During his press briefing, Tony Sparano, treated ESPN's Chris Mortensen's allegation of the team changing QB's as absurd. If Henne continues to falter and is not replaced will it cost TS his job??
If Henne doesn't improve and Tony won't replace him will he be fired?

Wouldn't Henne have to be failing for us to think about this?
He is the 10th rated QB in the league and had one bad game.
And Morts report was absurd.Section126, unifiedtheory, baboo72 and 41 others like this. -
1st Henne would have to fail consistently. Since this hasn't happened the question is moot.

Tony needs to find this team an identity on offense and even on defense at times. Henne is getting too much of the blame today from everywhere.
We caved as a team last night in the second half.
Those are the things that need to be fixed and the wins have to come back for Sparano to feel safe with his job.Trowa, Miguel, Tin Indian and 3 others like this. -

In Mort's defense, Henne absolutely sucks at coaching Special Teams.

Isn't silly to say "keep on failing" after 1 bad game? you couldn't wait a couple weeks?

OP you are talking as if Henne has had many bad games back to back when he's only had one.
His QB ratting is 86.1 lol and you are talking about him as if he's the second coming of John Beck or something.RevRick likes this. -
Through his first 16 games he was 9-7, if that was all in one season, that's a playoff record. The Jets got to the AFC Championship game with that record. The Cardinals got to the Super Bowl with that record. The Patriots game was like the start of his 2nd season, and even he wasn't entirely at fault. The special teams gave up 21 points. The Dolphins cut the lead to 6 after Henne passed to Ricky, which came after the blocked punt and kick return TDs. He still fought back after those two horrible things that he had no part in. Then the Patriots march right down the field by running the ball and score on our defense, putting the Dolphins back into a double digit hole. It's very hard for a QB in his 17th game to keep overcoming that in one game.
The jury is still out, but we could know soon. His stats through his first 17 games are very similar to Drew Brees' stats through his first 17 games as a starter. One game won't change that yet. -

Even if the implication is "IF" things don't change, the kid is still playing at a much higher level than last year.
Last time I checked, the Patriots scored 13 offensive points while we scored 14.Trowa, MikeHoncho and Ophinerated like this. -

I stand by Sparano all the way. Henne has stuff to prove but shouldnt be thrown under the bus yet. He is a young qb.cobrajet likes this. -

Should CobraJet get banned from the forums for the next month should Henne lead the team to victory against Green Bay?Section126, Trowa and ToddsPhins like this. -
i think if he switched to Pennington he should lose his job...
i think we're still trying to win this year, switching to Pennington does not help that so that makes no sense -
This is the most ridiculous thread I've ever read..... and that's saying a lot..... b/c I've read a lot of your threads. :rimshot:
"failing Henne"??! WOW!! Then I guess we should NEVER draft another QB again if one of the best ones drafted over the past 6 seasons isn't good enough. I forgot, silly me, QB's don't take time to develop in the NFL. According to your outlandish comment, half of the top QB's would be in the Arena League right now, including Brees.
Let's look at ALLLLL the QB's drafted since 2005.
Chad is roughly on par with Top 5 picks Matt Ryan and Sanchez... and IMO better than Stafford, Flacco, Cutler, Vince Young, and Josh Freeman. The ONLY player who is head and shoulders above everyone since the 05 draft is Aaron Rodgers..... and he has 3 years of experience over Henne. And IMO the only player close to Aaron's caliber is Sam Bradford.
2005: Henne's better than 1st rounders Alex Smith & Jason Campbell........ Derek Anderson, Matt Cassel, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Charlie Frye, Andrew Walter, David Greene, Stefen LeFors, Dan Orlovsky, Adrien McPherson, James Killian. (the cream of 05 was Rodgers)
2006: Chad's better than 1st rounder Vince Young & Leinart...... 2nd rounders Kellen Clemens & Tavaris Jackson...... Charlie Whitehurst, Ingle Martin, Omar Jacobs, Reggie McNeal, Bruce Gradkowski, and DJ Shockley. (Cutler is the best of 06)
2007: He's better than 1st rounders Russell & Quinn..... 2nd rounders Kevin Kolb, Beck & Drew Stanton..... Trent Edwards, Isaiah Steinback, Jeff Rowe, Troy Smith, Jordan Palmer, and Thigpen.
2008: He's better than the rest of the 08 draft- Brohm, Booty, Dennis Dixon, Josh Johnson, Eric Ainge, Colt Brennan, Andre Woodson, Matt Flynn, and Alex Brink.
2009: Better than the remaining 09 draft- Pat White, Rhett Bomar, Stephen McGee, Tom Brandstater, Keith Null, and Curtis Painter.
2010: Should be better than anyone not named Bradford.
All totaled, that's a LOT of friggin QB's!!
You act like elite QBs grow on trees. Be happy that we found a good one. Either stop complaining or hope that we finish dead last in the NFL so we can use a #1 pick on a franchise QB who may never be better than Henne. Drew Brees's & Peyton Manning's don't come along every season you know...... heck his own family can't even duplicate him.
So please tell me, what hat are we guaranteed to pull this all-world QB out of? The chance of finding a better QB in the draft is slim...... and he will STILL take time to develop. -
Well, yr 3 of a 4 yr deal, if we fail this year, say go 6-10, is it not a possibility that Sparano is fired?
I think it is, if we win, say 10-6, then no way, this is a key season for the Sparanophins. -
Henne made mistakes.
The 2 first half INT's were bad especially the second one but it happens with a young QB.
Our problems ran deeper than Henne this week..... much deeper.
ST's weren't bad they were flat out atrocious. I've never seen such a melt down by a ST's squad.
There are no other options either.
You bench Henne and you trade off the negatives he brings to the table with his inexperience and WR stare downs for Penningtons limitations with his arm and throws defenses know he can and can't make effectively. Not to mention you SERIOUSLY delay the team's future development by bringing in Pennington.
Henne staying the starter makes sense on all levels unless he starts having a complete meltdown.
IMO, Sparano sitting Henning down and talking with him about playing to our strengths and stopping all the cute crap does much more for this team than siting Henne.MikeHoncho and ToddsPhins like this. -

This thread kind of sucks.
-
I don't think anyone is down on Henne for the results of one game. That would be foolish. But if you take the rose colored glasses off and look at the whole year you will see a different issue.
-He has been drastically under throwing receivers in every game
-He has no footwork and is unable to roll out, run a bootleg or flush the pocket
-His immobility is making our offense one dimensional putting LB's in pass coverage
-He is holding the ball waaaaaaaaaay too long
-He needs a full 6 seconds of pass protection, double that of other teams
When the thread spoke of "failures", I kinda think these were the issues, not the results of a special teams implosion of one game. I don't think the thread "sucks", but I do think that some of your responses to it certainly do.
It would be a pretty boring world if everyone had the same opinion, in fact it would defeat the purpose of the forum itself.Clark Kent and TheMageGandalf like this. -

Just like Ginn and countless others. The fanboys will go down with the ship.
I wonder if some of those Ginn fanboys still think he needs another year to develop. ("He's only in year 3! He needs more time people!")
<sigh>
Henne is average. NOTHING the kid shows me says other wise. He is like the Jay Fiedler of this era only non-mobile (which is bad) and less prone to the game destroying INT (which is good). Nothing against him, just what I see.
For the record I say NO, I dont think Sparano gets fired if he keeps Henne on as QB.
In fact I dont see anyone getting the axe no matter how bad we do this year unless Ross steps in like Wayne did after '95 and Parcells leaves completely.Clark Kent and cobrajet like this. -
