MONDAY UPDATE (Dolphins):
In the past two years, the Dolphins have signed five developmental players in the aftermath of the Labor Day weekend deadline to cut down to 53. But that approach changed Monday, when the Dolphins signed two established backup types, one of whom should help immediately and one could if needed: tight end Dante Rosario and guard/center Ryan Cook, who also can play tackle.

Reggie returning punts against the Pats would be priceless...
-
I suspect Cook is here because they are not thrilled with Garner's development.
If it is not a AFC Championship game, a playoff clinching game, or the SB, some crazed fan should surmount the wall and slap Sparano if he puts bush on a punt return...that makes no sense at all.5thAmendment and Pandarilla like this. -

I think Sparano's reason for keeping Spitler over Edds is poor. I don't care which one is ahead as Spitler is probably our 7th or 8th LB and will only contribute a little this year. The question is who has more potential? IMO Edds has more upside.

Our 2006 2nd rounder that we gave up for Duante Culpepper has finally made his way to Miami. Welcome Ryan Cook. Good depth signing imo. I like Rosario as well. Hes a solid receiving option though drops do plague him from time to time.

Ryan Cook 2008, 499 pass block snaps 7 sacks, 7 hits, 26 pressures. 2009, 7 snaps and 1 pressure, he did not play much.
2010: 309 pass block snaps, 3 sacks, 1 hit, 10 pressures. Total 815 snaps, 10 sacks, 8 hits, 37 pressures.
Joe Berger 2009, 265 pass block snaps, 0 sacks, 1 hit, 4 pressures. 2010, 574 snaps 2 sacks, 3 hits and 11 pressures.
Total 839 snaps, 2 sacks, 4 hits, 15 pressures.
Please, nobody try to spin this move into some sort of talent upgrade. I ain't buying!!! -
As I understand it, he played outside and in.

They thought enough of him that he became a 16 game backup in 2009 and was a part time starter in 2010. In 2010 he started 6 games at RG and 1 game at C, and played most of another at C. He actually did better at C than he did at RG. He was a -0.7 at C with a +1.3 as a run blocker. No sacks hits or pressures in 97 total snaps. At G, he played 448 total snaps, -6.2 overall, and 3, 1, and 9 on sacks, hits, pressures. The final pressure must have been as a RT, because he played 7 snaps there too.
I do not consider him better than Berger or an overall depth upgrade from Berger, but with him and Garner we have two guys who can play about anywhere, though Cook has never been a LT that I know of. -
The thing that pisses me off is that they're $12 million under the salary cap and still "far apart" with the likes of Kendall Langford and Paul Soliai on extensions. In other words, they're just going to let that cap space go to waste.
They can say it's because of the poor ticket sales, they need to cut down on expenses for business purposes, but it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Ticket sales are poor because nobody is convinced they're actually trying to be a better team.ssmiami likes this. -
I dunno if Spitler is better than Edds, but neither guy will see the field as a LB so whoever can play ST better should get the roster spot IMO.texanphinatic likes this. -
