Normally, I'm pretty good with this stuff, figuring it out, etc. but recently I bought a panasonic home theater system to go along with my panasonic 42" plasma. I hooked everything up according to directions, ran the test, and all was fine. When i go to play the sound from the TV to the system, there is nothing. I bought both HDMI and Optical cables and still doesn't work. I spent hours on the phone to product support, somewhere in Pakistan, i suppose, and none of them figure it out. I'm sure it's something a simple as the nose on my face but i don't see it.
Anyone out there want to stab at it?? Thanks !!!

I've got no idea but with a 42'' flat screen and a home theater system that gathering of delaware dolphins fans might have to be at your place  just kidding.

Hmmm, I dunno - I never go directly from the TV to the stereo. I always split or use alternate outputs from the cable box, computer, DVD players, etc to go into the stereo inputs.
So your TV has audio outputs? What input are you looking at? If it's a cable box or something like that, you're better off using a digital coax or fiberoptic to send digital sound directly to the stereo.
EDIT: Not sure if this from the FAQ helps or not.

check the settings on the TV's menu and make sure the line out you are using is activated. Also you may need to unlock your optical input on the receiver which would likely be in its Input options / settings. Good luck with it.

Everything should go thru your receiver with HDMI to the TV for Picture only. I install for a living....so try that. You shouldn't need optical cables as you already have HDMI. Additionally you should also run your DVD and xbox, pS3, etc thru your receiver. You should be able to setup you display names using the Panasonic remote so that it becomes as simple as labeling Satellite/CATV as such and DVD, Game etc. It keeps everything simple and you don't have to worry about multiple inputs into the TV and then having to remember what to change to watch what. The TV stays on one input. The switching is done thru your receiver....all the audio and all the video.
Hope this helps -
2socks said pretty much everything. Typically TVs don't have audio outs, and everything should be run through the receiver. I am guessing you got an HTiB and not a dedicated AVR as that (an HTiB) was the first thing I bought. Essentially though you should be running all of your inputs (dvd, cd, satellite, cable, etc) through the receiver and then have that output to your hdmi 1 input on your TV.
If your receiver is unable to process audio and video from external inputs (which is completely possible), then it should at least be able to handle audio inputs. If that is the case you may need to utilize those optical cables as opposed to multiple HDMIs, however you would still use an HDMI cable from the receiver to your TV. If your receiver can at least has video passthrough, you'd still be good with the video via HDMI (still might need optical for sound though).
It would be a lot easier for me to help if I knew what model HTiB you have, as well as all the components in your home theater as I could be more specific, but I am pretty sure the problem is you TV doesn't do audio out. Typically TVs only do audio out for over the air channels (if at all). -

I'm not in the "gotta have it now" mood as the TV sprs are OK. It's just that it would be nice to listen to the programs that are broadcast in dolby to be heard thru the surround sound tho. -

Home theater system is a PANASONIC SC-PT670
hey, thanks for the help. Sooner or later, one of us will finally hit on something!! :knucks: -
I found the manuals in PDF files for your gear. 2socks was right, the best way is to run all your gears (DVD game sys etc) out puts to the receiver and use 1 HDMI out from the receiver to feed the TV HDMI 1.

Hit post by accident so adding more. if you have audio cables hooked to HDMI 1 audio in unplug them. Also check this in the HDMI settings of the receiver - "When using the HDMI connection, ensure that “AUDIO OUT” in the
HDMI menu is set to “ON”. ( 29)".
Hope this helps.DeDolfan likes this. -
