So Farmer was made GM of the Browns. Chances are we were used as leverage.
Its time the naysayers and the media start apologizing to us.

Who cares? Hickey has more experience anyway
-
I mean the narrative is that all these guys wouldn't sign with us because we are so "dysfunctional", but slowly but surely the truth is coming out. Our reputation has been ripped apart by the media and many posters here and they have been all wrong so far. -
How is the media wrong?
We did get turned down by numerous guys.
Both Farmer himself, and Jon Wooten stated that Farmer was confsed by and unsure of the structure in Miami which is why he declined to interview the second time.
Now maybe he knew for 3 weeks that this was coming in Cleveland and it never leaked, but it still remains that he chose Cleveland over us.
We also got turned down by Casserio, Licht didn't even bother interviewing with us the second time when he got the Bucs offer, and Dawson who knows. He claims he was offered the job, the Fins say he wasn't. Both have reasons to lie.
Regardless, we ended up with the guy that everybody, even the most positive amongst us, viewed as the last choice.
So, what exactly has changed? Are we taking it as some sort of badge of honor that we got turned down by a guy who preferred godforsaken Cleveland?
The victimhood complex by the sunshine and lollipops crew is simply amazing. -

So us getting played by people for more salary or better jobs isn't a sign of disfunction? How many quality organizations get used by front office execs or players to increase their position or salaries? The bottom feeders and poorly run teams do, the elite ones do not.

C'mon man! It's a new day. Hickey is going to do a good job, trust me on this one. We have the right guy for Miami.
Your unilateral statements on Hickey being everybody's last choice isn't accurate.
Heck, the Dolphins may even acquire a 2nd round pick this year that turns out to be a good football player. -

But now, this piece of information, that really has very little to do with what's going on with the Miami Dolphins, somehow invalidates everything. This is the piece of news you use to try and pick up the broken pieces of your argument that the Miami Dolphins GM search was not flawed? And that there may be some dysfunction with ownership? Ok.Ozzy, Fin-Omenal, rdhstlr23 and 1 other person like this. -
Philbin is trying to build a winning team with a bunch of inexperienced coaches. I have been questioning this from day one but only recently has anyone acknowledged that it matters. I know it doesn't always. I recognize we could find a diamond and "everyone has to start somewhere". I'd prefer it not be here.
How do we "Coach up" players that need to be taught when the coaches themselves don't have the experience? It is not only fundamentals it is tradition. Knowing what works and doesn't. Knowing how to break down a player to make him the best "He" can be. So much involved.
It makes the talent level need all the higher.
It makes the game planning all the more important.
It makes in game changes all the more important. -
- Licht turned down an interview for a guaranteed job. Only in your world of bitter hate does that make it our fault.
- Farmer did the same thing it turns out.
- Dawson and the Dolphins both have reasons to lie, but you don't believe for a second it was Dawson. I mean it can't be just a misunderstanding or anything...nope, not in Haterville.
The facts are staring you in the face. -

And I notice you don't mention Casserio. Can't come up with anything good for him, I guess. -
-
I have pointed out repeatedly that we weren't turned down by quite that many people for being "dysfunctional".
- Decosta and Gamble and McGloughan turned EVERYONE down. That had NOTHING to do with any dysfunction at all.
- Caserio got a raise to stay in New England where he is shielded by Belichick.
- Licht turned down the POSSIBILITY of a job for a GUARANTEED job. He took the sure thing. That had NOTHING to do with "dysfunction".
- Dawson was never offered the job.
- And now with Farmer, it now is revealed he did exactly the same thing as Licht....turn down a potential job for a guaranteed one.
The problem is, just like EVERY OTHER bull **** hate event, like Cogs & Martin or Manning & Flynn, it was more or less media generated stupidity that you refuse to accept weren't not actually reflections of our "ineptitude".
But whatever, keep the hate going.Colorado Dolfan likes this. -
Either way, its more than widely accepted that Farmer turned down Miami. -
According to you guys and your narrative:
- Ireland sucked.
- Philbin sucks.
- Ross sucks.
- 8-8 sucks because it was under performing.
Those 4 things simply cannot all be true because #4 would have to cancel out at least one of the first 2. -

Jesus man, that was even speculated by posters here before he turned down the job. Remember when questions were being raised as to why he threw his name in the ring so late in the game? Oh I know, CK says it, its intelligent, I say it its just stupid. This is pathetic. -
And Fin, you should know by now that I do not "hate" this team. I only hate the things that keep this team from being successful. You choose to ignore them. To each his own. -
Belichick is considered gold in NFL circles and he's making all the decisions. Forget for a moment that the Pats drafts have sucked for a long time, as long as Belichick is coaching and Brady is throwing they look competent...and so does Caserio by default.
You do not love this current team. You love the memory of other Dolphin teams and you love the ideal you have ofr what the team should be, but you hate the team in its current state and have taken every opportunity to make that clear. -
Samphin Κακό σκυλί ψόφο δεν έχει
Isn't Farmar quoted as saying he was confused by our structure though? That is being completely overlooked by you with this, isn't it?
And you stating he had a guaranteed job (as GM) is speculation as well, right? I have yet to see anything saying that he had that job in hand.
I don't disagree with the overall thought process you have not his, but Farmar in particular, seems to fit the mold, especially given the amount of stuff that has come out about the process and the uncertainty surrounding it. -
This thread and every weak argument you make in it is just more evidence that you are the type of person who will never admit they are wrong. Ever.
And as to your notion that I hate this team because I acknowledge the GM search was flawed as almost every other Dolphin fan and objective person who follows the NFL does, well, it's a pile of horse ****. I cheered my *** off for this current team all season long. I sat and froze my *** off watching them play in Buffalo in week 16. Would I do that for a team I hate? Of course not. But it doesn't fit your agenda. Gonna exit this exercise in futility now, but it's good to have you back Fin. I missed all the sunshine spin.ToddPhin likes this. -
It's just a football team. It's not that big a deal. No one is out to get the Dolphins. No one outside of the fanbase thinks about or cares about what the Dolphins are doing and every piece of bad PR the Dolphins have encountered since Ross took over has been entirely their fault.
If you think everything is hunky dory, that's your right. Enjoy the upcoming season2socks likes this. -

Even if we take everything that you suggest as compeltely true, it still means we got played by at least 2 candidates WHO WE WANTED TO HIRE.
The fact that more people want to use this organization as leverage than actually work here should tell you all you need to know, but in your world, this is somehow a positive and evidence of a huge media conspiracy against the Dolphins. -

All Licht had to do to pick between Tampa Bay and Miami is look at the coaches and he knew right away which situation was more stable. He didn't need to interview. Lovie Smith has had prior success as a head coach in the NFL, even went to a Super Bowl. Licht knew right away this was going to be a long term job in Tampa. Meanwhile in Miami, if we don't go to the playoffs next year, everyone is fired, including the GM.

I kind of respect that Jimmy Haslam sensed that what he set in place with Banner, Lombardi and Chud was broken, and one way or another they just engaged a clean sweep and got them all out of the organization.
That's the thing about hiring these people who help hire more people on the premise that they're all going to get along. When in-fighting happens and it ruins the team, they start drawing lines in the sand and trying to get one another fired...it's probably a sign that all of them are rotten rather than just the one they want out. When Joe Banner and Michael Lombardi approached Jimmy Haslam one year after hiring Chud, asking permission to fire him, he probably should have fired all three right then and there. He didn't and that was a mistake. He let the people he hired convince him to let them go out and hit a homerun in the coaching search. What proceeded was probably the most embarrassing coaching search in memory.
But what they get out of it is Ray Farmer (player picker), Mike Pettine (head coach), Bryan Wiedmeier (likely will be moved back to caps and contracts) and Alec Scheiner (business ops, strong history in football analytics).
Forgive me but even though there are elements of that I hardly consider to be ideal, I do like it as well as the structure of it more than what Miami has going with Philbin, Hickey and Aponte.
Add onto that a top 5 pick which they will undoubtedly use to pick between Bridgewater, Bortles or Manziel...and extra picks in the 1st and 3rd rounds, not to mention a pretty talented roster...the Cleveland Browns are a better franchise today than they were yesterday. -
If we fired Philbin I guarantee our first choice would be GM right now - Tom Gamble. The whole interview process was a complete mess because no candidate knew what the hell to do about Philbin; they're stuck with him and his fate after this season. Maybe if Ross gave Philbin an extension prior to the start of the interview process it would have helped but Ross wanted to give Philbin another year.
-
I think it runs a little deeper and more complicated than just not knowing what to do about Joe Philbin.
These guys all know they only get one shot at the big chair. They want to make sure it's an opportunity they understand with people they trust.ToddPhin likes this. -
