I was so psyched when we ran that screen to Cobbs and he broke it for a long one. I've always wondered why we never run screen passes much. I see other teams doing it and having success with it. I would think with Satele and Smiley, whom are both good at pulling, blocking on the move, and having Ronnie, Ricky and Cobbs, who are all good at running and catching and making something happen once they get the ball in their hands, that we would be able to kill with it. When we did finally do one with Cobbs, look at the result. I hope we do more of it this week. JMO. =)

they need to find a way to get a screen to ginn with a couple solid blockers in front of him. maybe a fake end around/screen. or even that play the pats made popular. the one where brady fakes the screen to the left, then spins around and dumps it off to the right.

I think besides having a RB and OLine that can run the screen well it takes a certain agreesive style defense to run the screen. The Texans are certainly an aggressive defense up front.

I think Ronnie needs to be involved more in the passing game to make this offense even more explosive. It doesn't have to come out of the Wildcat, it can come out of the base offense but just get him the ball somehow. I look at a team like the Eagles and what Andy Reid does with Brian Westbrook. Westbrook runs inside, outside, lines up in the slot, catches out of the backfield including screens. Westbrook has exceptional hands for a 'back and I think Ronnie is up there as well. With the ability of Justin Smiley, Samson Satele and our other Linemen to get downfield blocks as you mentioned, I think the screen pass would be a constant success for us. Here's to hoping its used. :ffic:Sceeto likes this. -
As for Ronnie, I remember when he was drafted and Gruden said he thought he had the best hands in the entire draft, receivers included. I don't care too much what Gruden says, but that was a pretty bold statement. We've used him every other way possible =) that's a good idea.alen1 likes this. -
I think it is cause we ran it too much last year that teams played it too much.
If we keep it to once, maybe twice a game it will remain effective.
