I live in oshkosh wisconsin. The river runs right next to the university, right out of lake winnebago. Lots of kids drinking and partying and stumbling between parties and bars and dorms around there. Temperatures were below freezing last night.

Body recovered from the river

Not looking good. But if it's him, sooner is better than never for a family.

The Winnebago County Dive/Rescue/Recovery Team has recovered the body of a man who fell through the ice Sunday morning behind Axletech in Oshkosh.

Winnebago County Sheriff's Capt. Todd Christie said the body of a 20- to 25-year old man was recovered in about 15 feet of water, 30 yards from shore, at about 3 p.m. Monday.

Christie said authorities have not yet made a positive identification of the body.

Christie said the body matches a description furnished by an Axletech employee who reported at 2:30 a.m. Sunday that he heard someone go through the ice on the river and call for help

Horrible for the family, regardless of whatever mistakes the guy did or didn't make in his own life.

As this is a dolphins site, I wonder if Philbin is going to be in any condition to consider a head coaching job anywhere should the worst be confirmed. I imagine all teams considering him will need to scratch him, unfortunately

I doubt he'd be looking to uproot the rest of his family assuming this is true.

I would tend to agree with the last few posts. I think you can probably cross Philbin off the list. Which means it appears that Miami is down to plan C (assuming Fisher and Philbin were A/B).

At this point, does it make more sense to keep Todd Bowles, Daboll, and Nolan together and simply add as many pieces as we can via free agency and the draft?

Deadspin has actually broken quite a few stories over the past couple of years. So yes, I would say they are a source.

They also basically put the pieces together since the timeline of when everyone saw the kid last, and reports of someone falling through the ice match up. It might have been a guess, but it appears to be an educated guess.

@jasonjwildeI'm told the #Packers players have indeed been informed that the body of offensive coordinator Joe Philbin's son, Michael, has been ID'ed.

All I know is this....

Coach Philbin may have lost a son. I cant even fathom....FATHOM...the pain he and his family are feeling at this time. I cant help but feel for him and his family, and football is so far remote as far as he is concerned. He may have lost his baby son.....no matter how old your kids get, they are always your babies.

Please....lets try and think of the family when commenting.

Just read it has been confirmed. What a sad time for the Philbin family.....

My thoughts and heart go out to them.....

Sucks for Coach Philbin. It's one thing when you're expecting someone to pass in the near future (for example if they have an disease/illness), but it's another when it's like this.

That is a mother and fathers child.....they have to bury their baby son. Its a HUGE loss.....

I would think perhaps in some small way Coach Dungy can provide some words and comfort to one of his coaching brethren!

Sad stuff. Can't count how many times I've walked home blind drunk and been thankful to somehow wake up in my own bed the next morning. This poor kid just didn't make it home.

Very sad story, however I am thankful that he was found to give the family some sort of closure.

Him and another scumbag forced the other one to perform oral sex in a basement against her will. They wanted to charge him with rape and false imprisonment, but the state attorney decided for minor charges, and he served 6 months in jail. There are advocacy sites that to this day, allege that he was "let off easy" because of who his father is, and that he got away with rape.

I would say that foul play should be suspected here.

the only reason I would hesitate saying it was foul play was a worker at a company right by the river said he heard him yelling for help, I can't imagine if someone was wanting to take him out they would make sure there was no chance of getting out of the water alive. Even so the water is freezing cold there is the chance he could have swam to shore.
