I've always been a fan of Cutler, but I, like most Dolphins fans, love Pennington.

It's going to take too much to get him, and we're not going to give up what it takes to get him.

too many character issues for my taste.

Loved the guy on my fantasy team, but I don't think he's a Parcells type of player. Too many turnovers and too big of a diva. And the price will likely be higher than what the FO wants to pay.

Sentinel and Herald both said the same... I would trade Pennington and the 1st for him but not both QB's! He isn't a diva, the new coach came in trying to gage his trade value without even meeting the guy! I'd be pissed too!
Not Culpepper Rev, more like Drew Brees...The Aqua Crush, Larryfinfan and TheAnswer385 like this. -
If all we had was Pennington and John Beck I think it would make sense, but we got a QB with a pretty damn good arm being groomed for one more year and his name is Chad Henne. And this regime doesnt pull many punches so when they say Henne wouldve been the starter after camp if we didnt pick up Penny then I nbelieve they think they have something special in the strong armed QB from the team up north.
Im a huge Cutler fan but I think our future QB is just waiting in the wings for 2010.BrazForPhins and baboo72 like this. -
Ireland better start worrying because Cote's coming after his job. ;) His thinking is; "Cutler's disgrunted, I work for a Miami newspaper, so let me try to put two and two together and create some lame, controversial BS in order for people to read my dribble. ;)

I'd agree with this if the deal is right. He may be a diva or a crybaby or perhaps just plain immature and his agent seems to have him by the gonads, but he's an elite talent. Despite nearly the worst D in the league and no running game to speak of, he put up Marino-type numbers. Worst of all, he is being made out to be the Bronk-whipping boy out of all this but it appears more likely to me that the young HC is more of the culprit than Cutler and his agent...
I'd take him for Chad and Chad or for #25 and Penny, despite what Penny has done for this franchise and what Henne might do... I'm just not so sure that the Trio is inclined to go that direction.
I'm not saying that they won't 'turn the stone to see what's there' because that is their MO, but they've worked hard to build some continuity here and this would really be like starting over again.
Besides that, if I'm Detroit or (gasp !) the jests, I'm working on any way I can get this guy. Detroit has two #1 picks to work with thanks to Jerrah Jones...the jests are always desperate enough to mortgage their future, heck, even the aforementioned Jerrah could be interested and that would give him an in-road to getting Shanny there as coach... How about Cleveland...they have a young and coming QB there to spare, in fact two of them... How about Chester Taylor and Minny's first for Cutler ?? How about Seattle ?? How about Cutler for Young in Tenn and a pick here or there ?? Just about any team that doesn't have Ryan, Flacco, Warner, either Manning, or Brady as QB would be interested... -

Geez, how could I have forgotten about the Bucs ?? They can package a few picks and have all the cap room in the world...there are lots of options for Denver/Cutler if they choose to go that route. I don't think Miami is one of them but it certainly wouldn't shock me either...

I am absolutely, 100% for this! I think the best of Henne, but Cutler IS, while Henne MAY BE! Penny, of course, has a shelf life.
If we can get Jay Cutler w/out ripping apart the team, why wouldn't you do it? It'd be like getting Brett Favre heading into his fourth year!! -
I think the Jets have a better shot at Cutler than we do. Id rather give up a 1st rounder for Peppers than Cutler.

I love Chad, but I would take Cutler any day of the week. The kid is a legitimate franchise QB. Why people are mentioning Cullpeper or Feeley is beyond me. They don't have anything in common with him as a player.

I don't honestly think it will happen, I believe that out FO is content with the QB's we have and wont make a push for Cutler. Though I would LOVE to have Cutler here in a heartbeat.
-
I love Cutler, but we don't need him. We have Pennington now, and Henne later, who I like a lot. Why trade away picks and/or players?
-
im both "for" and "against" cutler... "For" because he is almost an elite QB, "against" because I dont want some DB coming in here thinking he is better than Marino (like cutler did with elway).
-
Unless something has changed their minds...
That's the plan as we can see it currently. Of course nothing is set in stone, but I just don't see any scenario by which the team brings in Cutler, not with the Chads here already. They have to be elated with Penny's performance and leadership and Henne is next in line unless they don't see the progress during the camps.
If I was Henne, I would be at the facility daily working out and studying my butt off, working with the coaching staff, Penny and the WRs. -
Cutler never did or said that. He said that he thought his arm was stronger than Elway's, which, incidentally, it is. I actually find it funny that a fanbase that still revels in the memory of Dan Marino is opposed to a guy like Jay Cutler because he's rather selfish and cocky and wants to be in the spotlight badly. It's like a guy marrying an obese woman and then claims to dig lean chicks. -
-
I wouldn't have thought I would say this a year ago, but this team has MUCH bigger needs at this point than QB.
-
Why would we give up so much?
-
-
What I meant is that teams like Detriot who have multiple 1st rounders and are desparate enough to entertain the idea will drive the price way higher than this team would be willing to pay even if they did want him. JMO. -
Miami is not desperate for a QB, but there are teams out there who are. They will give up whatever is necessary to get a franchise QB and Cutler fits that mold.
I hope he goes to Tampa Bay, Detroit or Minnesota and not to the Jets because I would hate to see him be a Dolphin killer twice a year. Last season he passed for 4,526 yards, 25 touchdowns and 18 interceptions with eight 300-yard games. Pretty gaudy numbers for a third-year player. -
Not gunna happen. Just dont see it happening.
-
When Cutler plays in 5 superbowls winning 2 of them back to back, only then will he be able to compare himself to Elway -
No.
-
i think he would instantly make Ginn better! But i don't see it happening. keep dreaming! lol
-
Jeeez if he lands in buffalo with T.O. our CB problem grows exponentially. Send him to Tampa.
-
No. I dont know whats so special about cutler anyways. I dont consider him an elite qb. i think hes slightly above average, but not even really a pro bowl level qb.
i say we stay the course. -
forgive me if this has already been talked about but i've heard a rumor of a 3 way trade for Cutler between Denver, Cleveland, and Washington.
The leak came roughly about 7 hours ago. Negotiations between Cutler’s agent, Pat Bowlen, Daniel Snyder, and the Cleveland Browns management have been ongoing for a few days and all sides seem to be happy.
The deal would see Jay Cutler, Tony Scheffler and Cleveland’s 3rd round pick going to Washington.
Jason Campbell and Chris Cooley Going to Cleveland and one of Denver’s 5th round picks.
Brady Quinn going from Cleveland to Denver and LaRon Landry from Washington will be going to Denver. And we thought that the Bailey-Portis trade was big. Our source says that teams will announce the deal at 5pm this evening. -
I am honestly happy with what we have at QB. Penny is good for now and I really like Henne for the long term. I like Cutler, good QB, but am more then happy with our current situation. Add to that how much it would take to get him in a trade and it is an easy no for me.
-
according to the rumor i just posted, all it would take is two people with the same talent/potential of Brady Quinn and Laron Landry.
How about Henne or Pennington and Yeremiah Bell? -
Wow. Greg must have gotten a hold of one of Ricky's old dirty pipes. Great, Greg. Neither of our lines gets any push or penetration, we can't run between the tackles, we can't protect the quarterback when it counts, our secondary is composed only of safeties, we don't have a #1 receiver, our linebacking corps needs upgrading, and we should mortgage our future for a disgruntled quarterback? Hello, Greg -- One player doesn't win Super Bowls. Teams win Super Bowls. Heck, we had Dan Freaking Marino. Let the Trifecta run football operations and make personnel decisions, Greg. You stick to being a journalist, writing about what others do.
