F^%$ everyone, Hire Bowles, keep the team together with Moore at the helm, Hit two home runs in the draft, two nice free agents, and I would bet money were favored in ten out of 16 games next year, the way we were playing in the 2nd half of the season, some of the best ball in the league, we were a winning team in that long stretch, a tough team, 6 and 3 out of the last 9, now If I can get an offseason with a team that nobody wanted to coach mentality, starting with Bowles at the helm leading that sh%$, add somethin like Upshaw, then maybe trade up a bit and get Dwayne Allen, two nice free agents, like a legit #2, and a safety, I would go into battle with that team, with the the way the got respect around the league, I think we could compete for a playoff..
Lets not forget about the team that played well, and pretty damn tough, they did seem did come together, {family} their still very young, and they seemingly enjoyed playing with each other so, Anyways, I saw something that I thought was pretty cool..I was watchin JT's speech in the locker room, and I caught Bowles in the backround....... I kept watchin Bowles, not JT...lets just say that was a proud *** man...pretty bad *** one too, {dude is jacked}.. It's Just the way he stood there, and focused on every word that was coming out of JT's mouth, Idk, and I know its sounds corny but, I know that dude cares about this team, unlike people on the outside, I don't have to worry about that dude doggin it, he's gonna start in the gym at 5 am, and sleep in his office at nite, and when I watch him, I see a humility about him that I like, and a feeling that his guys will respect him, and play hard for him..Check him out.

Proud dude right???
Y'all see our schedule?? {can't find it anywhere on the internets} shoot, the way we were playing, with 4 nice additions, who impact the team, {4 upgrades the goal}, and I think there are 10 wins on that schedule..Irish is solid enough to get us those 4 guys..
So, if Bowles gets the job, and we keep it together another year, they might have a chance at a real cinderella story..
Remember, our team did not quit last year..they sent the stinkin Jets home crying and hatin on each other, while we showed class and unity, I know we didn't get it done, but Sparano and Bowles never embarrassed us as fans, and gained some respect around the league for their character...
If Fisher does not come, there is only one assistant I would sign off on over Bowles, and that is Mike Zimmer, He's been my assistant sleeper from the get, and thats because i've seen him with his players, and he's great with them, they play real hard for that cat, and, his schemes are excellent, but, beyond him, I don't see the need to change..
Maybe Ross denying that interviewto the Rams about Bowles was for a reason, maybe he sees somethin in him, where if he can't land the big boy, he knows hes got a young hungry coach in the making..

I've warmed up to Bowles tbh Deej, won't invest in him to heavily as who knows what Ross really wants to do?
He is more in the style of Lovie Smith or Mike Smith then Del Rio or Tomlin, real quite guy, high football IQ, can see what is not working from a long way away.
Downside is, we were 25th verses the pass this yr, if there is one reason pointed out for the 4th qtr losses, the pass defense folded.
BTW Deej, my boi Jovon johnson getting a workout with us soon, I'm pumped. -
I am warming up to Bowles more and more. Worse comes to worse, if he doesn't work out we can fire everyone and start from scratch. -
Is there anyway that it would be possible to land a Fisher or Philbis, etc and keep Bowles? Just curious....

I like Bowles' potential but it's hard for me to see Ross hiring him as full time coach. Ross wants to make a splash IMO and Bowles won't do that. You never know though, I'd be fine with sticking with him.
-
I'd prefer if he were a firey guy, but if it works, it works. -
Again, I like him and I thought we actually made some nice second half adjustments when he took over, which was one of the things I was looking for because Sparano never seemed to do it. He seems to really know what he's doing, but is Ross bold enough to stick with him? -
Fill me in on Javon? is this the dude everybody wants..Irish is still doing his thing huh..business as usual..padre31 likes this. -

I believe our secondary is better than they showed this season. Sean Smith had a down year but I think he'll turn it around. Vontae Davis is a stud but he also missed what, 5 games? That hurt the unit. The weak link is obviously free safety. That needs to be addressed this offseason. Will Allen was solid, and Jimmy Wilson is raw but has a ton of potential. Nolan Carroll I'm not impressed with at all.

It's all BS. All the fans care about is winning games. If we win games tickets will be sold. It's as simple as that. Just win. And I'm pretty sure Ross is smart enough to know that.smahtaz, MrClean and GridIronKing34 like this. -
Flynn is now the QB for our future  -
But in the grand scheme of things, all that matters is winning. Just win and everyone will be happy.GridIronKing34 likes this. -
I just can't put any stock into the late season run. We've been a hideous September team ever since Wanstache left. We always close competitively. Especially after the Saban debacle...I'll never trust a strong close again.

This is my offseason.
Hire Chip Kelly as HC. Give him some say in personnel decisions to fit his offense.
Sign Matt Flynn.
Draft Justin Blackmon in the first.
Fleener in the 2nd.
Rambo/Martin/Lester in the 3rd
Brandon Washington in the 4th
Sign Demetrius Bell at RT in Free Agency. If that fails, Levi Brown is still better than Colombo.
I think it might be better for the team though if we bring in Philbin at HC and try to get Chip Kelly at OC.
EDIT: I just thought about the TE situation. Fasano is only 27. If clay progresses, Fleener may be unnecessary.
Second Round
Kendall Wright if he's still there. He's 4.4 fast with soft hands.
If Tannehill drops, you pull the trigger. Packers had Rodgers and still drafter Flynn.
If we do take Fleener, I think we can look at drafting Hilton, the WR from FIU in the later rounds. There's also DJax who will be a FA. -

Levi Brown graded out as the 2nd worst pass blocking OT in the league last season. More sacks and pressures allowed than Colombo and more penalties committed. We can find a better upgrade than Levi Fcking Brown.likes this. -

And Bell is my top target.
EDIT: I think Brown would do better as a RT than LT which he played last year as well. -

Personally the thing about keeping Bowles is there is really no change. You have a different face to look at, but as far as mentality and everything, why not just keep Sparano around?? We need a new culture and mindset for this team, I'm not sure somebody hand selected from the coach that was just fired does that well. I'm not saying I want Fisher, would be terrible and a step in the wrong direction IMO. We need something though, somebody that is going to come in and buy into what the NFL is now. We can't have one of these ball control guys running our team anymore, thats not how you win championships in the NFL. Great offense and solid defense that gets turnovers is the recipe now. I feel we have the defense working pretty well minus a couple pieces, at the DE and S positions. We need to get that offensive system in here that is going to be able to score with the freaking Patriots, I personally believe we have to get those people from teams that have high power offenses. I dont care about the name, I dont care about the head coach experience, Work ethic and offensive football mind is what I really want.

Also, could you look up Erik Walden and Anthony Spencer for me please? Walden looked good in GB when I saw him this year. Also I wonder what Spencer looked like across from PFF's second best OLB this year. -

In 2009, at RT, he was only 6th worst overall and the 2nd worst pass blocker.
In 2008, at RT, he was 50th best overall, and 7th worst pass blocker.
In '08, '09 and '11, he did have positive overall run blocking grades though. -
MrClean Inglourious Basterd Club Member
Spencer among 3-4 OLBs, best run defender, 10th overall, and 10th at pass rushing.
Walden was rated the 28th out of 28 3-4 OLBs overall. 23rd pass rushing, and by far the worst grade as a run defender. His grade was over twice as bad as the 27th overall, and twice as bad as the 27th run defender.
Ware was 3rd overall btw, Aldon Smith was 2nd. Amazing grade for Smith, as he had about 400 less snaps than Wake or Ware. -
You lost me a Matt Moore.
-
I'd love to hear his thoughts on if he were hired, what would he have done to avoid the 2nd half collapse vs the Patriots from a talent or scheme perspective, this to me is where Sparano failed, he'd never come out and say, he'd just say something like "have to make more plays", Bowles has said "we did not do such and such, we have to do such and such" -
Here is an inescapable fact, if you look at how "franchise Qb's" were developed, you will find that early in their career, they had a Feature Back that drove the offense whle they learned the position, then grew into the position, literally.
For all of the talk that Chad Henne did not develop, consider that when Ricky Williams was going well in 09, Henne looked good, when Reggie Bush got going, gosh, Matt Moore became more effective, think of a strong running game/Ground Chuck offense as training wheels for a young Qb, you need it until it is time for the training wheels to come off.smahtaz likes this. -

As I've been saying for a while now, I really don't care that much about who the HC is. IMO it is far more important who the coordinators are. Fisher, Bowles, Sparano, any of them (and others) would be fine with me. I really only care about the HC in terms of what he brings with him on the coordinator front. I like what we had going with Daboll and Nolan. We had finally had a modern offense. You add the right QB to this team and none of the rest matters nearly as much. And I think there are several guys in the draft that could be that guy. I also think Flynn can be a Schaub level guy as long as we put him in the right system. Even Luck isn't out of the picture. You make that ridiculous offer and see if Indy bites. The fans will complain about the lack of change and spout trite sayings like, the definition of insanity, but they'll come around when the wins come. And the wins will come when we get that QB.
