Certainly different than the "No team has made an offer" line from Chip Kelley. I don't know why the guy can't tell the simple truth that no team made an offer that he felt worth while instead of lying for no real reason. I always figured that this was the case.

No team is going to give up something for Mathis then have to pay him more money. The Eagles don't really have any leverage in a trade.

Make sense, and any trade would require a contract negotiation

If team A talks to the Eagles about parameters but does not put an offer on the table then both statements ("close to a trade" and "no actual offer").
This happens in negotiations all the time. There was probably talk about the appropriate level of compensation for Mathis and the other team thought it was a bit too high and decided to see what they could get in the draft, and got someone they liked.
It"s a difference of perspective because from Philly"s point of view the other party is just a tire kicker until they put an offer on the table.gunn34 likes this. -
Don't need him.

Yeah...I'm sure that the coaches don't know what they're looking at...people on an internet forum know better. Granted, given how the oline has been the last couple years, I can see how people assume the coaches don't know what they're seeing.

The guard play is likely going to be as poor as last season. Unfortunately you can't throw money at every position, so the guys you are paying a lot for need to pick up the slack.

Anyone who didn't see a serious need for improvement this offseason is blind.
