There's been a ton of great movie shootouts..but which is your favorite?
My top 3 in order......
1. "The Way Of The Gun". The entire move as full of greast shootouts but th end one was FANTASTIC. My favorite part of this movie was the realistic waythat the guns were handled and the incredible sound effects (not to mention the excellent cinematography)
2. Heat (Just intense)
3. Terminator 2 Cyberdine shootout.......would have been WAY better if people had died in it...but still one of the cooler shootouts to hit the big screen.

I was thinking of Way of the gun when I saw the thread title. It was the only good thing about the movie though. Cool scene.

Oh man. There have been some good ones throughout the years.
From a Western standpoint, I really like the gunfight in Sons of Katie Elder, but the final scene in Quigley Down Under is awesome as well.
Action-wise, watching Ah-nuld handle a mini-gun in T2 is awsome, though seeing John Rambo mowing down bad guys at the end of the last Rambo movie was really good as well.
Mother of all movie shootouts though has to go to Scarface, which I'm shocked hasn't been mentioned yet.SICK likes this. -
First movie that came to my mind was Heat. Way of the Gun is a really good one I wouldnt have thought of. Might have to pop the dvd in tonight

The ending bothers me a little bit though.I didn't see the point of James Caan only crippling both of them if their just going to die there anyways. Did he just want to talk a little while longer? lol -

Not the best in terms of Wow factor for a shootout, but I absolutely love the intensity of the three way standoff with Tuco, Angel Eyes, and The Man With No Name in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
Also as mentioned before in this thread, the bar scene in Unforgiven is noteworthy too.muscle979 likes this. -

The Matrix when they infiltrate the lobby to get Morpheus back. I don't know if it's my favorite, but it is awesome IMO.

the entire "last stand" battle in We Were Soldiers was pretty good. seemed to capture the desperation of fighting to not be overrun.
also, in Black Hawk Down, toward then end when they are pinned down and taking fire nonstop thru the night, until the choppers show up.padre31 likes this. -
also liked Pickett's Charge in "Gettysburg," from the moment of George Pickett's speech, to watching them step off from the protection of the tree line, knowing they had to march a mile over unobstructed ground to get to the Yankee lines, thru withering cannon fire.

IMO, Eastwood meant Unforgiven as an ode to the costs of violence, that was the purpose of the Schofield Kid, a sort of meeting of a harden killer and a decent enough person:

Boondock Saints - A couple great shootouts. But where the two guys are shooting it out with their dad (who they dont know is their dad at the time) is my fav.
V for Vendetta - Although 'V' is using knives, I still love that scene.
Saving Private Ryan - The Beach Scene, nuff' said.
And IMO the best movie shootout evar, 'The Professional' shootout with the cops. The scene where he hangs above the door is unreal. -
