    *It's an old quote..

“I told (the players what I believed”, Ross continued. “You know, why I bought the team. What my vision was for it and tell them how excited I am. Really my position as an owner is to support the team and do everything we can to produce a winner. And letting them know that there is a tradition here in Miami. It’s a great place to play. There’s a responsibility both to the team and to the fan base, and the impact on the community. As you know, it hasn’t really been encouraged in the past. So it was kind of a new beginning if you would.”

What do you think Ross was talking about in that last sentence? How bad was the mess that Parcells left him.

I dunno. But clearly some owners are primarily interested in winning and some are more about maximizing profit. It's no accident that a hanful of teams have won half of the Super Bowls. My hope is that Ross is more of a Rooney/Craft than an Arthur Brown or Dan Snyder.

This is the right answer. Fans sometimes drive but the Flynn fiasco bugged me. I'm glad we didn't pony up the cash for that guy. I mean come on. Holy hell it was a firestorm.
The fan base was impatient as hell. You have to be patient. Bad grades or D grades for Tannehill after three football games. I'm shocked.

I'm as guilty as the next fan of being impatient..(I'm also a Philly Sixer fan and it's taken years to get to where they are at). I think the answer is actually an easy one, and it's that we simply haven't drafted well over the last seven years no matter what coach has been here. Our drafts have been pretty awful. John Beck, Derek Hagan, Tedd Ginn, Matt Roth, Clyde Gates, Vontae Davis... These were players that were supposed to be go to guys. Never happened.

I believe him. He had former players from days of yor, handing out caps at the last game. Not to mention the more transparency with the fans etc.

I took the quote from Ross that Parcells and co didn't stress to the players how important it is to connect with the fans and community ?

Generally speaking, that's what I took from it. Parcells & Co. wanted players who focused on nothing but football. I guess that worked in 2008 with a more veteran-laden team (that and a SOFT schedule). They started going younger, in earnest, in 2009. I don't think that same approach works with the younger guys; at least not to the extent as you would have with a more veteran team. You never would have heard of Tony Sparano cancelling the latter half of a two-a-day to go plant trees at an elementary school, as Philbin did.

You've also heard interviews with players saying that this year they're not just sitting around at the facility between meetings for as long as they did under Sparano. There are more press conferences weekly for players, and coordinators. Rarely did you see as much of that under Parcells and Sparano.

In general, I think community relations/interviews/public service policies are more open under Philbin. It's not necessarily a good or bad thing, but given the state of the franchise, I think he and Ross felt more transparency and doing some good in the community for the fans was a must.
