He made some nice throws and he was pretty efficient- good, not great. That's the question- can he be great? I don't know.
This game probably doesn't end too well if Grimes and Wake don't contribute 9 points. It probably wouldn't have ended well if Bernard and Atkins weren't injured. It probably wouldn't have ended well if Tannehill gave up a pick six on a receiver stare down that a Benglas DB almost converted at 3:53 of the clip.
The OL payed better, the running game was better, the defense got three picks- I'm very happy that we won the game, of course, but we could have so easily lost it and probably should have. Why Marvin Lewis didn't go for a 57 yard field goal to win it is beyond me, he's got a strong legged kicker that made a 54 yarder earlier.
WIth a better OL and better game plan Tannehill would be better- I saw a clip on ESPN- the Patriots offense, beautifully designed play action pass that gave Gronk a half step on 2 defenders, froze them for half of a second- why don't we do that? We lack that offensive level of sophistication, the offense is so damned vanilla- where's the deception, surprise, trickery, misdirection? How about Tannehill rolling out or- and this is on him I think- threatening to run more when he's in the pocket? He's a very athletic QB, right? Use it.
I'm not trying to be negative, just honest. Tannehill has talent and a very good arm. What he's lacking is escapability (look at :10 in the clip, Atkins is about 300 lbs- athletic I know- and stops Tannehill dead in his tracks) pocket presence and a feel for the game. He'll get better with an improved OL- but even considering the lousy OL this year I haven't seen the growth of his game this year that so many expected. I don't think that he has an elite head for the game, not close really. imo He's on track to be a good, solid Quarterback. But not a great one. -

A couple times he had Wallace open on a box slant but chose to go to the weak side... He needs to look at Wallace more often...

Guy who stood out to me was Charles Clay.
Alen1 mentioned THill does not use the middle of the field effectively, to me, it is more he rarely throws there to begin with as we see in the clip.
Liked the designed rollouts, also think the middle of the field is a bank that THill can get some sweet scoring plays from.
Would like to see more slants, DefCords have reems of film on the outside stuff, switch it up and they will be screwed.dolfan22 likes this. -

Here are my reasons:
-Kraken's sack to win...Bro I've studied him...he's never looked less in shape
-Initial contact..our guys go down easy, finding a Dolphins player driving through a tackle, or a defender sticking a driving an opponent into the ground, once again..rare
Watch THill go down, he's ragdolled
Gameday v Cinci thread..pointed out our guys were gassed in the 3rd qtr..to me it was obvious, and sure enough.
I'm not 100% on this, but am beginning to suspect much of what we've seen this year is a culmination of a lack of conditioning leading to that sort of metal armor body NFL athletes usually have during the season.
And THAT starts at the HC level and what he demands of his staff and his players.
Just want to hear your take -

OK...
That screen at :42 seconds....why we dont run that more often with both Lamar Miller and Thigpen...both of those players can make the first player miss. Then you run a bubble screen...thats the play NE ran all the time with Wes Welker....its like stealing. Why dont they run that more often. -

Drag routes, crossing routes, out and ins, stuff like this we rarely see.
Personally I think Tannehill has the balls to get it done, including the RZ area the staff seems mechanical to me, and does not see what they have in a lot of ways.
Would love to see a tonne of Holmgren/Favre "no more rocket balls please" momentsmaynard likes this. -

2. All I have to say about our offense and deception is "Go" or Go Go" -

Here's my frustration with this offensive coaching staff and GM, you implement a serious timing based offense, you strictly develop your Qb to stay in the pocket regardless if he's deadly going to both sides, you call plays that keep him in the pocket, you know protection of your Qb is at the most importance, you make the decision that your not going to move the pocket, yet you rollout that offensive line and think it's gonna work efficiently.....come on dude..that sh@& ain't gonna work...on top of that our Qb is not that dangerous when the pocket breaks down..
Now we can blame the GM for thinking that clabo, Martin and Jerry would be good enough, and we can blame the staff for not recognizing their not very good and not do anything to help The inadequacies.
Were four and four, and that's pretty good considering some important variables like new coach, 2nd year Qb , I'm just pointing this out because I can't quite make sense of it,and it makes me realize how important building a very good offensive line will become this offseason. -
To me that clip shows a QB who has had his confidence rocked by poor protection, someone who is intent on getting the ball out ASAP. His poor throws are missing by a wider margin than they were earlier in the year and he looks like he's hurryinh through his throwing action, when in the first 2 or 3 games he was taking an extra heartbeat to get himself set properly for his throws. For Tanny to get take the next step up he will need more consistent protection.
