I'm not going to link to any specific article since it's all guessing at this point, but several news outlets over the weekend announced they have "insider tips" that we're looking to trade up in the draft. Once scenario had us moving to #1 overall since Burrow has hinted he doesn't want to go to Cinci...the guess is that it will cost #5, #18 and a 2nd rounder next year since Cinci won't waste the #1 pick on a guy who could sit out. Another scenario says we'll move to #2 overall if Cinci takes Chase Young.
I also read a scenario where we move to #3 to grab Tua...so a lot of speculation is out there that we're talking to all the teams above us trying to make a move. It's likely all smoke and mirrors with the draft 8 weeks away...but that's the off-season.
Oh, one more tidbit- Ross made a comment this weekend that he wasn't sure about Tua as a prospect since he was seriously injured, but he'd really love to have Joe Burrow. Again, is it more smoke and mirrors? It's hard to say coming from Ross.
The largest consensus on the Dolphins mock draft (from MiamiDolphins.com) is that we take Tua at #5, a lineman in the teens and RB Swift or Dobbins in the 20's.

Tua at 5 is pretty much the dream, but it's hard to envision no movement among the top 4 spots at all. Surely there is a team willing to drop at least a second round pick to move up with the Lions or Giants ahead of us.
As fun as it is to do sims with Tua at 5 and loading up in the first and second rounds, it is probably not realistic, especially considering Grier has been open regarding the draft capital being an investment to sink into a QB.
Frankly, the question isn't if we will move, but rather how much we will spend to do so. The frustrating part will be that a trade is unlikely to happen until the actual draft day.KeyFin likes this. -
Edit- Okay, I took a look. Ian Rappaport leaked that the CT Scan on the hip "was as positive as possible". The fracture has healed and the range of motion is good. It also went on to say though that the results mean little this early on...but so far, so good for seeing a best case scenario in the long term outcome.Last edited: Feb 10, 2020 -
Btw, what would be the most beneficial pairings of FA QBs (or trades) that would benefit our draft position.
Would the Chargers be willing to move up if they get Brady on a two year deal? Would Rivers going to Indy remove them from a trade up scenario? If that happens, is there a major threat to trade ahead of us? Anyone know of a significant leap into the top 4 in the last few years offhand?resnor likes this. -

If I owned picks #2, 3 or 4 I would put out rumors that the Dolphins were investigating moving up.
The fact that the Dolphins have their big bundle of picks puts pressure on other teams to put together a bigger parcel of picks to move up to #2, 3 or 4 than a normal year. Add to that there are going to be at least 2 QBs taken in the top 5 (Burrows and Tua) and QBs demand a higher premium than non-QBs and it could be possible to panic a GM on a hot seat into a Mike Ditka like trade.resnor and Cashvillesent like this. -
Where would Burrow go in the 2021 draft if he held out for a year rather than go to Cincy? Second pick? Top five at worst? First pick if Lawrence stayed in school? Offering #5 and #18 for Burrow would be an offer the Bengals would need to jump at rather than be left with nothing to show for the first pick. -

1) If Miami loses to New England, then maybe Fitzpatrick doesn't return next season after all. He ended things on the highest possible note for his own career, the franchise and basically the entire NFL since everyone celebrated the Pats not having the bye + home field advantage.
2) If the Pats won and got that bye, the Titans play the Chiefs in round one...and I'm guessing that the Chiefs win that one (since they played two weeks later against Tenn and won). Who's to say the Pats wouldn't have got on a little run, knocked off the Chiefs and made another Super Bowl appearance? The MIAMI DOLPHINS, that's who folks!
3) Brady will likely re-sign, but Kraft wants Brady to go thru free agency first, flirt with other offers out there, then decide if returning is the right move. Kraft definitely has doubts here despite loving Tom like a son...that speaks volumes! If that answer is "no", then New England is 100% screwed next season regardless because they don't have a QB at all. I think there's a decent chance Brady just retires because I have a suspicion Belichek makes major moves for Bridgewater before Brees retires.
And why did all of this happen? Because the Dolphins won a few meaningless games folks! We haven't even talked about how much that locker room has been buzzing for the past few months, how free agents actually want to play in Miami now and how Fitzpatrick is darn near a cult hero for his part in Kansas City's championship. Those few meaningless wins may well have reshaped the entire AFC East thanks to setting up the scenario for Tannehill to spank Brady in a New England uniform one last time.
I'm sorry, but that single victory by Miami was worth so much more than a shot at Chase Young. And every front office in the league knows it as well!resnor, M1NDCRlME, Patster1969 and 6 others like this. -
The honest truth is once the final down is played, nothing really matters that happened this year except finding guys for the future.
Even if NE wins the Superbowl this year, Brady is still old, regressing, and may bot come back to NE regardless.
I dont think our win had any long term impact on the future. I'd personally rather have lost all our games we won by 1 point and played them tough. That would have been as or more impactful than winning.
That said, our record was our record and it cant change now. -
-
Regardless of whether they won or lost Brady is aging the same. So in the end like I said, I'm not sure it matters too much. Next season will play through on it's own merit.
Losing to the Titans was a bigger blow IMO. They still lost that game at home, so it's kind of hard to argue that losing home field hurt them too badly. If anything losing the week off was worse, but they were still at home. -
But what that franchise gained from the wins is so much more important- rookies and new players were lighting people up in that secondary. Fitz was playing like he was 20 years old. That team was so hyped up that they knocked off the defending SB champs in their house....where only 1 other AFC East team has won in the past decade. Those first seven losses had people like Minkah wanting to jump ship; the five wins stopped all that talk and made it where free agents actually changed their mind about Miami. I mean, if that bunch of nobodies could humiliate the Pats...imagine what they'd do with a little talent on the field. People took notice.
Honestly, 2019 may well end up our organization's most important season of the past two decades because it showed a shift in philosophies- the players actually believed in the system and bought in, playing well above their pay grades. If the Pats finally start to crumble as well (which they basically already have) then those five wins mean the world for this team and their projection. -
Trading up for Tua, if needed, is absolutely the right thing to do as long as he keeps progressing in regards to his injury. Coming away from this draft without one of the better QB prospects to come out of college over the last 10-15 years is just dumb and reckless.
Again, if Tua is medically cleared, you do anything you can to draft him.Phin McCool, texanphinatic and Surfs Up 99 like this. -
Most of these guys arent really in the future plans I'd assume. I dont really see how anything we did can impact the future. We've had playoff years where we fought hard and it didnt positively impact our future for instance and that is a much bigger deal in the NFL. -
It is hard to know what is the proper move without knowing his health. I am inclined to think that standing pat and taking him at 5 if he is there is the play. If he isn't then we get a damn good player and still have the remaining picks. I will pry get lynched for this suggestion, especially it being my first post, but I would kind of like to go after Winston if unable to land Tua at 5. We know his upside if he can get his head screwed on straight. Would have a very talented QB and preserve all of the equity we have built up.

He just seems destined to be one of those guys who tantalize but can't get past fatal flaws. I'd leave his W fingers elsewhere.
Rumors popping up this afternoon about the Lions thinking of trading Stafford BTW. The report seems based on social media posts from Staffords wife indicating if Detroit isn't happy with Matt she wouldn't mind going to LA. Lions GM Quinn says there are 100% no trade rumors, but it's an odd situation.
Also to reiterate, there is 0 indication of Quinn being anything but a below average to bad GM. I suspect if Tuas health remains good, we talk hard with Washington. Passing on Young would be tough, but they have a good DL and could be left in position to take Okudah or Simmons at 5, both huge needs. -
More that I trust Winston to fix it. What allows him to lead the league in TD's and yards(I think) is the incredible talent. It obviously isn't going to happen anyway, so you can rest easy. I just think a plan like that is worth the risk rather than trading valuable picks away to move a couple spots. He did get lasik done after all, maybe he can see now:)

I'd stay away from Winston. I said before he was drafted that he lacked the ability to be a top QB. It's not physical ability he lacks, it's the ability to manage himself, his team and a game. Hes never really had it and I doubt at this point he ever will.
His lack of concern for protecting the ball is what allows him to put up both his great and terrible numbers.texanphinatic likes this. -
Yeah i wouldn't even bother watching this year if Crab legs is our QB.

1) New England is scampering to figure out what to do if Brady doesn't return....plus they looked down-right pedestrian with two straight losses (to Miami quarterbacks, nonetheless).
2) Most of those guys might not be in our future, but the ones who return have 100% bought into Flores and this team. Week 17 was basically a Wildcard game for the Pats that they had to win, in New England...you may as well say the Dolphins had a playoff win this year despite having the worst roster in the league.
3) Because of that win, Burrow, Tua and others have hinted they'd like to play in Miami. Free agents are reaching out to us seeing if there's a fit as well...that hasn't happened in a very long time. Heck, Brady's wife mentioned that she'd like to move to Miami this off-season if Tom could play down there! That BETTER NOT happen but still...we're a desirable landing spot.
Everything that's happened with this team since around week 10 has been nothing but positive...and the league definitely takes notice. That doesn't mean we'll be competitive next year but at the same time, it's impossible to say that we're not on the right path as a young franchise. And that's all you can really ask for in this situation, to be trending the right way and making believers in this team. -
