I don't think he has anything to "reclaim". If Thigpen plays well they should ride the hot hand.

 

Henne was playing just as good as Thigpen was. Plus, he's the future, so if he comes back healthy, he should start.

Nope...if Henne is healthy....he is the starter. I thought Sparano said as much by stating Thigpens status was dependent on Henne's health.

 

Well, he wasn't the future 96 hours ago when they benched him.

And yeah, he was good yesterday. His numbers were basically the same that he's put up all season. The same numbers that were deemed insufficient 96 hours ago.

But we'll see. I'd still like to see what Thigpen can do. If he stinks up the joint then no harm, no foul.

 

He can say whatever he likes. His actions speak louder to me. He benched this guy. He told the world that he wasn;t good enough to lead us to the playoffs.

Now maybe all of our eyes are wrong and Thigpen is just a terrible, horrible option. but he looked pretty good to me in limited time.

And, the numbers he put up this game where different this game than the numbers he's put up all season. He had a 95 QB rating, was on pace for over 300 yards and he was on a hot streak, completing 9 straight passes.

Personally, I have no idea what TT is going to bring to the table as a Fin but keep in mind that he was 1-10 as a starter for the Chefs...

but that was a horrible Chiefs team and he was a rookie out of Coastal Carolina. Under the circumstances, he played pretty well.

 

I have been a Henne supporter but I must admit that I dont think he is progressing as quickly as I would like to see him. I can't think of a single franchise QB that came back and played well for the same team after being benched (I am sure there are some but I just can't think of anyone). Right now I am not sure what Hennes future is with the Fins.

I am not taking anything away from what he did yesterday. From what I have seen of Thigpen he plays well in spurts then he makes a bone head play. Could be that he has matured... and he is past that. Could be that is who he is.

 

Just for the record, it was his 2nd year.

 

I am unaware of benchings (I only know Brees as well), but there have been a lot of "great" QBs who took more than their 2nd season to become franchise (or very good) QBs.

One could possibly say Kyle Orton was benched and overcame it (granted elsewhere), but I don't think he was ever labeled the future.

 

its not his job to lose, Henne was benched in favor of Pennington, not Thigpen.
after the performance Thiggy displayed on the field during the forth quarter, the start should be his by merit. He sparked the offense & passed for a touchdown
the hen is a well studied commodity. he has been measured by every means & come up wanting. its time to get a good look @ Tyler Beckham Thigpen.
the jury is in on the other two, maybe Pennington's arm will have healed by Thursday or maybe chicken leg will be mended. doesn't matter to me, the field choose Tyler Thigpen & the field is always an honest broker. maybe we should just exhale & give this one a rest. the game spoke volumes, nothing more to say.

Well, Steve Young went to a new team and then sat behind Montana for years, not really the same.

Elway was benched briefly as a rookie, but that was so long ago I don't know if it has any relevance (he was also the #1 pick who they traded the farm for so there was alot more invested). I'm not aware of when Troy Aikman was benched.

 

Phil Simms, Chad Pennington, Donovan McNabb

 

Henne can't afford to lose any of what little mobility he has to begin with. That's something I hope they consider when deciding when to bring him back. Unless Thigpen really lays an egg I see no reason to rush things. I'm just glad they don't have to put him on IR.

 

If Henne is okay in two/three weeks, and Jake isn't out for the year....

This season isn't over by a long shot. Thiggy can hold it down for a couple games.

Thanks a lot, Samphin. Whether you like Henne or not, whether you think he's the future or not, we're better off if he's able to play in a week or two rather than in 2011. So this is good news.

 

I'm just wondering...why is he the future? Everyone is anointing him the future. And I don't mean this in a sarcastic way Ashraf, just really for your honest to goodness opinion.

I ask because, just as much as Henne could be considered the future, why can't Tyler Thigpen. I would argue that even if you signed a guy like Donovan McNabb, wouldn't he be considered the future? QBs are playing well into their mid 30s these days (35,36,37). By the way, I know Donovan resigned, but I would in no way support that move...haha

I use that example because we've got this idea that we have to draft a guy, coach him up and have him for dozens of years...It doesn't have to be that way to win a championship. We can continue to build the other parts of our team well why we try and find a QB that fits our mold.

If we have the ability to draft a QB this year, would he not be considered the future then at that point? This whole idea that he should be given the reigns because he's "our future" is what gets team into trouble I believe. We had a guy in Chad Pennington, before he got hurt, that was a known commodity that could guarantee us smart play and better efficiency. It didn't work out, but that's why I supported the move.

It's not fair to the team to start a QB, because he's the future. That's how you lose teams. Had the Eagles kept Kolb in after Vick played well, Andy Reid would've lost that team. Had Jeff Fisher, given the job back to Vince Young, when Kerry Collins was playing so well, he'd have lost that team.

I still say this team is good enough to win against any team and be real force in the playoffs if they can make it there. They just need a QB that can lead them into the endzone and a coaching staff that stays out of their way at times. If Tyler Thigpen is the hot hand and Chad Henne isn't getting it done, it would be a TERRIBLE decision to give the job back to him.

Chad Henne was most certainly getting it done against Tennessee before he was hurt, so it will definitely give Tony a tougher decision.

I just don't agree with this line of thinking that he's the future, play him. Why does he deserve the moniker, he's the future? He wasn't playing well--opinions vary on that. But, it's clear the team/coaching staff felt the same way I did. They made the move. He came back with a fire, that's for sure.

 

That can change with experience. And what you wrote explains Henne's play to the T, doesn't it?
