Free-agent signee guard Justin Smiley will switch from the right side where he played in San Francisco over to the left side next to Long. That should expedite Long's learning curve and serve as better protection against speedy edge rushers than would having two rookies and a second-year center (Samson Satele) side by side.

Smiley played LG for SF before they got Larry Allen. It's not anything to worry about as for him playing that side for us.
