan and meeting Davis again.
“I guess he’s on a revenge tour,” Davis joked about Moss last week. “He found a team Miami has to play. He’s looking for me.”
Moss won’t have to look very hard this afternoon: Davis will be the guy who’s in his face all day.
