So here we are..
Henne got benched obviously, comes back in the game he was benched for, played his worst game up until that point, but played better in the 2nd half to get the W in a very bizarre set of circumstances..
Then Gets injured, Thigpen gets the start against chicago, and the team play its worst game of the year at home..
Raider time..Coming off the injury, on the road in a hostile environment against a pretty solid raider squad.
Welcome to our world, the world of destructive special teams...6 on the opening kickoff..
Just a little extra adversity for ya Henne, if the benching and the injury wasn't enough..
I will preface these next few thoughts live and say this before I watch..I place a lot of emphasis on performance when the opponents crowd is at their Apex..I think its a great tell..Up until this point, the Dolphins have owned these moments against their opponents.
First pass, drops and throws a deep out to the opposite hash, 26 yards of Hartline.Perfect location on the ball..ball got there in a hurry...Namdi on the tackle..nice job.
Announcers say that Henne made a ''GARGANTUIN'' effort to be ready for this week''..
Also, Jake is hurt this game, they said it was a game time decision.
Were at their 35 because we got the ball back with good field position.
Wildcat on 2nd and 8, Henne comes back in and throws deep on the sideline to Hart, he's completely covered, and the ball was thrown only where he could get it..
1 for 1 on the drive, goldie locks with the 3..
Is it to early to talk Cam wake..Sets the edge, reads the run, and explodes for the TFL..That man needs a nickname..?
Defense suffocates Gradkowski, Dansby playin that bloodzone like a 250lb safety..Its so cool, thats really how he looks instinctively,I believe he played some safety in high school.
Next drive at our 35, we come out in the wildcat, with the jet sweep, we execute 2 plays, 12 yards, nice job..The dream shall continue to live.
Henne steps in, drops, waits for Bess to cross the field on Namdi 1 on one, Henne throws a laser, 15 yards complete, nicely done, they showed bess on the route, beautiful release off the LOS on Namdi..
Wildcat ON first down..Henne on 2nd, Throws a nice touch screen to ricky, then follows with a nice 9 yard out to fasano, timing was perfect, ball was released before the receiver made his break to the outside.
Henne has the team driving, and the team is playing with a spark, He drops on a hard play action and throw a deep seam route to cobbs, on this play Henne ''Feathers'' a 29 yard TD right over the heads of the linebackers and right in front of the safety, it was perfect and I wish I had a gif.
VD is gonna hurt someone one day..That boy is bad...knifes thru defenders to stick Mcfadden in the backfield right at the hip, flying bodies everywhere.
Were toying with this team at this point, raiders are overmatched physically.
Dolphins have the ball at their 10..ronnie for no gain, then ronnie fumbles and recovers, leaving Henne in 3rd and 10, Henne changes the protection, and throws a deep out to Bess for 23 yards..very well done...he must be 7 of 8 at this point.
Because of the seemingly conscious effort to open up the field and call deeper routes the backs majically have room to run, were crushing them.
Henne on a third and 5, at the LOS their 35, raiders send everyone after him, all 12 men in the box, Henne patiently waits til the last 2nd, throws it to hart on a cross for 19..
Brain fart...Henne drops, nothing open, resets, buys some time and throws a pick in the endzone, should of thrown the ball away but he took a shot..up until that point he was flawless, this was 1 of a handful of throws throughout the season, how many of those do you give a guy in his 2nd year starting is up to your theories on what is the norm.
Defense gets on the field and takes the ball away, pick by the Bullfrog...I don't see Reshad Jones taking anyones spot on this defense..nope, thats good depth though right there, and bonus special teams..me likey..
Next drive after the pic..Marshall is out, Wallace and Moore on the field for some reason..Henne goes deep on the sideline to Marlon incomplete, then get's killed on a all out blitz.
Defense gets the ball back when Dobbins lays the wood.
Henne throws incomplete to cobbs on a wheel that wasn't open..
Then takes a delayed sack, noone open on replay, he was looking at cobbs and fasano on the right but both were in the same vicinity both covered.
Mr. Sapp continues to hurt this team, and I do believe he is not a player we need on our roster anymore..He lets Ford get that out pattern on him where he turns and goes up the field for 50..Addition by subtraction..He and jason allen, goodbye.
So check it, special teams and Benny sapp make 2 bad plays and they have 14 points...lol...All I can say about that is, we know our weaknesses, these same ones have been flashing over and over thru 10 games, they needed desperately to be addressed, and I think they have been, and will continue to do so when free agency starts.
So we have ourselves an Apex situation, polite doesn't advance the squib kick, ball at our 15, crowd on their feet, lets see how it goes..
1st down..Carey false start.
1st down..ricky no gain.
2nd down..Henne threw the ball on an out to Hart, holding on Namdi one on one, if he didn't hold Hart, he had him beat on the undercut move.
A false start and 2 runs leave Henne wih a 3rd and 7..Throws a nice inside out move to bess for 20 yards, he had to wait for Bess to make the fake to the inside the cut, placement of the football is key on this play, once he cuts back to the outside the ball needs to be there at the front shoulder, it was allowing bess to turn upfield for a big gain in that situation.
Follws it up with another crossing route to Hart, simple throw, required patience again, to allow player to come free, player needs to be lead, and was, 20 yards.Henne gets crushed right after the release.
Marlon Moore drops a pass.leaving 3rd and 10..
Henne drops, they send an all out blitz, Henne throws to the sideline to Bess for another 20 yards on a very nice back shoulder throw..The man was under serious pressure, released the ball with very liitle room in the pocket.
Thow away with noone open.
Designed rollout, Bess is doubled, falls, Henne rightfully throws away.
Really tough situation..3rd and 10 crowd on their feet, Henne drops and hits Bess on the sideline for 11, beautifully done..Overall that was a nice drive from our 15..
Raiders had the ball for 9 mins in the half, Sapp and special teams has us down by 1.
Henne starts the 2nd half with a drop from Bess, than a perfectly lead pass to Marlon Moore for his glory moment..That pass was all chad Henne, about a 50 yard TD..beautiful pass.
I have a feeling that the whole timeout thing that Sparano get ridiculed for has everything to do with Henning in the booth..Its just in the way he shaes his head and looks down..
Defense comes out after that and stifles them, add Misi to the list of dropped int's..3 and out and it wasn't close..
Be excited about this defense..Be very excited.
When's the last time you felt confident that your defense could come out and force a three and out?, be honest now?
The feeling thru the midway part of the 3rd quarter is this game is over..Raider heads are dropped..
OMGOODNESS..Check this out, so the drive after Henne put us up by 6 with the Moore big play, our defense gets us the ball back in good field position..lol..Lets just say this for the laugh, Chad Henne did not take the field on the next drive..so instead of showing some killer instinct and giving the kid some confidence for his good play today, its wildcat on first down, wildcat on 2nd down and Tyler freakin thigpen on 3rd down..All this when we started the drive on their side of the field...
HAHAHAHHAHHA piss off Henning..
Are you kidding me.
They show a shot of Henne on the sideline, he was nonos happy.
3 and out of course, and Goldie Locks with the three..
The raiders are a 5 and 5 team coming in, has quit playing mid 3rd quarter because of physical domination..another stifling 3 and out.
.50 yard return by bess, yup they felt like a beaten team...
OK, boys and girls, we have ourselves a situation..Trust me on this..Once again we get the ball back, their side of the field after the big return, guess who comes out at QB..you guessed it, The QB who got killed the week before..Thats nothin, heres the thing, Henne was running out on the field too, when he got called back to the sideline, HE WAS VISIBLY UPSET, Sparano and him have some words, and Tony walks away from him with purpose, shaking his head..He was visibly upset with the play call, and seemingly embarrassed.
Henne was 14/28 250 yards and 2 td's 1 int while he steamed watching Thigpen run two option plays for -1 yards, Henne trots on the field staring at 3rd and 11...lol.
What happens, Henning calls timeout from the sideline..lol, Henne walks over perplexed and pissed off, all this is happening on their side of the field, 35 yard line..
Henne drops, looks left, looks right, fires to fasano, pass interference, good pass..If the defender doesn't hold, its 6 points, that after dealing with the circus freak Henning.
Well, that scenario just about cements the theory that we were dealing with a crazy man for a coordinator, on many levels..Way to call an offense that puts your young QB in enviable situations...
This drive is a qb's nightmare, moore on a big reverse down to the 5, carey gets called for holding, and injures jimself because hes out of shape. This puts Henne at 2nd and 16, they run the ball for a gain of 3...3rd and 15 they throw a fly route to moore who was ''well covered''...
what a disaster, goldie missed the kick.
Raiders had 4 first downs as the third quarter winds down, but has some life here, screen to MCfads. a couple of nice runs, then the impossible happens, Grankowski rolls right on a bootleg, and throws it as hard as he could {about 43 yards},Clemmons has perfect position and makes the pick in the endzone..
Hennes next drive, 1st and 2nd down runs for 3 yards. On third down I see a glimpse of our future offense, the three step drop in full affect, lets break down this play..
Wallace on the far hash, all cleared out, Henne Drops, does a lil pump fake to let Wallace get deep in his cut, and fires a deep slant pass for 18 yards...Sweet play..Henne seems to be able to throw when there is a lot of traffic around him.I like that.
2 more wildcat play on 1st and 2nd, ronnie has about 20 carries for 55 yards..
3rd down, Jerry gets beat strait up, Henne sacked..
Clemmons comes back and totally redeems himself, first play, raiders basically throw a hail mary, Clemmons watches the ball into his hands and drops it into the arms of Ford...The player needs to learn the art of the body catch..
Gradkowski is not very good, couldn't hold Hennes jockstrap..Padre stop including him on your list..lol.
we got the ball..henne makes this pretty sideline play to Hart where Hart just taaaaaaps his feet for a first down, real pretty play.
Then comes right back and makes an even prettier one..''Spectacular throw by Henne'' says the man Gus Johnstone..7 step drop, patience, waits for Bess to clear out a deep deep out, and throws the ball with touch to get it over the linebacker in coverage, about 30 yards on the fly..Best throw of the game..
We were at the 15, Henning called 3 strait runs, field goal to put the game away, that was an impressive smashmouth football drive that had great intermediate passing efficiency..
defense takes the field snuffs out a screen, strips the ball, clemmons scoops it up and housed it..The ref said the receiver dropped the ball, replay shows he caught it..
Defense stifles, Ricky runs for a 50 yard td for some icing..Thats what happens when you display the arm of chad Henne, he made all the throws with ease today.
Game was over at the 9 min mark of the third quarter.
Peace..Henne took the hit..:wink2:

The inditement on Henning in this game is not the fact that he created a package for Thigpen in the game, its the fact that he used it at the most inappropriate time, which in this case should of only been pulled out if Henne was hurtin from the injury..There was obvious frustration from both Henne and Coach..
Bess cemented himself in this game as top 3 slot men in the game, maybe 2..HeyBaldy likes this. -
And Deej, Gradkowski is on the list!
His game is mobility and he had a bum ankle iirc, and look who he was tossing the ball to, Zach Miller and Rook Jacoby Ford and that is about it... -
How often in your life of watching football have you witnesses a senile, batsh!t OC sub in not just one but two different guys for a QB who's playing well during a game, winning the game, and isn't injured? What a f****** joke.
If the military can cover up Pat Tillman's death in part to save their asses, then Henning could certainly do the same (regarding any involvement in benching Chad).HeyBaldy, MarinePhinFan, GMJohnson and 1 other person like this. -
Ditto for giving him more opportunities in FG range. That probably doesn't do wonders for a player's ability to evolve. -

I think Gradkowski could be decent as a backup if Thigpen leaves. Ironically he and Henne had opposite problems last year. Chad had no speed guys, all posession guys, and no space to throw them the ball. Meanwhile Grad had a no possession guys, all speed guys, and no arm to get them the ball. The Raiders O was much better suited for Jamarcus Russell's skillset and ours a better fit for Pennington.HeyBaldy and ToddsPhins like this. -

Henne was on Rose's show this morning, some bulletpoints:
-only watched Day 1 of the draft
-does not consider himself the starter said Sparano told him: "cut down on the turnovers and become more consistent at finishing games"
-expects a Qb to be signed
-sounds like he expects there could be a trade as well
on the QAM interview page.

In retrospect, I think leading the league in throw aways speaks volumes for his decision making growth after seeing what he had to work with and/or overcome-- no run game support which places more pressure on a QB to make plays, Hitler Henning, excessive 3rd & longs where QBs can easily fall into that mode of forcing throws to move the chains, reduced opportunities inside scoring range which can cause a QB to force throws in an attempt to make something of those limited opps, and having receivers covered up b/c few are sent out on routes. I think I had more WTF moments while watching Matt Ryan vs Zona than I did Henne over a 3 or 4 week span. -

For a young QB it's unbelievable what he had to deal with, It's amazing he hasn't asked to be traded or cut.
Thanks for reviewing these games and shedding light on Henne's play.
One thing about the offence last year was that I didn't like it, I know it sounds simple but it was like why the wildcat now when you see Henne getting on a roll, why this run or that pass, it never made sense and there was no continuity.
Thanks guys I hope Henne gets it done with Daboll.ToddsPhins likes this. -
Having said that, I still would put Henne in the "average" category among NFL QB's. Yu have the elite guys Brees, Brady, Manning, Rodgers, Rivers. And the good QB's, Vick, Ben, Romo, Ryan, Cutler, Eli etc. And I would put Henne in the next tier w/ Cassel, Orton, Palmer, Freeman, Hasselbeck w/ everyone else as below average or bad.HeyBaldy and ToddsPhins like this. -
In 1 game Ryan throws 2 bad passes right to defenders that are dropped; a thousand miles away Henne throws 2 non-bad passes that are INT'd because one receiver falls down and the other deflects it right to a safety. Ryan wins his game while Henne loses. :pity:HeyBaldy likes this. -

Henne's INTs:
1. 4th and 8 vs NYJ; last play of the game, no choice but to force the ball to Fasano
2. 1st qtr vs NE. Didnt see Ninkovich underneath Marshall's dig route
3. 2nd qtr vs NE late on check down to Cobbs, Ninkovich cut underneath
4. Miscommunication w/ Marshall on crossing route
5. 1st qtr at Green Bay; Masrhall slips on out cut, Tramon Williams gets the pick
6. 4th and 7 vs Pitt; last play of game, wasn't even an actual INT based on replay
7. 2nd qtr @ Cincy; Horrible decision floating a ball into double coverage to Hartline
8. Hartline falls on his outcut vs Baltimore, Webb makes the pick
9. Marshall drops the slant, tips it to Reed
10. Down 16 w/ 30 seconds to go, Henne forces a ball that is picked
11. vs Tennessee has Marshall on a post but the throw is off and Finnegan picks it
12. Oakland; forces ball Bess in EZ, pass picked by McClain IIRC
13. Deep ball for Hartline underthrown & picked by Joe Haden. Hartline makes ZERO effort to come back for the ball
14. Horrible force to Bess on a dig route vs Cleveland
15. Pass deflected at LOS right to a defender, bad luck basically
16. Checkdown to Cobbs who barely tries to make the catch, picked vs Buffalo
17. vs Detroit miscomm w/ Shuler on crossing route
18. Bess falls down on curl/stop route LB steps in
19. Forces curl route to a doubled Marshall vs NE
I bolded the bad decision picks and there were some bad throws in there also, but Henne had an awul lot of bad luck/circumstance INTs and very few dropped INTs. Both those should return towards to the mean in 2011.HeyBaldy and ToddsPhins like this. -
Hartline had no chance to make an effort. The ball was thrown 5 yards behind him and he was running full speed. Somehow he is supposed to stop on a dime, go backward and break up a pass all the the matter of a second?Anonymous likes this. -

It would have been a monumental feat, a true vertical receiver would have let that ball been intercepted. What you mention does not happen regularly, those ball that are that underthrown are regularly intercepted. In fact balls that are a yard underthrown are generally intercepted.
It is like you do not understand running.Anonymous likes this. -
I counted 9 int's that were clearly Henne's fault with others that I don't remember may have been (i.e. #16, #17, #4, etc.). My 9 doesn't include game ending INT's either which are debatable as to whether they should be on the QB or not.
In the end, his 19 was inflated due to WR's slipping or poor route running, but he still had AT LEAST 9 INT's that were completely on him. -
However, after what I just witnessed in oakland, I'am really only going to judge him on last season for so many games..I already know there is some strife goin on bigtime..
He's already proven to me how he deals with adversity and an unjust benching, 2 and 0 playing while very well in his last game.HeyBaldy likes this. -
On the other end, when the ball reaches the 40, Haden is at the 50 and Hartline is 4 yds behind him at the Cleveland 46. Despite having already realized that the ball was underthrown (he's already decelerating as he comes into the picture) Hartline takes an additional 6 steps, travels 5 yds further up the field, and allows Haden to make an easy INT. I'm not putting the pick on Hartline per se. If McQuistan has better pass pro, maybe we get a better throw, if Henne anticipates the pressure and slides to his left he'd have had a clear lane to make the throw, or if Hartline had come back for the ball maybe he'd have prevented the INT, a pass breakup, a pass interference, anything would've been better than the turnover. So while Henne is the only one who gets the pick on his stats, it was the failure of 3 different players which led to the INT. IMO.HeyBaldy and ToddsPhins like this. -
Henne humped the doggie on that throw GMJ, short throw caused Cornball to slow up, ball to the inside of the field meant Haden was in better position, that was a Daffy Duck pass he put up there, agree with your general theory, that one is all on Henne's throw.Anonymous likes this.
