lol i know the order of operations but that - sign is messing me up
edit:nvm i was trying to the distribute 6 thats why the minus sign was messing me up. -
You mean the minus sign? :confused2:
-
yeah

the back of the book says the answer is 15-3y..i see how they get the 3y, but 6+1=7 and multiplying that by 3 is 21.....

3[6-(y+1)] -- first since its a -(y+1) that means there exists a -1 in front of the parenthesis so it is actually like so: 3[6-1(y+1)] so we distribute the -1 and get below:
= 3[6-y-1] -- now we have two terms that we can combine the 6 and the -1 .We then do the subtraction and get below:
=3[5-y] -- next just distribute the 3 to the brackets so we obtain: (3*5) - (3*y) and we get your answer below:
=15-3yKing Felix likes this. -
okay..yeah i got it, distributing the -1 made the sign change cuz -1x1=-1...i just had to do the same thing on the next problem and i got it right....thanks brah
