Everyone has been talking up Fallout 3 for months now. I've never played a game in the series, so I don't really know what to expect. I usually don't play single player games unless they're open world with a ton of things to do aside from missions, and I understand that this game is open world. My question is, what can you do besides checking out the scenery, helping / killing civilians? Is it comparable to Fable 2 in that aspect?
Another question: Game has been compared to Oblivion, another game that I've never played yet always considered. It's only like $20 now, do you guys think I'd like it since I'm addicted to Fable 2?
Thanks in advance from your favoritest Jamaican in the whoooooooole world. (aside from Sanka)

First of all... No Jamaicans come close to Sanka. Second, you can do anything in Fallout. Any thing. Rob people. Break into houses or stores. Hack computers. Take over networks and robots. Kill anyone. Do or not do anything. WAY more so than Fable2. It doesn't have that social interactivity that fable has (the love and friendship kinda deal). But it has a real breathing CRAZY world. It's a freaking good game.
It's alot like Oblivion (said that on purpose cause you never played it). Seriously though, it is alot like post nuclear war Oblivion. -
For starters Fallout 1 and 2 were the original do anything go anywhere games. They were epic in their length and depth at the time, you could pick of NPC's to follow you, steal, kill, use speech skills, poison, plant dynamite on someone, pick locks, get a car, etc. Many of those gameplay mechanics are still employed today in RPG's. While I just opened Fallout 3 and am just wandering the wastes right now I expect it to be just as epic.
I haven't spent much time on Oblivion but Morrowind 3 (its' predecessor on the XBOX) was my favorite game on the system. It was absolute HUGE. It had a giant world, full customizable characters, long great story, very open ended, allowed you to play as you wanted, etc. It was just a great game with an incredibly open world.
After reading previews of Fable 1 (I haven't played 2) I was very excited to get my hands on it. Long story short after having played Morrowind I was incredibly disappointed with how linear Fable was. The interaction and time effects were cool but as a world it paled in comparison to what Morrowind gave me. Had I not played Morrowind I probably would have loved Fable...but I did and it kind of ruined the experience. -
Thanks for the posts. I'm going to pick it up!
Wish there was a BOGO deal at Toys R Us now, as I'm going to buy Fallout 3 and Far Cry 2. -
I want to get this game. I only played a little of FO1 and 2. I mostly played Fallout Tactics back in the day. Should I play 1 and 2? Or can I just dive into 3.

so i'm about 7 hours in right now...is anyone else not really feeling this game?
-
This is probably the most boring game I've ever played in my life. If I could find the right seal, I'll exchange it for Far Cry 2. -
thank god, i thought i was the only one noticing this. -
Game Stop is a joke, dude. $30 is what they give you for Fallout 3. The game is a day old.
Screw that. Use my method, especially if you have Amazon Prime:
1. Order Fallout 3 from Amazon.
2. Send the used copy back.
3. Take the newly sealed copy back to Walmart.
4. Exchange for new game.
5. Enjoy.
I've done this with Blu-Rays. It works. Amazon has a 30 (or 60?) day return policy on OPENED items.
I'm not a cheap dude, but the game would just collect dust. No use. -
-
Sad thing is that you only get $30 when you paid $63 for it a day ago. Combine that with the 10% from my Edge card as well as 20% towards the purchase of Gears 2, and it won't be that bad. Might throw in an old game to get an additional $10 for trading in two.
EDIT: Problem is, I've done that with my old games already. I've got Madden 09 (360), NBA 2k9 (360), Fable 2 (360), GTA IV (PS3), MGS4 (PS3), Resistance:FOM (PS3), and Saints Row 2 (PS3). Oh well. -
Getting rid of Fallout 3 so soon???
-
I think it's because a lot of the new Fallout players have never played Fallout 1 or 2. And while story-wise you dont need to.... Traditional Fallout players know that the beauty of the game design is it's open-ness. This massive world that you're exploring. You have no leads, no help, and no idea. You make your way by exploring, meeting people, and trying things. It's a huge unforgiving world... Like a post apocalyptic world would be.
I think the game is amazing. -
I got far as Megaton and started over again. found some cheat codes and now im sporting a SMG & Assualt Rifle in Vault 101. BOOM HEADSHOT! hahahha i'm loving it. -
also im an employee of a gamestop *cough*
15% discount on all games for me. I only pay $52 for new games. -
You can PM if it would be a problem to tell the "truth". -
BUT, my manager is a friend of mine from a long time ago. That's probably why i like it so much. Most Gamestop managers are *****. It's not totally their fault though. The whole company, from the top to the bottom, is forced to get a certain percentage of reserves. the more you get the better. And managers who don't hit their sales numbers are at risk of getting canned all the time. So, all in all, being a manager just sucks.
Then you get crap like Guitar Hero 4, where activision doesn't ship enough units to meet the amount of reserves a gamestop store gets, and then being a manager goes from sucky to just plain horrible. -

I am considering beefing up my PC to get this game.
-
Some people just hate trying to sell things, especially with no compensation for it. It's understandable. but then again, the big games sell themselves.Get Up And Go likes this. -
I have quite a few friends who work at Game Stop. Most hate it, a few say it's "OK"
-
-
on a side note, is there anyway to pick up and arrange things on tables and shelves like in Oblivion? -
I'm 14 hours in now. its finally getting interesting.
