thats the difference between a pro and an amateur. A pro will tell you that its seperation that a receiver needs. An amateur will tell you its hands. Why? Because everyone can catch up to a point in the NFL but very few can get open consistently.

 

I wonder if the management team has thought about splitting Ronnie or Ricky in the slot to try to improve the reciving corps as a whole.

By making a conscious decision to make Greg C the #1 option..

From what i saw, that decision has been made and imo, was an excellent one..

He will now be targeted early and often, which will get the offense back into its rhythm, which will allow Ginn and bess to find their proper roles.....

Greg C is about to lift this offense, and the offense is about to find a rhythm that we have not seen this year...and when it does, he will of deserved some apologies for unjust criticism of his talents..

He's better then most think...before his injury last year, i was seeing some biletnikoff in him...i know his knee wont be 100 percent til next year... but watch what happens on sunday...

ginn needs to be on the field to open the passing game....with no deep threat everyone sits on the short routes....imo ginn needs to atleast be on the field to open the run game and short routes up again jmo

 

The main thing needed is the ability to make catches of anything thrown in their area. We need receivers who can make the clutch catches when needed. Our receivers inability to catch the ball when needed is making it tough for a young offense to find its identity and for Henne to develope into the quarterback he can be. Henne needs a go to receiver that he can count on and he hasn't found one yet. It would help some if we had a TE Henne could go to in a clutch situation and he doesnt even have that. But this is JMO.

 

The main thing we can do to fix the passing game is spend our first round pick on a legitimate number one receiver.

 

We had similar discussions about our CB play....it can all be solved in one offseason!

Have you ever known Omar to pass up an opportunity to rag on a player? It's just his attempt to ignore what Sparano said to once again beat up on Ginn. while ignoring the drops of Bess and Fasano. Targeting players is a sport to him, he's like the National Enquirer of Miami Dolphins reporting, flashy headlines that get everyone riled up, but very little in the way of content.

 

Maybe for a dozen fly patterns a game. Other than that he's pretty much useless as a WR and Henne would be better served by having Camarillo out there.

Defenses have long been stacking the box on us, with or with out Ted Ginn and his crossed arm catching technique.

 

Omar is just one of many reporters in so Florida to bag on Ginn...... hell even some old lady in the Food section of the PB Post the other day was saying how oven temperature was the key to making your biscuits come out Ted Ginn soft.

 

Ronnie and Ricky are good pass catchers, why we dont throw the ball their way more is anyone's guess.

Omar takes it to a whole different level, you haven't forgotten how he targeted Beck and skewed his reporting to fit his narrative, have you? You could read the PBP or other media and see that Beck had a pretty good day, only to read in Omar's "column" how Beck sucked, missed receivers and was going to be dropped for McCown. He guaranteed it and took great pleasure in skewering Beck at every opportunity, even when the kid did well.

To this day I'm convinced that Omar is a FH troll, nothing that I've seen so far convinces me otherwise.

i have been saying this for years scratching my head in wonderment why they arent targetted in the passing game and i have come up with the conclusion that they are also our best blockers while in passing situations.

a cure all to our recieving problems is picking up a #1 reciever wether it be through draft or free agency we will not get better with 2's n 3's being selected in the later rounds of the draft and the bottom of the fa pile. or as you stated...throwing to our best recievers bieng r&r.

 

I think once they find a way to have Fasano working the seams, everything else will open up.

 

Ginn was actually more effective with the weak armed Pennington at QB......those frozen ropes from Henne have done nothing but exposed him for the one trick pony he is.

Well Beck did actually suck so in hindsight I don't see the problem....I prefer today's approach much more than back when the reporters were afraid to say Jay Fiedler needed to be replaced and that Wanny was taking this team into the abyss.

Another thing is that those guys are forced to play to their audience......look at the comments below almost any article or blog. Most of them are about Ginn. Not defending Omar, he's a very mediocre talent......but he's just giving the readers what they want.

All those blog guys are nothing more than glorified posters with their own forum. Fan forums on the internet forced them to get "interactive", or get left n the dust.

 

Which may lead one to conclude that there is going to be an adjustment period. After spending months and years running plays and getting timing down with a weak armed QB, it's not surprising that Ginn and our other WR's may struggle at first.

You're missing the point, willfully or otherwise.

When Beck was doing well in practice, Omar skewed his reporting to give the appearance that Beck didn't do well. He has no journalistic integrity whatsoever and Im not afraid to point it out at every opportunity.

No they aren't, they are paid to report the truth, not to spin their own agenda. The people making comments at the bottom of his blog aren't of any consequence to the paper, they most likely aren't paying for the print addition and that's where the paper makes their money. If they are pandering to that crowd, they deserve to lose readers/subscribers.

Unfortunately that's true in alot of cases, but that doesn't mean that you toss your credibility and integrity out the window.

Think about it folks, Henne is in his 5th start for pete's sakes, do they expect Manning in yr 5 or Brady in yr 3? The plain fact is, our passing offense is crude because the players who operate it all have less than 5 yrs NFL experience to begin with, Fasano is the "grizzled vet" and only by a year over Ted Ginn.

Those bloggers lack perspective, unsurprising, their job is to generate controversy, Sparano and Henning are trying to develop players.

 

So why didnt we go after chambers and what about patrick turner? Speed, can catch, and size is what both these guys have ........could have also tried for boldin!!

Returning kicks and running fly patterns where he can catch the ball over the top is pretty much all he has in his tool box. I can see taking shots down field with him but other than that he just doesn't warrant many attempts his way.

I see your point, I just think it's an over reaction. For the simple reason that Beck couldn't even hold off Henne as a rookie in camp. Most of the reports out of camp weren't about how great Beck looked. In fact most were giving us the impression that we were screwed with him or McCown. The only QB that I remember getting much praise is Henne.

They're paid to get your attention and keep it, rules be damned ...............and the internet is a lot more important to them than what you described. These guys have been scrambling to catch up, putting a lot of extra time in trying to take advantage of this new platform. Mando throws his online numbers into every other blog. Hell the writers from rival papers use it to take shots at each other. They have to be loving this....people all over the world are reading them, not just the locals in their market.

I get the Post delivered and can buy the Herald or Sentinel out of a box, two minutes away. But now that these newspapers are online, I have a lot less use for the paper itself. And I've been a very avid newspaper reader for many years......

Again you dismiss the fact that he was misused during that time. It would be like asking a scat back to excel in a power running game or Pennington to excel in Arizona, if the player isn't in a position to succeed, how can he?

There are far too many routes that we don't send him on that is the problem, we're still playing short ball, we're not running plays that will generate YAC for any of our WR's. Instead of sending him on a quick slant, we're sending him to the sidelines, instead of moving him around and having him setup in the slot on occasion we're putting him out on the edge. For an offense that can be so creative (WC) we do a piss poor job of finding creative ways to get the ball into the hands of our WR's.

You're forgetting how reliable Ginn was last year, his hands were pretty damn consistent. Do you toss every player off to the side when they struggle?

This wasn't a conversation of Beck as a player, it was a conversation about a reporter not reporting what he saw on a particular day of training camp. When Beck did well, other papers and websites covered it, Omar continued to thump his chest and make predictions that didn't end up coming true. He was more concerned with pushing his agenda than reporting things fairly, that's the point. Even after Beck was gone he continued to put him down.

When it comes to newspapers, the money isn't in the internet unless they charge you to read, which the SS does not. The internet is cutting into the print news' profits, they aren't making significant money whenever you or I click on their link to read, otherwise they wouldn't be crying poor and trying to find ways to counter the internet. The newspaper media is crying for a stimulus from the government to avoid bankruptcy, I don't think that would be the case if they had a strong internet market/revenue.

I have no reason to knock Beck, he didn't pick himself and he's pretty much just a footnote. I just don't remember much more than a few decent reports ever on him and don't see how just one reporter could have a conspiracy against him. But then again Omar is a hack so if you want to bash on him, there's a good chance he deserves it anyway.

Right well I never said they were making any money......lol.........they just had no choice but to get involved. And they are involved, much more than ever. Those guys are on those blogs answering questions, getting involved in the discussions and putting out a lot more effort and providing more of a service than the paper has ever allowed. I'd say the focus they've put on the online sites shows the importance of it to them, whether it's profitable to them yet or not.

Someone pointed out in another thread that Bess has been catching the ball with his body lately - and has a few drops of his own this year. Same with Hartline. Maybe there is something to the idea that the WR coach needs to be replaced. He may not have taught these guys bad habits but he sure isn't recognizing and correcting them.

And the point was made earlier - if we had a true #1 go-to guy the rest of the guys would fall into place. Cam and Bess would be possession guys and Ginn could be the deep threat.

 

It could be as simple as "Get more talented players".

Easy.

Well, sort of, Colston for the Saints was a late round pick, so highly effective Wr can come from late round/UDFA's, however when your whole Wr Corps is more or less made up of overachiever types who can't run really well, chances are good there will not be many explosive plays.

Throw in a rookie Qb and people who expect a top tier passing attack should probably stop the histrionics now because it is not going to happen.

 

exactly. plus people need to accept the fact that we are not trying to become a Colts team down the road either. We are and will always be a run team first. Forget even trying to be balanced. The only reason we will try to get a balanced ratio is to get defenders out of the box so we can run it some more. We are a run team now, we will be a run team tomorrow.

Doesnt mean we cant add recceivers but anyone who has looked at Parcells and Irelands draft histories shouldnt be expecting the new Randy Moss to come our way. Hopefully we get lucky and one is available in the 3rd round after we've gourged on linebackers
