Stuff works, and the Qb has a nice feel for it, and it makes defenders hesitate, and he busted a long run with it, and it opened up some other big plays out of the formation.
Would like to thank the staff for at least running it a few times..thought it should be in the gameplan..
I know a lot of folks are a bit hesitant because of watching the other qbs getting hit but the Question is, do you like the way the offensive people have developed Ryan, do you give credit because they didn't run him early in his development?
Is it a classic case of "we want more we want more, when we really like somethin we want more."... Or should we be happy with how it's being used?

Tannehill seems quite smart with it. I don't recall him getting hit much running the ball recently.
If he can continue just taking what's there and avoiding big hits then I would definitely keep it in the game plan

I think they ran it a handful of times, most notably the big run by tann, I thought down on the goal line tann should have kept it instead of giving it to Thomas but it's really tann's call.. I'm not big on tann keeping it much more than the one time a game like he did.. A wrinkle not a game plan.. When guys like tann keep it it upsets the balance of the defense, when guys like rg3 keep it it's expected... Play calling is getting better..

sherman ran it at the perfect times. if he can sprinkle it into the game plan maybe 3 or 4 times a game it can be productive.

I don't think there is a max or lower limit. Even after the big run they didn't cover Tannehill. I was disappointed he didn't keep it again.
Say what you want about RGIII but his issue is not sliding, I've never seen Ryan put himself in danger the way RGIII does.djphinfan likes this. -
I often see Tannehill out in the open where he could easily run for a first down yet he decides to throw.
This guy certainly should have more designed runs thrown into the playbook. -
I think quarterback running plays should be a little more frequent, but I think the option stuff needs to be something sprung from time to time with the hope that the team didn't really work on defending it and don't expect it.
They seemed a little more committed to it than that yesterday, it seemed like they went into it ready to beat defensive adjustments(scrape exchanges) with a fullback. -
I think Cam Newton is a great example of what we could do with Ryan. He's another guy who runs SMART and not reckless like RGIII or Vick.

We've had to go to some read-option because our traditional handoff run game has been bad this season. Implementing it is a necessity at this point or else we'll get very few yards at all on the ground. I think you also have a case where the Steelers have been gashed by the read-option (Oakland), so it's just something the weekly matchup dictated.
Moving forward into the next few seasons, if we can get a legit feature back and find consistency running it on first down, then the read-option will disappear from the playbook, imo. Or at least it should. -

I was screaming at the TV calling for at least a look at it on the goal line. But instead, we basically ran three identical plays with identical results. I looked at my wife and said "Three Dives, No Yards. Field goal!" Not even an attempt at a play action! EGAD!

It pretty much worked except for that freak Stanford Band Play. -
Like OhioFan said, i'm all for it if they keep it to a few (2-3) times a game. It's just one more thing for the defense to worry about, and the element of surprise seems to really help.

Outside of that...the use that sprinkled in was perfect. Wouldn't want too much more - but splash it in to keep them guessing. Glad we finally started using it thoughElNino likes this. -
If you go up by 10 the game is over. -
as i have said in the rant forum, "what's the point of having a qb with 4.5 speed if he doesnt use it every now and then?" a couple read option plays per game isnt going to kill him. hell, he gets roughed up more with all the sacks he takes. just gotta learn to slide and run out of bounds.

I don't think that TD run we had happens if the end/olb wasn't sitting outside waiting to see if RT keeps it. I thought there were maybe one or two times where RT should have kept it, but just the threat of it is useful.

Completely agree. Our QB has a certain skillset and we would be remiss if we didnt take advantage of his talents. Hes got wheels and smarts, two capabilities that go well together when running the read option. We dont need to turn it into a Wildcat, but its another tool in our toolbox.

I do believe he needs to see that clear lane to run much more often ten he does..when you have an arm and an elite speed threat on the field, your gonna get d-backs with their backs to the Los..if he gets more instinctive in this regard, he could be a much more lethal weapon.
How bout that whole half read crap, every time this dude moves the pocket, left or right, he makes something good happen. -
Man, y'all should see how that read option works for a Qb like nick floes, I think we can say Ryan is more athletic than foles..but sure enough, they run that sh@& all te time, and shady McCoy goes off..just check it out..it's awesome..

I definitely think we should use it more, especially in short yardage situations. If you run it 6-7 times, Tannehill may be keeping it only 2-3. It has been shown that not only can it be an effective play, it can be a very big play. And the risk level is low if the QB has good judgment about when he keeps it and how he runs when he does keep it. I think we should pass off the run more often too. That's not an easy thing to perfect, but it can be deadly (see the game tying TD by Auburn against Alabama).

Gives NE something they have to prepare for this week and that is a plus . Sure we will utilize that going forward , personally i would like it a bit more but not where it becomes predictable.
One of the comments yesterday during the broadcast was complimenting 17 on how he runs , can't recall it exactly but along the lines of him being fluid and natural . I would say that is very accurate , he doesn't look herky jerky or necessarily sudden but he can be very effective. -
