FOX to start framing NFL broadcasts in 16:9

Desidesforum_veteranOPIf you love football and HD as much as we do, then you know the pain that we feel when we watch a game with lots of empty field or the times when you can't see the linebackers. This is because we are HD snobs in an SD world and while football has been presented in 16x9 for close to 10 years, with few exceptions it is still framed for 4x3. The word from Cincinnati.com is that tonight it is about to change. Evidently the Patriots vs Falcons game that starts in less than an hour will have a new less obtrusive score bug and will be framed for 16x9. This of course means that SD viewers will have to watch it letterboxed. We suspect FOX will receive quite a bit of flack about this, but honestly with the HD household penetration breaking 50 percent, we have to say it is about time. Of course the majority doesn't always win against the vocal minority, but we have are hopes up that they do this time and this trend takes hold in all HD sports.

Vengeful Odinforum_veteranThis is a great step in the right direction. For me, even though I have DirecTV I don't get my locals in HD because I live in rural Kansas. At least now I'll have the option to zoom in on a letterboxed SD presentation and see what I'm missing in SD.

Yep, thats what happened in the Savannah market, which of course made it worse when they put up the stats as you could only see the Falcon side.:no:

Headcoach material wouldn’t want to work somewhere they’re not trusted with actual football decisions.
