It's hard to think of an October game as that meaningful. After all, the Dolphins went 2-4 to start in 2008 and finished 11-5, with a much easier schedule, but still.
However, I guess the fact that this is a home game in the division in primetime again. Losing back to back home divisional games in front of millions of people going into the bye week could be a killer.
A win is crucial for more than just staying in 1st place with the Jets, it can show that this team can bounce back from a loss that was so close to a win, and get an actual win a week later. It's also a big game against an elite team. We've tended to lose these games the past 2 years. 2009: Chargers, Saints, Colts, Steelers, Texans, Titans. 2008: Patriots the 2nd time, Ravens. So far in 2010 they were able to take out the Vikings, a game we probably would have lost last year. They were hurting, so beating the Patriots could signal that the Dolphins can finally beat the best in a crucial situation.
Also, the rest of the NFL is very muddled. Chiefs and Bears are the only undefeated teams(after tonight maybe only KC), and big playoff teams like the Colts, Chargers and Bengals are 2-2. Would be nice for the Dolphins to move above all those teams.
Everyone would take 3-1 going into the bye & coming out rested with momentum on the road in GB, which suddenly doesn't look too intimidating. If the Lions could come within 2 points, the Dolphins could win it. But it's amazing how big one game is. A loss would be 2-2, 0-2 in the division, 1-2 in the AFC & an extra week of feeling like crap. By the way, can you believe that after tomorrow 4 games will have been played already???

While big, it's not the end of the world if we don't win. There is still plenty of season, and I really think our 'phins are going to look really dangerous from week 7+ on. I don't know why I get that sense...I just do.
A loss, would suck..but we can bounce back.
A win, I think would be huge...for confidence and momentum heading into the bye. -
depends on how you view it, for the division its a pretty meaningful game. if we lose this game it will be tough to have an overall winning division record by seasons end, but with so much parity in the AFC right now, it doesn't mean nearly as much playoff wise.
Current AFC Division Leaders:
NYJ: 3-1
Ravens: 3-1
Texans: 3-1
Chiefs: 3-0
Then you look at all the rest, and there is 1 team at 3-1, 5 at 2-2 and both NE and us at 2-1. So even if we lose we're in a group of a whole heckuva lot of teams at 2-2 with only 2 others teams ahead of us for a 'wildcard' spot
it's ridiculous to be thinking in terms of wildcard spots right now with only 3.5 weeks completed, but it just goes to show that at 2-2 we would certainly not be down and out by any means.
that said, I really hope we win this bc it will give our team a big confidence boost to go into the bye at 3-1 with some tough games aheadDePhinistr8 likes this. -
Anytime it's a division game, it's a BIG GAME. We really need to win this so we can keep pace with the Jets. It is not a must win game, but one we really need and one that would give us some respect.
-
It's pretty big. We win and we're 3-1 going into the bye with a 2-1 divisional record and feeling good. We lose, we're 2-2 and 1-2 in the division and losing back to back home games against the division in primetime. That would not feel good at all.

I think the losing of 2 primetime nite games heading into the bye could be very damaging to the season on many level's..Heat season starting, cane's comin on, dont think you'll see another sellout at home if we lose, and that's damaging to a franchise...

As for the Game, as close to a must win in Gm #4 as imaginable.
But there are 12 more to go, I'd just hate to see the forum chew on a loss for the two week bye..that would be a huge suck.RickyNeverInhaled likes this. -
Must win.
We have a brutal next few games after the bye week.
If we can't beat back-to-back divisional opponents at primetime at home, we aren't a playoff team.RickyNeverInhaled likes this. -
+1. -
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I will be rooting for a Miami win tomorrow. I don't think much of the Pats' one-dimensional offense and we all know how bad their defense is. The Dolphins next couple of games is unbelievable. Hopefully it's a good game, though.

This game is a very important for the fish after the game last week this should be a great game as long as that kicker can move a little quicker, enjoy the game. Go Dolphins Go

Jets are # in the AFC regardless of the outcome tomorrow. I love it.

OH by the way, I know I said the Dolphins would be 0-2 in the division with a loss. I just expect the Bills to get swept by every team in the division, which cancels them out haha. They still count for AFC record though, so they're good for something.
I think it's big cause we should beat the Patriots at home. Dolphins have done it plenty of times. They did with worse teams vs. the Patriots in their super bowl days a few years ago. The current Dolphins have proved they can hang with any team, but they need to prove they can beat them consistently. They started with the Vikings on the road, and I know they've split with the Patriots the past 2 years, but it's still a big win regardless. 2 wins over "elite" teams in 3 weeks is huge for the psyche.
By the way, it's official, the Kansas City Chiefs are the last remaining undefeated team and week 4 isn't even over yet. 1972 Dolphins are shaking in their boots! (Imagine if the Chiefs do it...I'll hate that I typed this.) -
This season is weird as hell in terms of w/l. This season is totally up for grabs for any team to win a SB. -
Crazy season so far. -
Hell no, I'd be shocked if KC won. Especially since the Colts just lost to the Jaguars and are 0-2 in the division which puts them in last place. They are going to be PISSED.
-
But KC?
Naahh...:wink2: -
I dont think it has huge playoff implications as there are still 12 games left lol. I think its huge in showing how far the dolphins have come. If we can beat the patriots by 7 or more I would be ecstatic at simply the thought of our level of talent and still remaining potential.

Given whats coming down the pipe after this game, i'd say we need to win this game. I said before the season if Miami can go 3-3 in our first 6 games, we're going to be alright. Now starting off at 2-0 makes that pretty reasonable, but these next 3 games are very crucial to our schedule.
-
I looked at the schedule before the season started and figured i would be happy with 5-3 first 8 games. going into the bye week 3-1 is a very great chance for that or even better.
When you look at 08 when we started 2-4, luckily finishing 9-1 to finish the playoffs, then last year we started 0-3. its just really tough to get out of those holes. being 2-2 is much better than being under .500, but we need this huge win to not put ourselves in position to be in a hole again and it will also give confidence to go into the bye week for a tough road game. If they win this game we as dolphins fans honestly cant complain about starting this schedule with 2 road games then 2 homes games against the pats and jets 3-1. god i hope they play to their potential!!!! -
Last weeks drivers seat, to now having to beat the Patriots merely to keep pace?
Tonights game is hugely pivotal.
Winning erases last weeks emotional loss, puts us back on track with a new head of steam, re-energized, and confident entering the bye.
Losing only compounds the Jets loss, boots us into the bye week on a two game losing skid, rife with unsettled emotions, and on the brink of an untimely tailspin.
Make no mistake, tonights game is paramount to our season. We need momentum, and a s}{i+load of confidence out of the bye, to carry us into our toughest stretch.AbideN703 likes this. -

I think this team can blast the patriots! Bring the heat Miami! Huge game..."Hopefully all the friends are there on Monday Night"!!!

I need to see Henne manipulate defenders with body movement, pump and shoulder fake's, and some better foot work to get his feet set, and be able to execute these tangible's while making his read's.....These are the things that Sanchez is doing very well right now that I don't see in Henne yet, Sanchez is playing with quick tempo while he's manipulating defender's...
Iam just worried as hell man...
I could go from all fan, to becoming all Personell for 2011 after this game. -
I see a high scoring game where we pull out a win.
