Not sure why people are hating on the short passing game so much, given the current state of our o line. Sure, we all want to see the deep passes actually connect, but If we continue to win, this will be a non-story.

 

Again.. We've been over the deep pass argument with Tannehill. I think most people accept that their are multiple reasons why they aren't using it as much.

I also believe we need to seperate the go route out of deep passing and maybe create it's own category. That is really the only pass he's had issues with.. The deep bomb. And actually if you were to further break down that one pass into.. Accurate but dropped as Wallace and Sims have done.. The percentage would change.

 

Because it's the "in" thing to do. Every other complaint they have had is gone. I wonder what they will not like once that's not an issue any more.

Gotta have the deep ball, Gotta have the deep ball. IIRC we won the division with Pennington in 2008 and I doubt if he had a throw over 35 yards all season long. Play to your strengths and do what you do best. Hard to hate on that.

When Brady spends half a career throwing short, quick passes it is "working to his receivers' strengths" and "running the system perfectly" though.

 

Got em.. Lol. It's so true too. People tend to forget Brady having "no deep ball" was a big story for quite some time. As I said, if it works, none of this will matter.

Yes, I think Tannehill would come close to that with that if he got used to standing in the pocket and going through his progressions. Brady had a heck of an OL that year and he was rarely touched.

I don't understand your point? You are talking about one of the best seasons by a QB in NFL history with a team that went 16-0. I don't know what Tannehill will do in year 6 or 7 of his career or what he would do with a WR he could just throw a deep ball to when he is double covered...

My point was that Brady didn't throw over 7 YPA until year 5 of his career and if someone said or implied he was no good because "anyone can throw short passes" it would have been pretty silly in retrospect. If anyone can just throw short passes, get 70% completion rating, 2 to 1 td/int, with their team scoring 25 ppg...there'd be a lot less QB busts every year.

I just used Brady as an example because we have all sat and listened to Dierdorf wet himself and gush over Brady tying his shoes superbly for a decade, meanwhile our guy could have an identical Brady kind of game and just gets blatant disrespect. Then our own fans co-sign it.

Disclaimer: not guaranteeing Tannehill becomes a HOF qb or anything along those lines.

 

I said it for years about the Pats...is the dink and dunk was so easy, every team would do it. Not to mention, I can't believe we're trying to compare Moss as a deep threat to Wallace. These threads are getting more and more absurd.

 

Moss was a once in a generation if not more player. He had the speed to outrun your corner, outrun your deep safety, and then the hands, leaping ability, and size to adjust to poor throws 50+ yards down the field.

No comparison to Wallace.

A significant part of it is that Wallace has dropped balls and not adjusted well or fought for balls , if he makes 50% of the plays that should be made by premium wr's this is almost a non issue. Yes RT has had his concern too , but it is not , at all , all on him.

it all comes down to the next two games, if we win both, or even one, we have a good chance at the playoffs, if we lose both, it's the story of the off-season (along with acquiring new LB's) because we'll not make the playoffs and because Tannehill needs to be resigned w/that hefty contract.

Actually if he had Randy Moss I do think he would be an elite deep passer. I think any slightly above average QB would be. Hell I think Alex Smith would be a good deep passer to Moss.

 

I don't agree with this really. Brady has never been a very good deep ball thrower except to Moss and Gronk who are physical freaks. Maybe A-Hern before he went on a gang killing spree. That tells me Brady has only succeeded on the deep ball with elite talent. Talent RT has never had. So to say he could or couldn't is a guess at best.

 

It is time to upgrade at tackle. We could use at least 1 dominate tackle that can generate an excellent package of pressure up the middle as well ad a dominate run stuffer...both Starks and Odrick are converted DE's who put on weight and muscle to play inside...it is time to draft some pure DT's and I think we should be able to find some of this type of player and have even more rotation in our D-Line like some plays we could actually play Odrick and or Starks as Big DE's.

I really like Mike Wallace, but this is the truth. There is no comparison between anyone and Moss when it comes to the deep ball. Randy Moss, when he wanted to play, was like having a deep ball cheat code.
