Regardless of whether Williams is a good coach or not, Coyle did a very good job this year and replacing him would be foolish. And plus, it's going to be very hard for Williams to gain the trust of players after what he pulled with throwing those guys under the bus.

 

After he threw the players under the bus or tried to anyway, Im pretty sure his coaching days are numbered at this level. I cant see anyone trusting that snake and as good as he is, I dont want him

 

IMO, we should try to keep our defensive staff as intact as possible. Considering the train wreck the corner back situation became toward the end, Coyle did a fantastic job.
In 2011, PFF rated our pass coverage 32nd. This season it was 13th. This with stiffs like Carroll, Wilson, McCann and Stanford getting a lot of snaps. After Marshall got hurt, it became Smith and a whole lot of nothing at corner. Yet somehow Coyle guided them to 13th in coverage. He's a keeper in my book.

i would really like to see this entire staff return and stay for some time (assuming they do well). this team needs stability, im really tired of getting new coordinators every season.

 

We disagree on him then. He has hands of stone. How many teams do you think he'd start on? IMO, other than us, maybe 1 or 2 at the most.

No, he doesn't have hands. But a stiff? Even the great PFF rates him positively this season. He's not a stiff.

 

A healthy trio of Smith, Patterson, and Carrol isn't bad. I wouldn't be opposed to entering the season with them.

I want to upgrade Clemons. I wouldn't mind Marshall at FS or releasing him to sign/draft a FS.

I don't think Coyle was the problem. The play of the secondary had much more to do with lack of talent and depth than the coaching, IMHO. Coyle worked wonders with what he had.

 

I thought Jones was playing free more and Clemons was playing strong.

Me too, and it was maybe misleading for Clemons to be referred as the FS. Not you, just in general.

Yet, PFF refers to Jones as SS and Clemons as the FS :)

 

I don't understand that usage of them either for that matter. Jones is definitely better at playing the ball, and in run support both are competent. Clemons is a lot faster when it comes to raw speed, but when reaction time is factored in, I'm not so sure his field speed is any better than Jones.

 

Coyle has said he has never had any luck against the Patriots offense.

We never win a division that way.

I am not for getting Williams, but you have to consider it.

I'd love to know how his defenses performed against the Pats.

 

If anything Jimmy isn't the stiff, I mean he's not starting caliber yet IMO but I liked a lot more of what I've seen from him than Carroll. Carroll always seem to flash at me in a negative light.

 

Kevin Coyle did a very good job this year and is going to make a name for himself as a top defensive coordinator I think. He's probably the guy who impressed me the most through the season. He fit what he was doing towards what he had, and made good adjustments both in-game and over the course of a season. He's very much a guy who has learned from his influences, and he's had some impressive influences.

Greg Williams is pretty much Mike Martz as a defensive coordinator. He's a bit of a cloaca, living off of past accomplishments, and is going to run the stuff he wants to run regardless if you have the players or not.

 

Of the Patriots five lowest scoring games, the Dolphins were the cause of two of them. Patriots average score against Miami was 25.5 points, with their average in the 14 games against non-Miami opponents being 36.1 points (notable teams include Baltimore, Seattle, Denver, San Fransisco, Houston). Small sample size and all, but not all that discouraging.

 

Also worth highlighting...the Patriots losses are the following:

ARI 20 @ NE 18
NE 30 @ BAL 31
NE 23 @ SEA 24
SF 41 @ NE 34

Generally speaking, those are all high scoring games. The Arizona game is kind of the mystery one...but in retrospect...what the hell were the Cardinals the first few weeks anyway? Beyond that, teams were scoring 24+ to beat NE. We just cant do that.

I think Coyle did pretty well against them...if we learn to put more points on the board our Defense has what it takes to stop Brady. At the same time, never discount his ****ing miracle drives at the end of a game.

Regardless, we did pretty well against the pats, even with that 28-0 ****show.

 

One could make a case too, that his arrival in Miami coinciding with elevated performances in our two safeties is no coincidence. Our two DB coaches should get some credit as well. Both are relative newcomers to the NFL.
