Yes it does, though some people go a little overboard. I think there's a difference between a good firm handshake and thinking you should try to outsqueeze the other person. A couple of times I've found myself thinking I should be challenging them to an arm wrestling match or something.

 

That happens to me all the time.

I give a firm unflinching handshake and these goofballs all try to outsqueeze me...so I apply more pressure.....he then applies more pressure....it is ridiculous.

After an interview I usually just slap the interviewer on the butt and tell him good game.

Usually I put up my hand ready to high-five and reply "Who's stupid?" and simultaneously put my hand down... leaving him claiming his own stupidity. Maybe that's why I'm unemployed.

Lucky's "job interview" is a guy in a pickup truck driving to home depot to see if anyone wants to paint a house for 60 bucks.......no hand shake involved

Lol back the topic, I learned this in Computer College Career class a couple weeks ago.

 

Seems kind of silly to give the hand shake the credit. I'm sure it has to do with the type of person who gives a firm handshake vs a flimsy one. A person with confidence will give a firmer handshake, and probably perform better in an interview because of that confidence...

 

I believe it is just saying it helps....it shows confidence rather than speaking it....actions speak louder yadda yadda

Just don't overdo it; I once interviewed a guy who squeezed my hand so hard he actually hurt me...and I'm no delicate flower.

I just kept thinking, if I hire this guy he's going to be an insurance liability because of all the broken-hand lawsuits the company will have to settle!
