John Clayton is saying Fitz is going to retire.

If true, this is the 10th time nobody wanted him. But here he was Dan Marino to fans.

Good for him, go play with all them babies and grandbabies while you can. Loved watching him play. For me he was Brett Favre on a bunch of ish teams.
I don't think he has any desire to coach, I would welcome him to the Phins in any capacity. I would love to see him as a talking head on NFL network or some such also but if I was him, I would have a kid in one hand and a beer in the other, interchangeable with a fishing pole and mama ta-ta's depending on the hour.
Thanks for the memories Fitz!KeyFin, Tin Indian, Finatik and 3 others like this. -

The stories I caught this morning say that he's "likely to retire." So nothing official yet, but good for him if he decides to hang up the cleats. Hopefully he realizes that he has nothing left to prove.

It's still unclear whether Fitzpatrick is going to retire and it's unclear whether he would want to join the broadcasting world after he's done playing. But if he is calling it quits, ESPN should be the first organization to call him up and offer him a job. He has everything they need to be their lead analyst and, as he did as a player, would likely create some more Fitzmagic in the booth if given the chance.
THATS WHAT I SAID! -
Fitzpatrick still thinks he's a starter. Obviously not since nobody wants him. Again.
He doesn't want to teach Tua and Tua doesn't want him breathing down his neck.
Just retire and get a gig where you can do silly games and interviews and look goofy with your dumb beard.Unlucky 13 likes this. -
He'll be back, maybe not with us but some team is going to be in a QB jam and he's going to be on the top of the list. My guess based on his personality there won't be much arm twisting.
The only thing I could see keeping him from coming back is if some network wants to give him a crack in the TV booth, again with his personality and also charisma and smarts, he might be a natural like Romo.resnor likes this. -

If thats the case we need to bring him back if Tua is the starter... i do not feel good about Tua and no experience behind him. It can become a very ugly and unwatchable season real quick should Tua go out with injury or doesnt take the next step (or regresses)

I absolutely do not want him back in 2021. If Tua is still the starter (assuming that we don't trade for Watson) whoever the backup QB is needs to be the clear backup, and not someone fans will call for when Tua has troubles. Fitz has way too much of a fan group with the Dolphins.
-
Can't have that again.
It's ride or die with Tua. Bring in a different veteran if they want to go that route.
I agree there shouldn't be anyone behind Tua that could challenge him for the job or for fans to beg for to come in once Tua throws one interception. -
Besides, fans are going to complain regardless...that's just noise that doesn't mean anything.RevRick, Bumrush, resnor and 1 other person like this. -
And, before you say "But it's Pat Mahomes!", there were players on the Chiefs who thought that he couldn't play in the NFL before the 2018 season.Unlucky 13 likes this. -

Fitzpatrick already proved he won't take a backseat.
Andy Reid stuck to his guy with minimal distraction and it paid off. The same needs to happen with Tua and the Dolphins.Ronnie Bass and Unlucky 13 like this. -

Just look at Tannehill- he was told outright that he was the backup. Yet he still prepped daily like he was the starter and a year later, their "starter" Mariota was off the roster and it was RT's team. Rosen had the exact same experience two years ago; Fitz struggled, Rosen was turned loose and he couldn't get the job done. You'd better believe though that both Rosen and Tannehill entered the building expecting to be the starter someday. It was their play on the field that led to two different paths.
I want Tua to be the guy, I really do. But that doesn't mean we don't need to have a QB2 that's ready to take the field at any given time. That's football and it applies to every position at every level- you prep like you're the starter this Sunday. If that makes Tua nervous then too bad...it's his job to keep that QB2 on the bench.resnor likes this. -
There's many other examples.

I dont care who we sign, alex smith, fitzpatrick, cam newton... we need experience behind Tua... we need to see results that show that this team is rising... a 7-9 or 8-8 season is a step backwards. Next year has to be playoffs and whether Tua takes that step forward or not, we shouldnt let a lone player make or break our season. And sad to say but Tua’s play next season will play a huge role on whether we do take that step forward.

Cam Newton, Alex Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick aren't making this team a playoff team if Tua doesn't succeed.
Give Tua the keys to the franchise. They have a lot invested in him. Time to see if he's the answer. -
We need to get the best backup for Tua that we can afford. If that means we sign a veteran who can provide competition or draft and develop a rookie, so be it. If Tua's looking over his shoulder and it affects his performance, he's not The Guy. If the player backing him up is that close to him in performance, we need to trade Tua, start his backup and try to obtain a QB who is better than both. I believe in the kid and think that if he's pushed, he'll play better. But he needs competition more than he needs comfort IMO.

Without a pretty good OL you won't be reliably able to score for a variety of reasons:
1) You will allow more sacks, increasing the probability of injury!
1a) No QB in the history of the NFL could run at all or throw with any effectiveness while on their back!
2) If you can protect the passer for a reasonable period of time (2 - 5 seconds), you won't be successful throwing the ball.
3) If you can't open holes for your running game, it becomes predictable and thereby, limited.
4) The teams kicking game is also hampered by lack of protection for a punter or a place kicker.
Like the old song says, (….it's one, two three strikes then your out …). Wrong sport but a very accurate anomaly.
Don't believe me?
Then quit the whining when we are forced to go three and out time after time after time!!!!!!!
GET US AN EFFECTIVE OFFESIVE LINE, not a line whose play is demonstratively offensive i.e. it stinks. -
It's a tough call when it comes to a backup QB. If your starter goes down for the season, then I'd rather just lose a lot of games and have a good draft spot. If your starter goes down for 2-4 games though? Then I want a guy who can win at least half his games played and keep the team afloat until the starter returns.
It does concern me; the idea that Tua needs to be given his starting spot and not have to fight for it. Tua needs to be mentally tough enough to deal with the crowd chanting for the backup QB -if that happens. That said, Fitzmagic will probably end up starting for the Bears or something this season. I wish him well, he gave us some fun moments.Irishman likes this. -
I want to continue to win, even if it's at a lower percentage. We can always draft a QB in any draft. No reason to wait for the next draft to be able to win. Just my two cents. The G Man likes this. -
From PFT:
Flores said today that the door is very much open to Fitzpatrick returning to Miami this season. “We would love to have him back,” Flores said. Realistically, it’s hard to believe Fitzpatrick would want to return to Miami. He was disappointed to lose the starting job to Tagovailoa, and he’s surely prefer to go somewhere where he would have an opportunity to start.
But if he shops himself around in free agency and can’t find a team that’s willing to give him that opportunity, perhaps he would return to Miami. If he does, he’d be returning as the backup — but if Tagovailoa were to struggle, Fitzpatrick could find himself back on the field for the Dolphins.Irishman likes this.
